I think most of tumblr wasn't around to really get to know him during the thick of it and those that do know him ignore him the way a vegetarian ignores the fact that they eat seafood.

I also think if his parents had made him get a job and keep a job early, a lot of his problems would be lessened. The money, most definitely. Social skills, maybe even a couple friends, if not acquaintances. Preoccupation of his time so he wouldn't obsess over the internet so much (his hobbies, sure, but not the internet.)

The Wendy's gig didn't really count, because it seems like he got it because it was convenient, they never followed up with him, and totally washed their hands of his employment after it.

Get with a counselor, find him an appropriate job given his condition, and let him do grunt work if nothing else, before slowly bumping him up. He's obviously capable of doing tasks, particularly stuff he doesn't see as work (the Pokemon gym leader stuff for example.)

The REAL issue is the fact that his parents were afraid of treating his autism. They believed that treatment meant electroshock therapy, heavy drugs, and mental institutes, even though medical practices were well past that by the time Chris Chan was a kid.

as far as i know the part where he was a child, went to this fursuit theatre and got picked to participate in the performance, that gave him a false sense of specialty, combined with his mental disorder and his inept parents.
