Well, I'd say that I have my own limits on what I find attractive, but I'm not making any promises. Everyone has different limits and I can't concern myself with trying to appeal to all of them. I can only draw what I find attractive. If that breaks some limits of too much fat for people, then it's okay. They don't have to like what I do.

I've had two friends turned down for illustration jobs because the employer found their furaffinity and InkBunny accounts - note that these friends are vanilla as fuck and only drew like, furry pin-up stuff, nothing super fetishy - and these jobs weren't something sensitive like drawing for children/children's books or something, I think it was just advertising illustration for one of them and the other was concept art work I believe.

I have more stories from friend-of-friend furry artists, but as I don't directly know the people involved I can't say whether their true or not, but it adds to the paranoia that if an employer found my FA I'd be turned down for jobs.

I used to think I started pretty late and almost didn't start at all because of that. I was intimidated by all those wonder kids who at age 14 draw like pros. Only years later did I find out that 14 isn't that bad of an age to start. And as my skill grew, I realized those that I used to idolise, they weren't really as good as I thought back then. If you indeed doodle like a child, you can fix that in a week or two. Download a book called "Drawing on the right side of the brain", don't read too deep into pseudoscience, but do all of the exercises. If you're starting from zero, your drawings will improve a lot.

Whenever I do requests on /trash/ most of the time it's awful MSPaint troll drawings.

Don't use lined paper

Clean up your drawings a bit. If you're having trouble with that, don't push too hard on the pencil until you feel like it's a final line. It's easier to draw over an erased soft line than get rid of a hard line.

Open your image files in mspaint prior uploading and rotate them to kill exif rotation angle

Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure to take your word for it. I'm planning on cleaning up my newer drawings anyways. The line paper doesn't really look good on it anyways.

As for the MSPaint crap, it's mostly joke drawings making fun of the users "strange request" like for example "draw stewie from family guy wearing nothing but daisy dukes" people laugh at the request and draw it in like five minutes using some primitive like MSPaint.

I'm planning on laminating my drawings in the future as well and redraw them using Paint Tool Sai or Photoshop.

Well, It's probably looked over because it's not as skilled as other drawings. I sometimes have a soft spot for crudely drawn stuff though. A drawing can have charm and appeal even if it lacks skill. Of course, you should keep drawing and improving though.

kind of, but I can never work up the will to draw anymore. Like I want to, but don't want to at the same time. So I get stuck in this cycle of "I'll do it later" and then feel like shit over not drawing. Pic related was the last thing I drew that I actually felt good about.

It's hard to say. I haven't touched paper to pencil in a while, really. So any example I could post would be... old. I kind of folded it up for a few years. Life just started sucking, and I wallowed in it. I'm sure the word "NEET" is familiar, here. I've had some training, though. I did two courses when I was younger, and practiced for a bit without any real goal. Better than some, worse than most, I'd guess.

I would say just figure in general. Your poses are awfully stiff.

Two great resources I use are Figure Drawing: Design and Invention by Michael Hampton, and Glenn Villpu's video series. Michael Hampton covers figure drawing really indepth, while Villpu's videos really drives home the importance of drawing from imagination, gesture and giving flow and energy to your work. It also has lots of good examples.

Villpu also has some basic articles online that give good pointers on gesture. I'd recommend both but if you're pressed for time Michael Hampton should set you right.

I wouldn't stress about perspective or placing characters in a scene until you're more comfortable with figure and gesture. Work at your own pace, just be sure that you're always moving forward and trying to push out of your comfort zone.

"Fun with pencil" explains the idea of construction but otherwise it's not a very helpful book
It can be a bit frustrating even, because it's literally "draw the rest of the fucking owl" the book (that's what construction is, but all the silly exercises in the book are done by a very experienced artist)

As far as I can tell Loomis has some good in-depth books on a lot of stuff including figure drawing, but he's not the only known author there (see >>6435412)
Personally I'm going through Michael Hamptons book, but I can't tell if it's better or worse than Loomis' book on figure drawing mentioned in >>6440843

Saying "Loomis" is an /ic/ meme, it's what people say when they can't or don't want to point out errors
