Mentioned this the last thread about the dreams.

The dreams seem to be a side-effect of the Black Goat. Not-God makes a lot more sense the second time around when you know all the other stuff happening.

It mentions that something left the sand and went up into the sky to make a tear (and then go through) which also shows up as a painting in Greggs investigation. That Not-God explains that you've fallen through it and have dragged memories along with you. It says it's going to fix the tear at the end of that dream and then you stop having them.

The fact that other people don't seem to be hallucinating makes me think the gas was a plot red herring, and the cult talk about things similar to Mae (with the dead shapes) thing.

And the cultists do mention the first guy to find the Black Goat had the 'glimmer' and word was he could walk through walls. Eide also yells at the end of the meeting that they don't know what the Goat wants before the kids leave, so it seems reasonable Eide had the Glimmer too and had a much tigher relationship with the thing than the others.

After you meet Rabies, you can go to the bridge and sit there for a few seconds. Rabies will appear and you can talk to him. Maybe you need to do that too?

I'm pretty sure the "not wanting to change" aspect is exactly what the game is about. The guy who did the music and coding for the game mentioned in a talk that much of the game was inspired by the feeling of getting old and not wanting to make changes in life to account for that, and the way Mae goes back to her old home town and hopes for everything to be the same but gets a face full of feels when Gregg is moving to Bright Harbor, and Bea is a completely different person after her mom died just reinforces the fact that the true villain in the game is the resistance to change.
