The thing is that most predators that do swallow their prey whole usually kill them first anyways. Snakes either constrict or bite them first, so I'd imagine that a dragon would do the same, probably to chew up their bones a bit to digest them more easily. I think there's a bird who's entire diet is bones, so that's more plausible than straight up eating them whole and alive.

It depends on how fantastical your willing to go with it - obviously with being close to realism, you'll get something like killing prey before eating it, although they might eat it whole (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4rUY32M5F4 the komodo bites hard and waits for the kill, but doesn't chew past that). If you give the predator higher resistance to internal injury, though, it becomes feasible to eat live prey. And of course, if you drift really far away from realism like I've done, you get things like cockvore with cum digestion or casual oral vore where the prey can safely nap in the pred's stomach.

It's pretty simple. They're given a set of specs, like the product is X wide, Y long, Z tall, has A, B, C for features, and they're essentially told to make it all look cool. That's their only job. Sometimes the stuff they come up with is hilariously wrong, and then when I (or others) say, "no, um... that's not what we wanted," they sometimes say things like, "well can't you just change it?" No you can't fucking "change it" you retard, that's not how this process works.

Plus there's many cycles of this, the concept art eventually is passed over to designers who's only job is to take the suggestions in the art and actually make something out of it. This is why engineers sometimes just do the art themselves because dealing with actual artists is like trying to teach algebra to a dog.
