Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've heard that Austin hated a large majority of the backer-made party members he had to put into LISA, (like the cat samurai and the guy obsessed with magic tricks), mainly because of how obnoxious the original pitches were and how they didn't fit in with the theme of the game. I seriously hope these horror stories are getting to future game developers who are thinking of using crowd funding for their projects, because fan-submitted content is almost always a case of "who has the most disposable income" rather than "who has the best ideas for the game".

Honestly, besides just getting rid of that stupid tier/reward entirely, the only way I can think to do it is as follows.

Have everyone who wants to try put in their suggestions; pre-screen them, choose the one that works the best (or none at all), and contact that person later on so they can pay up.

If you want to change the character idea sufficiently far from the otherwise best fit suggestion, and the backer doesn't feel like its their OC anymore, that's fine too; they just don't pay.

So Sorry defense in full force today. What a load of shit. You accuse people of skewing details and making things up when you are doing the same thing. Clearly you either didn't read Sam's Tumblr posts on the So Sorry incident or are trying to ignore it, because if you did, you would have known that all your points were proven wrong by Sam himself. Toby didn't name So Sorry, Sam did. He said it reminded him of a dad joke. He said Toby offered him a refund several times but he refused. Sam's name does appear in the credits. Toby had to make several Twitter and Tumblr posts telling people not to harass Sam despite telling Toby he could take the heat of the blacklash he would get if he made So Sorry the boss. Considering all the shit Sam made Toby go through, I think Toby did it in a professional manner, compared to other indie devs like dingaling that would ignore backers if they had a issue.
