Considering the phantom artist who "drew" penance "With some help from James Hardiman" has vanished into the ether since Jim's Death I can't help but suspect it was a way for Jim to get some money needed for medical expenses while denying he was drawing cub porn. The fact that almost all his other work of that period was bloody revenge porn supports this since Penance art was often bloody stuff too, something he had only occasionally drawn before.

It's almost as though he had a religious revelation that drawing porn was bad and so retired his main characters while doing bloody things to "bad people" who lusted after Penance. Who knows.

As has been mentioned already, she did come off as a bit too edgy and try-hard. But that's really just because Hardiman decided to push the whole cub-hate angle so hard. Presented in another way the character could have been really interesting, and I would have loved to see her in a regular kind of webcomic story. Especially if the quality of the art was consistently good.
