I dont know, I always liked Blizard for their designs, theres alot of shit but theres alot of good too. I really want a singleplayer game set in the Warcraft universe, something that doesnt push away the lore and characters in place of grind and dailies, and doesnt have to put up with that fucking WoW engine, it is actively hindering what they can do with the game. Look at HotS models and animations compared to WoW models and animations, the game is restrictive and holding back creativity.

Not a single player WoW, or even an MMO, just something set in that world like an action game or something, something that is a bit more personal and they can do more creatively with the gameplay, story, characters and aesthetic of the game. MMOs are cancer. Theyre just time sinks, 99% of people dont even read quests or know the world lore they just want something to spend time on.
Id buy a game where I play through the events of Warcraft 3 as Arthas from a 3rd person perspective action game. Give it some actual combat and not MMO combat. The world has alot to work with but it stuck in an MMO.

Of course, literally everything that is entertainment or isnt progressing your career is a time sink, thats hyperbole, just because games are a time sink doesnt mean its ok for their sole purpose to be to keep you playing as long as possible without relying on its own merits, you can surely tell the difference between doing something because there is a possible reward, and doing something because you enjoy it. One is a carrot on a stick that keeps you doing something you may not actually enjoy because it dangles a reward infront of you, the other is about doing it because you actually like doing it and the reward is simply being able to indulge in it.

Overwatch is a pretty simple arena shooter if you can even call it that since its more moba than shooter. Are you underage or something? 14 has minimal grind. And yes WoW has been losing subs since late wrath early cata, so much so they've stopped reporting sub count after Warlords. It might not be dropping as fast as people are spouting but the gap from Cata to current is a pretty big loss.

Blizzard, or at least the folks working at Blizzard today, have a weird chasm in quality between two areas in their works: Story and mechanics.

Mechanically, their games are highly polished. StarCraft 2 and Overwatch exemplify this.
Gameplay-wise they're really good. Well balanced factions/characters despite big differences, and quite fun to jump into. The pace in both games is fast as fuck, and that may not be to everybody's taste, but good players can have one hell of a match of wits and tactics.

However, their stories have been cheesy as all fucking fuckery. That's the criticism you've heard about SC2 and Diablo3, I imagine.
Overwatch's setting plays on the cheesy-ness, though, with all their characters being cartoony and silly on purpose.
But the games that had more serious predecessors took a blow from it, as it just seemed like an inappropriate out-of-nowhere turn in tone, with the plots now being cartoonishly grandiose and characters having become very preachy about their (arguably rather childish) ideals.

The whole "dumbed down version"-thing has been a Blizzard tactic since WoW. It was part of the reason for WoW's original popularity. Along with the fact that WoW was an MMO set in a setting that was already famous from the previous RTS's, it received praise for being easy to get into and understand gameplay-wise.

Overwatch's setting is pretty much the only good thing about it. I didn't say just "easy." But it did get complimented for having all the well-known mechanics of most other MMOs while keeping it nicely un-complicated and easy TO GRASP.

Today's WoW, though, IS incredibly easy. Especially when compared to Vanilla.

I guess SC2 has been dumbed down in the sense that everything has a hard counter. Units have other units that are specifically strong or weak against it. SC1 was less firm about that, with many units being at least somewhat effective in most situations.

Flying fel constructs are not that far fetched.

Exodar was one of these fuckers, all of them are spaceships that still work, made by naaru.
Draenei were traveling from planet to planet using Oshu'gun, that white rock in middle of Nagrand, also a spaceship.

And Exodar is being repaired, it should take us to Argus this expansion.

And these ships still use a portal, the one in Tomb of Sargeras, they were not teleported from Argus directly like if it was Star Wars, but blinked trought the portal. Portal in the tomb is strong enough to allow this transport.

Golems aren't new to the genre. At all.

Draenei as we know them now are also a weird bunch.
When they were introduced in Burning Crusade, they did confuse some people. Until then, the only portrayal they had had was back in Frozen Throne where they were ghastly, haunting humanoids that didn't look ANYTHING like the playable ones in WoW.

It's nice that there's a different mechanic behind it, I guess. But when you actually see them in action, it still looks exactly like Star Wars or Star Trek.
But even when putting that aside, just look at the ships. They're literally space ships. They don't look like old ships that just get shoved through space by magic, or like flying fortresses.
They're dark, sophisticated, highly advanced-looking aircraft. As if taken straight out of a sci-fi setting.

Space ships are a new addition to WarCraft.
And an odd addition to a medieval setting.

