i just got done drawing for 6 hours but i suddenly decided that right now i wanna come and give tips to whomever would like to hear them from a mediocre artist.

i just wanna say that if you're discouraged or feel like your art will never get anywhere, that isn't true!
above everything practice and repetition is key. keep going at it, and it's going to be frustrating getting over bumps in the road like hands and feet (i still can't get a grip on the goddamn things - pun intended), but in the end the work will pay off and it'll be really nice seeing how far you've come when you look back at where you started.

i left my structure lines on this drawing to show some of my process, since building figures based off of shapes and basic ideas helps flesh out something that looks three-dimensional.

TL;DR: i draw a lot, if anyone has questions they want to ask me, feel free to ask.

in return, here's one of my most recent pictures, this was done today. i spent around 3 hours on it, if i were to guess

to preface, i consider myself around a 6 or 7? my composition is okay, but there is a lot of room for improvement, especially if i'm taking into account artists i'd consider a 10.

with that said, in all honesty i'd say you're around a 4. you're clearly more experienced than people who have just started. you have a decent idea of shading according to a light source, and you also have grasped the concept of using non-black colors for outlines and shading.
your expressions and eyes guiding to a target are pretty good, as well.

as for things you can improve on, i would say flesh out the shapes more and connect ideas to one another. on the top right figure, the arm(?) looks like it's a detached floating blob, not really showing its connection to the subject.

in addition, your lineart looks like it has potential, i'd just say spend more time doing the lining process. there's no shame in pressing ctrl+z a lot, i do it constantly while drawing. cleaning up the lines is also a step i always take, so there aren't any bits hanging off where it wouldn't ordinarily make sense.

Oh wow, I don't generally browse /trash/, but I have to let you all know it really warms my heart to see a thread like this. Something so light and fun, promoting creativity, positivity, and, so contrary to /ic/, drawing for the *fun* of it.

Last December I decided to air 420 "episodes" of me drawing in ms paint. It was one-take-per-episode with no takes omitted. All I wanted to do, aside from share the massive amount of music I obsessively collect, was show people that drawing can be fun.

Seeing this thread is especially amusing since I wanted to advertise specifically on /trash/, but was advised against it since the traffic is so low. While it wasn't exactly the runaway success (viewership-wise) I dreamed it could be, it soberly reminded me that, just like ms paint drawings, even when stuff doesn't work out it can be quite endearing.

You still have to look up actual anatomical structure or find some pre-baked breakdown to improve it.

E.g. legs consist of 3 parts, front leg are attached to scapulas (shoulders) which are close to the neck, etc.
It's not a rocket science but my personal artistic skills are just to bad to make a graphic tutorial for this, sorry.
It will be very easy to remember if you look up cat skeleton and cat muscular structure, then draw a couple of cats using actual cat photos, comparing cat photo to cat skeleton/muscles, so you'll see where cat legs start and how they go.

It's based on 70's/80's teletext systems. I've never had actual experience with em (They didn't really catch on in the US), but I love the aesthetic. I was thinking that a simpler background would work better, with the black lines going along with the light source. Also giving the raccoon a little more space. Kind of like this.

That does look a lot better, I tried to get the light as close to that as I could in 64x64.

I really need to do more actual backgrounds, As fun as doing abstract patterns is, I don't put much thought into the lighting.
