They gave him a graceful exit, ie "I'm leaving for FOX to make another cartoon" (which never materialized), but its pretty clear that the missed deadlines, alienated staff members, friction with the Phineas and Ferb people, attempts to troll the censors with edgy shit like 12 year old kids getting their neck snapped, and an overall limp-dicked ending to the series, resulted in what was a much messier and hasty separation than some people want to admit. You just don't let go of someone who makes a hit cartoon like that.
