/scaly/ - Scaly General #228
Post lewd reptiles and discuss scaly stuff, male or female is fine. Dragons, wyverns, reptile folk, snakes, and sharks on top of other scaly things are welcome. Ferals, anthros, and human/scaly are allowed, but please, no monstergirls. As some may take a few creative liberties on their creations, do inquire if there's a particular edge case you're unsure about.
Please avoid reposting images from the past 2-3 or so threads, try to keep things fresh and post other content.
We don't have any other form of chat setup outside these threads and there are no plans for a Discord server, don't ask.

Today's featured image is Slackwyrm enjoying his own body.
Topic of the thread: If you could have one dragon/scaly part on your body, what would it be?
>>9213219
>only one
>>9213285
Yes, just one. No more than that.
>>9213219
if i could have only one, then it'd have to be that big lizzer D
>>9213327
in that case i pick a dragon's circulatory system from whatever universe gives dragon blood mutagenic properties
>>9213219
I guess the fire breathing part. Stuff like horns are cool but you can't exactly go out in public normally any more.
Dragon D is sweet but if I ever become normie enough to fuck 3dpd there's going to be some odd questions.
But breathing fire safely is something I can keep to myself. Until I want to breath fire while shouting I am the LORD OF VOLCANOES, FUCKING COME AT ME, that is. You know, as you do.
I want a cuddly Mavers.

What's /scaly/'s general opinion on Argonians
>>9214788
Argonians are only good as broken-willed subservient slaves.

>>9215520
Now, I wouldn't mind it usually, but they've stated that all of their future female characters are going to have models that involve a dick or both a dick and vag.
This is just unnecessary modelling work that is going to flood the scene selection with this shitty fetish.
and of course it all starts with their dragoness, which I thought was a pretty good model as well.
I'm legitimately upset by it all.
>>9214807
>>9215476
this is tied with futa for worst fetish
>>9214788
Pretty good outta ten. They've got interesting lore and aren't just thrown in as an afterthought or fetish fuel.
That said, the internet has clearly shown they can be sexy when they want to be.
Tits are a little odd but considering they're also illusionist water reaching magic sap-transformed lizards who's souls are connected to a reality-hopping tree... Tits make sense by comparison. It's not like they evolved them.
Honestly the Elder Scrolls does an excellent job with their beastfolk races, not making them just reskinned humans. In lore terms anyway.
But then I'm a fa/tg/uy who likes his lizzers to have a mythology, history, known cultural centers and notable individuals to really get off.
Or just a really nice butt.

I feel like life would be easier as a semi-anthro but otherwise normally proportioned dragon with hands/claws on par with human hands in terms of functionality. You're already a dragon, it's not like there's a whole lot of room to grow in terms of being all majestic and shit.
>>9219867

>>9219804
Shit man, my father is going through a lot of construction grief as well. He didn't give enough attention to the house in Baltimore and scrappers got to it, it really must of taken a toll on him.
Kinda sad really, grew up there. I visited it the last time I was in the harbor and it was pretty hard to look at. People littered in the hole where the stone collapsed on the stairs to the front door and a cat lives in the basement hatch.
Is your place a new or older residence?
>>9219901
I'd say no, but there's this one zone transition they do where it just jumps 100 feet in the air and the shadow animation is that of a flying monster so maybe.
>>9219901
Can dragons swim ?
I dont think so.
Does anybody ever get legitimately sad that scalies don't exist, or that they aren't a scalie?

Pretty sure dragons can swim just fine. They're not aquatic, sure but fucking ELEPHANTS can swim. And they're just giant potatoes with tree trunk legs.
Reminds me of the Robin Hobb books where sea serpents are like larval dragons and we're called masters of the earth air and sea partially because of it.

