From Krystal flying a ship at the end of Adventures to becoming a pilot pretty quickly in Assault, it definitely seems like Krystal comes from a planet that was somewhat technologically developed despite wearing such tribal clothes. As for doing better than the port, there's multiple reasons. First is the fact Star Fox had been declining for years. Even the Mario 64 port didn't do as well, though it did way better relatively speaking than the 64 port, so I certainly don't believe the only factor is ownership.

The last Star Fox game was a bust, Command was utter shit, people didn't like it, and it was on the handheld already. 64 on 3DS, was like a hit to the face, generally good reviews but abysmal sales since people just weren't interested in Star Fox as a whole at that point. Even with the loathing, it still did twice as well as Command mind you, but really, the series was suffering.

We are all a little fringe at this point honestly, regardless of what you enjoy, Star Fox has fallen out of interest in general. No, not just because of rail shooting, though that's definitely a factor, but because of meh after meh. Adventures was a clash of mixed feelings from the fans, rightly so, Rare fans were pissed it wrecked DP, Star Fox fans were pissed it was this weird reskin game, and everyone agrees it could have been handled better.

Assault was a step in the right direction, but it was meh tier, bogged down by series flaws in the ground missions from a mechanical standpoint, and the story it did its best to create was generic and lackluster.

Command was just bad.

Though i'd have to suggest combining their skills with Platinum, Sora, or one of Bamcos departments. Solatorobo while had a fuck ton of effort put into it, it suffers in being far too easy.

Actually quite the opposite, the game was generally well received till around Command, when people really started going back and scrutinizing where the series started going wrong. Jontron's vid blew it wide open, not saying it's a perfect critique mind you, some stuff is there just for the comedic value, but some points are spot on. The half assed Arwing sections, not giving Fox any weapons you'd expect him to have, and covering it up with a shitty hand waves reason, it's a legit reskin, the core game has nothing to do with Star Fox, and it just has Fox slapped onto it.

People realized that a long time ago, the hype for Adventures was big, people had been wanting Fox to dismount his Arwing forever, we just really expected, you know, a Star Fox game. I would be fine, and happy with a Star Fox game all on ground, no need to half ass in Arwing missions, but make it Star Fox, that's why it's mixed. People like to jump up and scream others just don't like change, and that's not true, people just didn't like that specific shitshow.

And yeah, Miyamoto was a driving factor in the series decline. Wanting Rare to change DP into Starfox Adventures, forcing the gay ass controls into Zero, some even believe what he did to Argonaut was unforgivable. At any rate, part of me is there with ya man. Star Fox 2 is fun as fuck, and again, I don't agree with how Nintendo just kinda shafted Argo, but at the end of the day part of me does see the logic. Ideally they should have let Argo just move SF2 onto the 64, which prolly woulda helped the future reboot woes.

Star Fox 2 added different gameplay ideas to the formula, whereas asides from the few that 64 stole from it like All-Range Mode, the latter game was pretty much a direct sequel gameplay-wise. Once again, that label doesn't mean anything lol. It sold 1/4th as many copies as 64, 1/2 as many as Adventures, it's further along the decline that started with Adventures.

I never said everyone hated Adventures, I said that's where the decline and mixed opinions began. Don't mistake me, from a mechanics standpoint the game is solid and fun enough, but the plot holes, crap story, and shoehorned in Star Fox reskins isn't what it could have been. It will always be a disappointment, even if the gameplay is fine. I mean it's 3d Zelda mechanics, can't hate that.

You're literally missing the entire point of how bullshit the three N64 games raised in terms of standards.. Except in this case, Star Fox 64 was what really caused it because it brought it upon itself, adding how the genre died a couple years after it launched.

Again, you're missing the point that I, and many others, were fine with and wanted a ground based Star Fox game, and if the genre was dwindling, remove the rails, make it a bigger, better open space game. Not a thing wrong with that.

The problem is that it isn't a Star Fox game, it's Dinosaur Planet, reworked to include Star Fox characters. You get nothing Star Fox wise but a few shitty Arwing segments that I would have been fine with not existing, you get a shoehorned in plot, you get a crappy excuse why you can't use a blaster, or anything you'd expect in such a game. We all know the real reason why you can't, because it was never a Star Fox game, because everything was already in place, and they just stapled shit on top of it.

I actually like quality in the games I play, and that isn't quality, that's a borderline fan conversion mod.

I welcome change, when it's good. Adventures was a good game, and a buttfucking horrid Star Fox game.
