I swear, every single idiot who has played this game for more than five minutes immediately thinks they're the hottest shit at it, and know exactly how to play it. I don't know why it's turned out this way, but I can't help but think things were different back in the day.
I remember playing AvP2 online constantly as a kid and never, or just rarely, running into elitist-like players and trolls. It was much the same when WoW was new, people were mostly just goofing around for the fun of it.

I guess as things get more and more competitive, people are just bound to take things more and more seriously. Which ruins said people's ability to accept loss.

I think it's more along the lines of, accepting loss is an element that's not a part of our societies anymore.
Think all of those mothers who gave their kids awards for just participating in a competition, think all of those art students who get to call themselves "well developed artists", despite not even knowing the basics of anatomy.
People constantly getting achievements in games, despite them being totally meaningless and the general trend of dumbing down everything to casual levels.
Western society has turned into a place where losing has been taken out of the equation.
Everyone wins on some level and you're not supposed to say anything negative to anyone.

So we have short tempered people running around and either yelling at their teammates or quitting games, if the matches don't go exactly their way.
Seriously, fuck these guys. Having half of your teammates quit because the first point was lost in a minute is utter bullshit.

I think it's just that there are many more people playing video games right now than there used to be. When I started, it was a niche hobby for a bunch of nerds. Now every young man or boy plays video games, and many of those guys are idiots, overentitled, or both. And something like Overwatch especially is insanely mainstream. I mean, I've got a bro who refuses to play regular MP games and prefers vs. AI MP games because he just can't deal with his normie level of skill and getting BTFO'd in any proper game. And he thinks Overwatch is the best thing ever.

For example people asked Blizzard about introducing a system, where you get the legendary weapon eventually if you just keep trying hard enough for couple of weeks. So you'd get the best stuff eventually, regardless of the drop percentage.
Glad they didn't agree with it.
But this is a good example of the mentality people have.
Everyone HAS to be able to win just like the best of them, regardless of their skill.
It's pure hell trying to instruct beginner artists because of this way of thinking.
Most of them have thrown a tantrum, when they finally realize that no one can't cram the information into their head and they need to put in the years to improve.

It certainly does belong in the trash. It is a very casual, very mediocre game that has only done so well because of an aggressive marketing campaign. There is very little technical depth to gameplay which results in people rubbing abilities together until one side manages to push. This most often results in one team stacking ultimates together in a push that is impossible to counter without your own ults. This is not helped by blizzard inability to balance their game. All of the characters have no personality and shitty designs too. They're all flanderized stereotypes, half of which are ripped straight from other games. It launched without it's ranked game mode, and did launch with microtransactions in a fully priced retail game, and players are big enough cucks to actually defend this.