Read the sentence. Swim (underwater)
>>9220145
They carry most of their momentum from diving down into the water. On their own they could not just land on the water surface and then use their bodies to dive down. Sure, they could swim for a bit, but not far and would be really energy inefficient.
>>9220024
Definitely. All the time, even vivid dream. Doesn't stop me from living a fairly productive life.
But still. Fuck.
I want a dragon to kidnap me and forcibly marry me as he breeds me daily, his cum slowly turning me into a smol qt fecund dragoness
>>9220358
so what? they can still swim, and faster than an unaugmented human too. Besides, you still have to weigh this ability against all of the other abilities that a normal dragon has, and the ability to use technology like >>9219891 describes trumps pretty much anything else.
>>9220358

yeah I can't stress how important using technology is. like, strap on a jet engine and a gau8 and i can't see any other dragon (that's not either literally the size of a mountain or hopped up on magical bullshit) beating me in a fight.
a tama won't win against this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk1HU5WShpU
>>9220411
I am not saying you`re wrong about the birds. My point is that, if you wanted both, flight and good aquatic ability as a dragon. You would need to sacrifice a lot of the dragon characteristic`s that make it a dragon(having fins or paddles on your legs, weaker and lighter bones, etc.). You can call me out for moving the goalposts, but I just refuse to belive, that your usual everyday dragon could swim underwater without any outside help.
>>9220554
pretty sure that title belongs to either people who throw an autistic tantrum about herms, or people who throw a similar autistic tantrum about some minor feature in whatever game /scaly/ happens to be talking about at the moment.
>>9219891
>Semi-anthro but otherwise normally proportioned dragon with hands/claws on par with human hands in terms of functionality.
The Shadowrun approach.
>>9220647
You really, really don't need to sacrifice shit.
The dragon holds it's wings against it's body...A d you're done. It's already streamlined, it has strengthened lungs to cope with air differences, it has a tail for propulsion like a lizard, snake... or a fucking Tama.
Soapdragons have the same body shape as a winged one, but with daft scale petals instead. They'd swim the exact same way. The water specialist will have an edge but that hardly invalidates the other's abilities.
What do the petal things even do? They look like they'd create about as much drag as wings would when helpless against the body anyway.
If you say a dragon can't swim unaided, I say a Tama should by no rights be able to either.
>>9220647
I think you're really overestimating the difficulty of swimming
Particularly for a sapient species that can intelligently try out various techniques instead of hoping instinct gives him the right set of movements.
And you really don't need any special features. Everything from snakes to lizards(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tBWakZAGqU) to humans can manage it. Hell, I've known dogs that would swim multiple feet down to get something if you threw it into the water, and they're probably one of the least suited animals for it biologically.
>>9220774
>helpless against the body
Held against the body
Whoops.
>>9220774
The petals are to attract mates like a peacock's tail. they likely fold against the head when swimming.
>>9220772
the idea is the maintain the basic abilities needed to function in current society. The best deal would be transforming between human and dragon at will, but that seems a little OP and would require magic, whereas everything else could done via biology.
for example, I'd want to be about the size where my stiletto from the front, when my neck is bent down, is about the size of a tall-er human (so about 6-6.5 feet)
and by semi-anthro, i mean anthro enough to be able to bend my arms to properly use my hands and everything, but not anthro to the point where i look cartoonish.
>>9220842
So, the dragon shaped monster with the large scaled appendages on it's back holds them close against it's body and can swim freely.
But the dragon shaped dragon with the large scaled appendages on it's back holds them close against it's body and can NOT swim freely.
Tamaposters.
>>9220838
I want to be held helplessly against a dragon's body
>>9220884

>>9220889

Now I think about it, it's a glaring omission from images I've seen.

