So, weird question while the thread's on the decline: How would a suit like this work in your personal headcanon? I'm actually interested in the science behind a suit that can change something's gender, just by putting it on.

I'd prefer it if it wasn't just, "lol, nanites," because, well, it strains credulity a bit to say that nanites can do that, but I'd accept it if there wasn't a better answer, because it is theoretically possible.

It would have to be a meta-material that utilizes some kind of static or attraction to the wearer's personal electromagnetic field to cling to skin/hair hard enough to hold tight to skin-level, but do so without restricting air flow, preventing the expansion/contraction caused by the suit's other functions, or damaging the wearer's body.

I'd think that the suit would be able to naturally take the testosterone naturally given off by men (and estrogen for women) and transform it into the opposite and send it back.

And due to the suit being essentially a second skin it can seamlessly send them into the body without any issue or complications (so no second puberty) and essentially replace the production of whatever pheromone you're giving off. And the longer you wear it the more you become like the opposite sex.

After a couple of weeks men's bodies would become more curved, their chests would grow much bigger, developing into full breasts, bigger hips/ass and softer facial features.

Women would gain more angular body structures, grow taller, more muscle mass and breasts would become pecks, deeper voice, etc.

If it's using programmable matter, it can probably construct things from energy and deconstruct things into energy. The only thing I'm not all that happy with is the fact that it takes so long. Since the nanomachines are being used to reconfigure everything downstairs anyway, and more are being made, it could just do everything, but it's a little too reliant on them at that point.

Then again, is that really a bad thing? It would kickstart the process by reversing your hormonal production over a day, suppressing one and stimulating the other, then after twenty-four hours it would start producing nanomachines that would, over a few hours/days, reconfigure your physical body.

If it's efficient/advanced enough, it could just use the majority of the day to figure out what you are, and detect when you went to sleep, trigger your brain to overproduce melatonin, to make sure you sleep for a full eight-ten hours, then take care of all of it, disconnecting everything except your motor control and autonomous nerves so you wouldn't wake up from it warping your body.
