Seems to be one of the main sub-categories of TF.
There's the more sexual side, which has themes like unwillingness,shock,humiliation,sex,expansion of tits and ass, becoming a lactating fucktoy etc..things of that nature. Also somewhat negative themes included.
It almost seems like a rape fantasy in some way, I know it has these themes for me that I'm drawn to.
Then there's the next two which don't seem to have such a strong sexual element, which are the wish fulfillment side and identity wipe.
The wish fulfillment is basically people who want to become furries and who'd be more than happy about their tf.
The third not that sexual major category seems to be the mind wipe crowd, which wants to completely forget the original form and to become something else and forget their former lives, like livestock or feral creatures. Also includes people who see it as a power trip, when becoming a werewolf or a strong monstrous creature with little self control.

At least in my opinion it's split something along these lines when looking at the big picture.
But there's a clear line between the people wanting something sexual and even malicious out of tf and people who want a change of form to get something else out of it.