>>9218955
>Power bottom dragon.
Fuck yes. Please tell me more of them exist.
>>9220804
That video is pretty cool.
I am not overestimating te difficulty of swimming. It`s the flying part that makes me question the capability of swimming underwater.
This whole discussion is quite pointless, because in the end it all depends on how you see dragons that are capable of flight. If I get to be a Tama, ill show you how you`re supouse to swim.
>>9221222
>A dragon will never force you to "rape" it.
>>9221040
I just want to read about a world where dragons choose to hoard humans, instead of fighting them.
>>9221405
>"That's it. Whether you fly or not, I'm going to drop you."
How would a dragon actually fare against modern weaponry?
Every time you see them doing it in media, they're always hopped up on either plot armor, an idiot plot, or some kind of magical bullshit power (including the ability to defy the inverse square law).
>>9221453
Would you share your heat with a lizard ?
>>9221492
Definitely. I get too hot sometimes.
>>9221492
If they're at risk of actuality getting hurt by the cold and/or are attractive then sure. Otherwise, it's no different than with a random stranger who dressed too lightly for the weather. This is all assuming they asked.
>>9220024
Yeah.
>>9221491
They would get absolutely BTFO. Guided munitions and rifling have made anything that relies on getting up close to its target obsolete.
>>9221491
What type of weaponry?
A-A and G-A are shrapnel so thats very bad for wings. Atleast the IR signature would be low for a dragon, but radar might be a problem.
AT weapons is a shell getting accelerated by an explosion from behind to penetrate through armor. Would hurt a lot.
>>9221491
GBU-12 and mav65 are probably not that dangerous, if you can see them comming.
>>9221491
Not that it means much, but in the current set of abilities for a dragon character in a project that may or may not happen, the idea was that anything short of a nuclear blast and/or radioactive fallout, they're invulnerable to most any ballistic weaponry. (Biologically for the purpose of living after dropping out of the sky and hitting the ground at terminal velocity). With that balanced out by
A: It's still extremely painful. (Paintball on skin levels of pain.)
B: It works by the scales solidifying to absorb the impact, thus making that part of the body stiffer and more difficult to move.
For wings, anything shot would pass right through, but a larger hole would make it impossible to fly, and take a longer time to heal over. A possible workaround is taping the holes up with duct tape temporarily for short stints.
>>9220024
Not really sad, more of a really strong desire if that makes any sense. Like, I'm not uncomfortable as a human or dissatisfied with my current life or anything, but sometimes i just want to fly around or lay on a rock in the sun or destroy a self-righteous dragon slayer's reputation in front of his entire adventuring party by defeating him by throwing apples at him while making fun of his feudalistic moral system, you know?
>>9221671
>>9221491
Even if the scales are invulnerable, the force from a missile, rocket, bullet, artillery shell, and so on still exists, some of which are enhanced by their explosive properties. You'd still get massive internal injuries and bleeding, like a knight in armor getting hit by a sledge hammer.
Not only that, but we develop projectiles meant to pierce underground bunkers beneath tons of dirt and concrete. I'm sure something could pierce their hide.
And if that fails, go for the eyes.
>>9221705
Oh you read that beowulf spinoff too? Always though it was too obscure.
>>9221734
Everything is made to pierce through armor these days. Its not about taking on the explosion, but about neutralizing the shell itself (see reactive armor and how it gets countered).
>>9221705
Someone should write a greentext about that lol. Dude can just be a peacefull dragon just chilling in his laid back lair and the slayer just barges in going all deus vult and shit.
>>9221734
With the flexibility necessary to survive drops, plus decreased weight for flying, Maybe a lot of knock back to the point that shooting at one might result in being thrown across a room instead of having that force absorbed by internal organs?
>>9221793
Or we can just thousands of 50. cal snipers, to shoot out his eyes!
>>9221822
>>9221822
Someone call /k/. Half of them are closted scalies anyways.
>>9221821
Ok then you shoot one hypothetically, with a tank or something. Tank shell hits in the chest and shatters, but its momentum keeps going and pushes the scales and with them the whole body. The internal organs, on top of being pushed by the now dented scales, are also bruised against the scales themselves as they are jerked out of position at increadibly high speed and smash into the very wall that protects them, causing internal damages. If anything, making the scales invulnerable just makes the organs have to deal with more damage.
Besides, invulnerable scales are just OC doughnut steel territory anyway.
>>9221671
That sounds really neat actually
Scales made of some kind of crystalline nano-material that changes its structure in response to impacts, and the stronger the hit the longer the solidification lasts
And while probably completely unrelated to your ideas, it makes me think of neat stuff
>dragons are actually an interstellar species that propagates by entering a state of suspended animation and drifting through space for aeons until eventually falling onto a planet, surviving the literally meteoric impact by virtue of their fancy scales, but the force of the impact locks them in place for centuries, eventually getting covered over by dirt and grasses
>eventually they can move again and burst free in a shower of earth and terrified sheep
>this is where the "that hill is actually a dragon" legends come from
Yeah it makes no sense at all, but I like settings do neat stuff with blending fantasy settings and science fiction style worldbuilding.
And am kinda drunk.
>>9221861

That's how I like my dragons. In terms of power, not in terms of personality.
Then again I'm a massive vorefag, so dragons having complete and utter control of their situation is an integral part of my fantasies.

>>9221954
I mean, if you asked some materials scientist to get crazy with theoretical shit they could probably imagine something for you, but you're right that there's nothing "likely" that could stop it.
>>9221978
But if everyone just captures their own dragon we'll just end up with a population of dragon saboteurs in our homes and towns!
I figure dragons are also smart enough to talk their way out of a proverbial box, so it'd be prudent to not have too many around.
I wonder if dragon anons would argue about invulnerable humans like this.
>>9222006
nah we don't have anything about us as invulnerable. They probably argue about how smart we are, like those Humanity Fuck Yeah stories that make every human stupid clever.
>>9221987
Basically.
>>9220376
>>9221545
Okay, I'm not insane. Great.
>>9221705
I don't know. I never imagine myself in any kind of different society or life. I've actually just pictured myself sitting at my desk, working, except I'm a dragon. Or sometimes my coworkers are kobolds or lizardfolk or what have you.
It's really strange.
>>9221895
For really large close ballistic impacts, fair enough. But for a equal amount of force throwing internal organs about just maneuvering normally flying about, plus being able to live after hitting the ground really fast, there would have to be some built in solution to internal organ damage resistance.
>>9222002
Fuck me each of those bullets on it's own is enough to turn anything organic into a fine pink mist.
>>9222036
>live after hitting the ground really fast
What part does this have to do anything with? Are you talking about when they might land on prey? Because birds do it all the time at high speeds, and they aren't invulnerable in any sense.
>>9222039
>just
>>9222006
Nah, they'd probably argue about how quickly a displaced group of humans, about 100 breeding pairs, could create and develop a society that would be a serious threat to dragons of varying ages.
They would then argue about how quickly this would occur if you took modern, Renaissance, classical, or prehistorical humans and the like.
>>9222031
>like those Humanity Fuck Yeah stories that make every human stupid clever.
It's less about making humans stupid clever, and more about ascribing some human quality as essentially human and pumping it up. Common qualities include, but are not limited to:
>binocular vision (including our capacity for throwing things REALLY well)
>strength
>endurance
>heavy worlders (ties into the previous two)
>stubbornness
>adaptivity
>jingoistic aggression
>cultural creativity (especially in relation to cuisine, interestingly enough)
>xenophilia
>xenophobia
>being just outright batshit crazy

Presumably as some evolutionary justification for the scales, but seeing as bird have been flying for centuries and they haven't developed "ways to survive falling out of the sky" other than not fucking falling in the first place.
>>9221491
They would be absolutely torn apart and BTFO (and I'm not saying that as some Humanity Fuck Yeah fan or anything. It's just reality, really).
>>9221671
Damn son, you can't just arbitrarily divide attacks into either dragon-hurting or not. An armor-piercing 7.62 round can pierce through some hefty stuff, and an AP .50 round can tear through horrifyingly thick steel plates.
It doesn't matter how hard their scales could solidify. Even if they turned into the hardest material we know (excepting neutronium), a shaped-charge RPG (or other EFP munition round) would absolutely assrape it.
Realism is pretty scary.
I mean, you'd have to weasel around with plot armor and magic to such a degree that it would turn cringy. Better to either leave high-tech weaponry out, or just-.. well, have dragons respect it as much as humans do.
>>9221793
Remember that reactive armor is also hellishly ablative (and ridiculously unfeasible in anything organic).
>>9221952
Well, can't fault you for having a preference. (Just keep in mind that stories/settings with Mary Sue dragons turn a lot of people away.)
>>9221987
You're probably thinking of EFPs, by which an explosive charge melts and shapes a "dish" of metal into a molten jet. This is absolutely ridiculously penetrative at point-blank.
>>9222039
Those shrapnel pieces probably average at around 120 m/s, anon. That's rifle-level speeds. Every one of those rounds is like a frag grenade.
Oof. I don't know whether to be awed or disgusted by modern weaponry...
>>9222117
Because sky battles over mates involving trying to incapacitate the other 1000+ feet in the air?
>>9222169
Birds are generally light enough that even if they fall, their terminal velocity isn't high enough to do significant damage unless they land on a wing or something. Like cats, basically.
If you're going to have a multi-ton flying lizard it would make more sense. At least, as much sense as a multi-ton flying lizard in the first place.
>>9222253
I can think of hundreds of animals that fight for mates and even a few of them that happen to be flying while they do it.
None of them have armor that defies modern ballistics.

