No, it is an instrument, use it. But in moderation, at maximum intensity it is practically impossible to do jagged edges.

The theory goes that ‘news’ comes from the mammalian trait of telling stories. Zoologists theorize that the ability to tell stories was an evolutionary benefit to a species’ survival-- basically, the stereotypical big, strong, violent alphas that ruled the packs and herds of old were beaten out by storytellers.

As packs and herds grew to tribes and settlements, the chiefs and alphas would pass down stories, news, rules, and decrees through others: pack societies, such as wolves, would task betas to retell the stories of the alpha, and herd societies, such as zebras, had a societal emphasis on repetition throughout the group.

It wasn’t until mammals grouped in huge societies that the need for disseminating news became institutionalized. For instance, the Romawn Empire used to have ‘the daily actions of the world’ chiselled onto stone tablets in public places; scribes would copy this information and run to different areas of the kingdom to cry the information out to others (since widespread literacy is a relatively recent phenomenon, someone had to tell the news-- the louder the better, too). And such criers would even go to rabbit burrows under those kingdoms!

In fact, one of the first advice columns was started in the 17th century’s Athfelinenian Gazette, where a tiger requested advice about how to come clean to his wife about his infidelity. After that, the publication was flooded with anonymous letters requesting advice in similar subjects, from what to do about cheating spouses, how to court a mate, how to liven up a marriage, and even tips to keep affairs secret! The cat was out of the bag: people wanted to talk about this stuff, and now they had a way to do so!

Advice columns can cast a fascinating light on the cultures they come from. Let us compare two newspapers, both from the 18th century:
