Depends on how much disposal income you have and how much you want it. Depending on the artist, you can get full color commissions for around $40 bucks, but the sky is the limit when they become more popular and get more commissioners than they can handle

This was me with Gats over a year ago. I wanted to commission a follow up to his Ouya-tan stuff and then some but I had to be a fucking parton to even make that happen. On top of that, it was my first time using Patreon and backing anyone so I was unaware of the fact that it auto-billed you unless you back out yourself, I mistakenly assumed you would need to confirm payment before any charges were made, so for about 3/4 months I get billed 20 bucks which entitles me to two single character sketches and I missed my chance to send him anything. I contact him about it and asked if he would still be open to the sketches I technically paid for or a refund for those few months and he said no to both.

Needless to say, I never backed him again after that. I guess it's technically my fault for not paying enough attention but that really turned me off following him ever again.

How should I price comic commissions?
I've gotten one before, 9 pages and I asked 180 dollaridoos for it. I don't remember how exactly I determined the price back then, but I felt extremely underpaid when I drew it due to the time and effort I put into it (but well, you learn from mistakes). So now I got another comic commission (from the same person) and I don't know how much to ask. Is 80 dollars for a page too much? I mean, my price for a single cs character is 35 and cs background 25.
I don't want to jew anyone but I also want muh fair share shekels, damn it.

Personally I like to have the person pay everything with one payment (unless they want to do it in parts). So I send sketches for approval first, and then when I finish it I put a big ol watermark on it and reduce the size to be around 1000x1000 pixels at best, send it for final approval after which I'll send an invoice to the person and after payment I send them a clean image at a higher resolution.

Fug, this is a difficult question. When I just doodle my usual is stylized humans, animu or childrens book-esque stuff and design characters. But what I've enjoyed the most was probably furry, even though I don't consider myself one, because of all those interesting textures and patterns you can play around with. In my own case, I take commissions that won't go further than cheesecake as well because I don't trust myself enough with anatomy and composition to create good "arousing" pics like other artists that share my price range.

I'd rather ask for commissions of stuff I KNOW I can deliver in quality, instead of making my commissioner lose time or interest with me trying to figure out how boobs and vaginas work.

I decided to start taking commissions a while back. I was unsure about pricing, so I figured I'd let the market decide. I do one commission at a time, and I put the commission up for auction. I always go full color and shading to the best of my ability. My commissions usually go for 15 or 20 bucks, Once it got bid up to 30, which was nice.

Overall though, people seem hesitant to get in on it. I know a large part of it is my art is sub-par quality.

A lot of the complaints I saw at the time was artists taking on many commissions and not finishing them. I figured only doing one at a time was a good way to solve it.

I suppose it's fine, it gives me plenty of time to work on whatever I want.

oh I dunno if it's too late to answer this question but I range from $10 for a sketch to around $60 for a full image. I usually don't charge more unless it's something very complex someone is hoping for (e.g. a rather comprehensive background or more than two characters)