>>9222419
>Its like arguing a 'who would win' with the US army versus the armies of middle earth or some crap.
The impoverished rice farmers win, of course
From an aesthetics point of view I don't like the idea that dragons would still be relevant against modern weapons.
If you consider dragons a representation of the ruling class, it makes sense that they'd become less tyrannical and able to rule over people as technology advances. Dragons would have to adapt to not being able to fire breath their problems away, and might struggle as they get closer to "mortals" and realize just how much pain they've caused over the years. It could be interesting.
Weirdly, I actually don't like domineering dragons. They're not nearly as appealing to me as friendly ones. Which, of course, means that I'm annoyed by about 60% of the people who have a dragon fursona, and am sort of ashamed that my primary fuckchat character is a dragon.

That said, friendly dragons are generally way more appealing.
>>9222003
Well yeah. Don't fuck the dragon, give it headpats and rub its belly and muzzle. Listen to it purr when you give it a treat for doing a trick properly or learning not to rawr loudly in the house.
Anyway, if the dragon's are sapient and intelligent and stuff... eh, I'm not really a fan of rape, including of dragons, and "captured" dragon doesn't exactly sound like she volunteered to be with whoever killed the most of her kind.

My favorite HFY Greentexts were always the realistic ones. Like humanity coming from Great Apes, so we have an unusual ability to work together as a group. Or about how Earth is really dangerous compared to lots of other alien planets, so species that grew up on EZ mode are in disbelief at how well we did.
There was a really good one about how Earth is viewed by aliens the same way we view Australia IRL.
>Not unrealistic for life to evolve there, because it's clearly habitable.
>Lots of beauty there too.
>Holy shit though, the insects. And poisonous animals. Everywhere.
>Plus the weather, the huge areas that nothing can survive in, and aggressive spiders the size of someone's head.
>Despite all that, do they live in fear? No! They're friendly shit talkers.
Humanity is the space equivalent of The Crocodile Hunter. You can't help but like a guy who wrestles alligators for fun.

Somewhere, there are dragons writing Greentexts about the hypothetical show "Mythbusters."
>>9223639
Perhaps dragons don't really invent a ton fo stuff because they don't need to, so they're a fairly limited species.
Humans have steel, iron, the internet, and all the other fun stuff because it helped us survive. Steel for armor and industry and swords and all that shit. What would dragons need armor for? Why would they need trains when they can fly? Why would they need spears to fight off the wolves at the edge of the camp when they have fire breath and roost in mountains?

AWSW: dragons exist on the other side of some ancient tech portal.
Dragons exist in all kinds of flavours, but are no larger than a horse.
Dragons have myths of humans like humans have of dragons.
Dragons are pretty traditionalist and don't develop tech very fast.
Dragons don't need clothes, either, but wear specific items of clothing for specific functions.
Dragons never expanded beyond their continent except for a few exploration vessels.
Dragons generally don't seem to have any transportation other than carts (which they usually pull themselves.)

By compleate accident. They were just trying to get their ships faster and tweaking the engine somehow causes it to malfunction with an explosion and sends the starcraft RIPPING THOROUGH AN ALTERNATE DIMENSION and instantly warped them from Earth to pluto in like 5 seconds.
Mind you they discovered a faster way to travel than even other alien species that have spent millenia in space.
