As someone who goes to several Brony Conventions a year, and has done since 2013. I can say the autism in the Brony fanbase is not what it was. If i goto BronyCon nearly everyone I meet is a reasonable person. The autistic attendees tend to keep to themselves or socialize with each other leaving the normal fags to there own thing. But if I see a Brony in the wild they are nearly always the stereotype. Bronys at non pony cons also tend to be more obnoxious about the fandom there part of. Most of the drama was caused by hipsters back in the old days of the fandom who joined and left quickly and as they moved onto new things it is mostly stable now.

However it's more a taste thing.
Some people will absolutely not touch anything without putting ponies into it, even if it adds absolutely nothing of value to the concept. It makes something that was otherwise fairly unique and different into just another piece of artwork with simplistically drawn quasi-ponies replacing the characters.

It's extremely bland and boring and demonstrates somewhat of a lack of imagination and genuine interest, if you're just going to turn everything into something more like that thing you already enjoy.

People don't really have an excuse to get annoyed over it, just like the whole 'this ruined my childhood line', it's kind of fucking retarded to get genuinely annoyed over it.

At the same time, it's cheap, lazy, unoriginal and borrows literally everything adding nothing of substance.
