Normally I don't post stuff that could potentially become a shitstorm, but I've been sitting on this thought for a little while and I figured at the very least it's worth discussing even if I'm posting it out of the blue.

Slight disclaimer though as this is coming from a guy who's straight

In regards to people claiming that "gay people want to turn every character gay!":

I don't remember specifically where, but this one American went around interviewing Japanese people as to why it seems like a lot of anime has the protagonists drawn with English/Caucasian features, and the overwhelming majority of those interviewed were confused by the question, saying that in their opinion the protagonists looked Japanese to them. It's because when the characteristics of a fictional character are put into question, in the majority of cases the viewer self-inserts to a certain degree and views them as what they would perceive as "normal".

As such, I argue that when posters here want [insert character] to be gay, it's not due to some agenda or malicious intent (though I'm sure there's probably one person doing it as a form of shit-stirring), it's just that in their mind that's what's "normal" to them.

So, don't be mad at them for wanting representation.

My biggest interest lies in seeing how a character would interact in a relationship with another character. If I think the two have an interesting dynamic I want to experiment with it.

It just so happens that a lot of the more interesting characters (in my opinion) tend to be male. Not always, but it happens. I'm not speaking specifically for /ztg/ on this, but in general.

It's not a very impressive trope I'll admit, but to me it's all about how you execute it.

Not to say they're even a couple mind. I'm more talking about the trope attached.

I do agree that gay characters tend to be gay-centric. I try to avoid it in my writing but I'm not a master at the craft and it definitely slips through the cracks. Especially when it comes to one-offs.

And considering one-offs are something that's faster to produce, it doesn't make it look good.

Clancy in particular is guilty of this now, since I haven't been able to show anything else about him. At least we know what Percy's like as a person.

For me that's exactly what it is. It's like the ultimate form of submission, only it's unwilling in most cases. Like you said, it's a slow burn. I'm big on the whole "losing one's own identity" idea too, but that's a matter of preference. I also like it when the victim is trying to fight the hypnosis. Just makes it that much hotter when their minds finally give in.

Hard to say, really. I think the character's expression mixed with their position in the drawn situation can be on the levels on mindbreak, but at that point you might as well go with mindbreak. Most hypnosis porn I've seen is just; here's character with colored eyes, here's cheesy text, here's situation character would never be in otherwise.