Remember them back in WarCraft3?
Me neither.
I do remember guns, flying machines, and even shoddy tanks, though. But then again, those aren't things that can TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER PLANET.

Well Archimonde was the first draenei/eredar ever introduced if I am correct.
In FT they decided that Archi was part of Eredar race with introduction of Eredar warlocks and KJ, and then they decided that FT Draenei are just withered real Draenei who are exiled eredar. Confusing but not as much as Troll/Elfs evolution tree.

I agree that the teleportation looks like rip-off from SW/ST but at least there are still runes and summoning circles involved. And the ships are carved of stone and looking rough, powered by crystals and fel magic and generally looking like a piece of architecture we saw million times before. They are not made of plates filled with wires and engines, and those placed like towers above fel camps do not look out of place at all.

The Draenei ships we got in TBC look more scifi and out of place than these do at least in my opinion.
And honesty, the moment Draenei ships were introduced it was only a matter of time before legion ships were introduced. And if this happened sooner I fear blizz would go with the metal option like original Fel Reaver and other legion junk on outland.

And we are yet to learn how titans travelled from planet to planet. Sargeras is too big/powerfull to be teleported without an extremely powerful portal and most official artwork shows him just standing in cosmos with planets the size of melons or on planets where he is "normal" sized.

Yeah it woulda been fun to write but I can't get away from Li Li. The problem I'm having with Gadgetzan though is that the hearthstone expansion set up such a decent setting and I don't want to fuck up a potential baseline of fun lore by leaving it to narrow minded. But I can't bite off more than I can chew right now because m-muh time.
So I'm thinking keep it small and contained. Can always come back to it.
Writing green with an abundance of characters is tough because half of the grammar just ends up consisting of separating out who's doing what.

I honestly don't know which wow race I would want to fug.

Pandas are soft and the voices are hot as shit. But I'm not all that into the extra weight, I'm no chubby chaser. I'd probably still screw a few just for the experience of it.

Worgen are much closer to the body type I want but the faces are godawful and I've never been big into canines.

And cow women are cool and all but just not even remotely sexy/enticing. Not even slightly interested.

I'm definitely not into scales so Naga are out. Tol'vir are half stone which isn't sexy at all.

I'd go for a centaur chick in a heartbeat, but I can't decide what other 'furry' races would be enjoyable.

Blizz tried to make HOTS more accessible and appealing to newcomers by simplifying gameplay mechanics. Shared XP so that nobody would fall behind, universal talents unlocked by XP instead of items that had to be purchased with individual gold, etc.

Some people liked the changes it made, others felt they reduced the difficulty too much and placed too much emphasis on early picks causing an XP lead that would become a steamroll. All things said it was a decent enough game. Players new to MOBAs tend to enjoy it, but it's had difficulty luring players over from other MOBAs. Hence blizzard incentivizing people to try it out with overwatch skins or wow mounts, shit like that.

I never played too much LoL but I certainly found the way HOTS played to be much more accessible yeah. Like I said I never played too much of that but I got the impression you bought the same items all the time (depending on character and role anyway), so to me it makes sense to just get rid of that element.

It's like Blizzard themselves removing talents and making them normal abilities because everyone was picking them anyway.

I also liked how it had AI to play against. Maybe LoL has that now but not sure it did when I played it. If the Flamesaber skin was against players I wouldn't have bothered.

Having said that, making it "Play 15 matches" didn't help either. I played with two friends of mine and it was certainly more fun that way but if I'm not gonna decide to start playing HOTS after 5 or 10 matches I'm definitely not going to after 15.

As someone who doesnt have alot of time to play games I found way more enjoyment in HotS, though I dont play it anymore, I would describe it as casual, but not braindead. Therein lies the problem, people who would play these kinds of games would do so for a lot of time and want a high skill ceiling, HotS is just MOBA gameplay without the MLG aspect, its just fun, but as with most games with "fun" as a goal the playerbase dies quickly because the people who play games all the time will quickly exhaust what the game offers. Another game like this is Helldivers, sure its fun, but if you play it alot youll find that you reached the games peak a long time ago.

I really love the item system in LoL. I can understand some builds being "cookie cutter," but honestly I feel only ADCs have this problem right now.

They make building for situations much easier, and can even make some characters play completely different. like building AD lulu or just building Ezreal to be AP. There's just a lot of ways items shape up the game, and that's not even counting some of the activated ones.

I don't hate HoTS or anything either, I just prefer one game's system over the other. Though I do like the team level system, it makes playing support at least more fun.
