She didn't act like a cunt, she's just very impulsive. She loved Mike but didn't know how to express it for said reason. She has never really opened up to anybody in the series, always kept her feelings to herself and thus made it really hard for her friends to read her. She has problems, it's obvious. That's why her mother sent her to a private school, away from her friends and especially Mike, hoping things would get better if she'd find herself in a new environment and socially start over completely.

That's non-canon, though. If you think her visit with Augustus should be part of the main story you'll have to wish for a lot of things to go differently.

After kind-of befriending Augustus he rejects her when he stops her from coming home with him which leaves her back at square 1 and that sets the stage for "December". If the home-visit comic is part of the story she'd just drift away from Mike and closer to Augustus.

Lucy "fighting" for Augustus is clearly something she's doing for his sake. Unlike just inserting herself besides him like they're friends (like when she tried to go home with him), she took real steps to help him in the way he needs most.

The Augustus flashback hit pretty hard on the idea that "a scholarship is the way to 'escape'" and that Augustus regrets that that only Melanie "escaped". Living away from Toby is exactly what he needs. Alejandro is just a thug; if Augustus goes away to college somewhere he'll be safe. He couldn't go after Melanie and when Augustus told him "the blue-eyed one" moved away he clearly had no idea what to do. What reason does Augustus have to turn against the way things are going for him?

Lucy also doesn't have to power to get rid of him; it was her parents who agreed to take him into their home ("until graduation"; just one year) out of gratitude for him saving Lucy's life. Why would they change their minds?

Augustus turning into an anime villain would be pretty damn goofy, but if it's never going to be good again maybe it can crash and burn in an funny way, at least.

Why did Taeshi decide to make Lucy's slapstick violence into real violence? It's confusing. There was a time in volume 1 where the forbidden Kizuna threw a fucking safe at someone. A god damn motherfucking safe. In school. Why would a safe be in a school, much less in the hands of a student for violence reasons? All of Lucy's violent actions were slapstick up until the arc where Tess ships the crew off to Mexico and they meet good ol Zachie.

However, this person is a hardcore fangirl of her own ships. She has cemented them for sometime and regardless what is written in the story - come hell or high water, contradiction or retcon they WILL happen.

So while this *seems* like character progress we ALL know it's gonna all be undone because Mike x Lucy HAS to happen. There will be some douchey way they will be "Oh bby Im so sorry I always wuved you" and "All is forgive, I wuv you too!"

Paulo x Lucy isn't happening because Paulo x Daisy is cemented.

Lucy x Augustus actually makes the most sense, but again Augustus can't get in the way of Mike x Lucy and must have unrequited love with Daisy. Daisy of course won't return any feelings or even acknowledge him. Unlike Abbey at least, he won't get strung along in a one sided relationship.


I actually really liked Daisy until how she treated Abbey, maybe I'm in the minority but I can't help but feel bad for a character that constantly gets shit on in the comic. That's why Abbey and Augustus are sympathetic even though they are "jerks".

Paulo doesn't get my sympathies because he is such a wishy-washy douchebag and treats his friends like shit generally. Mike is similarly a douche - but at least he has principals and stands by most of them.

Really don't care much for Lucy given her history as a Mary-sue, she's had a tiny bit of growth at least.

Reading people post about that is what got me to read the archive. Simply reversing that without it being a difficult rebuilding of an actually new relationship between them would be fucking awful.

Because it's not just a "what a twist!" thing, it's an accurate criticism of (serialized) stories that have both a tsundere love interest and a magnetic status quo where developments to plot or character are always quickly reversed (which allows them to easily last ages). It's one thing if a girl hates a guy and changes her mind, but what sort of person would currently be in love with another but constantly treat them like shit? A nutter, that's what, and Lucy is a nutter. Mike goes overboard but his general premise that Lucy is a shit is CORRECT. That's what made "December" interesting; that it wasn't just "male lead is being mean boo poor whitecat". Lucy brought her troubles on herself.
