When I was a dumb teenager and first getting into the furry fandom, I made like 15 OCs, and then realized I had way too many and cut it down to just 2.

But I haven't really used either of them for anything in over 5 years, so...yeah.

I had like a furry character I want to be since childhood, even before I had internet access and knew about furfaggotry. I never had more than one at the same time, I moved from one to another instead, I guess it counts as a fursona.

I don't think I actually made any actually fleshed out OCs, mostly because I'm bad at art and it requires some kind of world building I can't be bothered to do without an outlet for all this crap

I'm curious what you mean by OC.

I've heard the term used for characters created to fit with a specified, typically popular, franchise... like that "enter '[your name] the hedgehog' into google" thing. Please don't post results, it can derail threads.

I've also heard of it being a character not tied to any sort of setting, but set loosely. Something like a Tulpa minus the delusions or a Fursona that isn't attached to one's own identity.

The reason I ask is because I'm a writer... a really bad, never to be published, doesn't even post his stuff on the internet anymore writer... but most of my stuff is tied to settings that I created and all of the characters are my own (if unoriginal). Are those OCs?

Do they have to be sexual?
What about having personalities?
Or made to be out of context?

I realize I'm overthinking things...

OC just means original characters for stories and world building stuff, right? Then I've made plenty of those for general crappy novel or comic ideas, each with either bare-boned trope personalities or slightly more developed depending on how much I like the idea.

I actually thought about that for a long time before just saying "There's no way I could make this joke work in reference to that fact".

I have a few issues, seems like I'm the only one obsessed with OCs. I've got tons and all of their stories come what seems like 'pre-written' and I'm now comfy in the idea I can tell many of them. But not a lot of people feel similar. I'm not a fan of fanart or anything non-canon, I'd really rather collab and work with people on their own original stories but it's hard to find, at least 'in my circle'.

Here's some designs from a recent story. It seems at every turn I'm told my stuff "is cartoony but not really cartoony enough, or furry but not, or anime-y but not really". Finding a niche is exhausting and making your own, well you find out just how few people really go your way.

Kinda? I like writing fanfiction and I enjoy writing new characters that interact with other characters I find interesting. I don't feel particularly attached to them enough to want to get art made of them. Thanks. Are you talking about the femboy Braixen? I guess. I just like to draw a pokemon anthros with clothes sometimes to make it look different. They're done for one off pictures but people ask for them to return in more pictures. So I guess people want them to be characters even though I had no plans for it. It's neat though.

I had a billion Sonic OCs in highschool. They started looking a lot less like Sonic OCs and closer to generic furries later down the line but they were all still intended to live on "mobius"

A lot of them were created just for porn. I had a friend who was super into incest and milfs so for every character I made they had to have at least a mother, and maybe some sisters and cousins.

I eventually got sickened by them and scrapped all of them, but ever since the porn flow slowed I kind of want to bring them back, in new forms.

Every time my /tg/ friends start a new campaign, I make up a character.
Sometimes I even make more than one for just the one campaign.

Technically I suppose the characters I made for games like Fallout and Skyrim also count, though only barely. There might've been some prophecy or something about a dragon, but Murder Dan wasn't having none of that shit.

I like the clothes because it makes them unique without having to change fur colors or get a cliche bandana or something. The proportions sure help too, and that just comes from your style I would gander.

Well people seem to like what you draw and what you do, no matter if it's a one-off you conjured real quick or a full character with an established backstory and personality. But I think fans who follow you will know the difference and place a greater value on the ones you put time and effort into even though the background ones still look nice. Just keep drawing what you wanna draw.
