There's no point in having kids besides "the experience" if passing on your genes is not a motivating factor. Also not all smart people have smart families, so they're just mishandled as children sometimes.

Beyond that, smart people might not prioritize financial security over some other sort of personal goal, so they don't have the time to allocate resources to raising children.
