Hey, love hurts. That's the point of love meaning something.

Calvin is young, he's out of his element, and he's learning about himself. Heartbreak and bad relationships are part of life, and Calvin will be okay.

If everyone decided life was not worth living after their first crush didn't work out, there'd be no Zootopia.

I was rewatching some scenes today and the elephant in the ice cream joint said

Seeing how foxes are treated, I believe neon lights would be reserved for high street establishments, while shantytown would be illuminated by mushrooms, though it makes the city a bit grim.

I've been working under the assumption that anything a species doesn't eat IRL is okay as either a whole meal once in a while or as a small addition to a more appropriate meal in Zootopia. So you can have things like herbivores eating a bit of fish with their dinner, or a whole burga, as long as the rest of their diet is healthy.

So by these sorta rules, chocolate wouldn't be some nasty poison to a bunch of species, either.
>>
>>3712354
That's what I was thinking, but for some reason I feel it would be more like diabetic, lactose intolerant and high pressure than outright banning it.

>millenia of peace
>they're not humans in animal skin and are actually smarter in terms of eschewing the violence and getting along (just look at how the well the city is designed and run holy shit)
>firearms report is too loud for animal senses - human operators are not advised to use guns indoors without protection, for animals guns would be a double-edged sword (inb4 silencers, probably never got around developing solid projectile firearms in the first place, let alone perfect them)
>>
>>3712410

To be fair, if you had those around, someone would get the idea for a firearm
>>
>>
>>3712436
I think this is the best headcanon. Diets slowly became a bit more normalized as the species evolved together, but it's still far more healthy to eat one's natural diet.

A interesting take, but consider

>Millennia of peace might just be a lack of overt predation. What look like actual swords can be seen in a scene of the ZPD, which implies conflict at least up to the classical period

Just because some predators and some prey evolved past the hunter/hunted relationship at some point in time is no cause to think it was an instantaneous global phenomenon. In fact, such a mode of thought likely had to defend as well as conquer in order to establish itself, and that means violent conflict.

Even we humans, today living in one of the most peaceful periods of our history, still confront our differences with violence instead of reason, and that's exactly what the movie's on about.

>Once inside, she hauled the pop up several flights of fire exit stairs to the roof of the building. She beckoned to Nick below.
>"Sweetie go inside and grab the biggest jars from inside the cupboard."
>Nick, still in the elephant costume, did so and came back out lugging three large jars behind him.
>"Good sweetie, now position them right....there" She pointed to a spot on the sidewalk where water would drain when it rained.
>Nick complied. He still had no idea what was going on or how this was going to help them eat.
>Mrs. Wilde positioned the jumbo pop on the roof so that it was in direct sunlight, and so that when it melted, the juice would drain into the jars below.
>Half an hour later, Nick had three jars filled with blue juice. He dipped his finger in one, tasted it, and was disappointed to learn that it was blu-raspberry flavored.
>Mrs. Wilde descended the stairs.|

I haven't read anything about it, but I'm hardly an expert. I do know that when a beaver holds territory, it learns what the creatures in neighboring territory smell like, and then it reacts to intrusions from these neighbours much less aggressively than it would if a total stranger was doing it. And if the neighbor is a beaver that's related to it - and it can tell by it's scent - it's even more mellow about the intrusion, to the extent that neighboring holts can actually cooperate to build dams together. The largest beaver dams are hundreds of meters long!

This is a rough draft but, hell, I'm shilling it anyways because I wanted to do something imaging Nick without Finnick, Judy, his mom, or anyone else. I'd love opinions. Comments. Nit-picks. Pointing out errors. Anything.

So, what you're saying is that beavers are basically the bunnies of the water and they have huge family dam dens where they all live together?

Not quite, each beaver lodge holds one family - an adult male and female, and their children, though older children do assist in dam-building and looking after the younger children. However, multiple lodges can be built in the same bit of river, and thus would both benefit from a shared dam. Especially since offspring are likely to stay near their parents' lodge when they strike out on their own, and could end up cooperating with their parents to tame the same stretch of river.

This most often happens not in rivers at all, but in stretches of wetlands, where a large dam is required to build up the water level enough to create suitable ponds for beavers. You can see multiple lodges in this satellite pictures - they're the roundish 'islands' in the middle of the ponds.

They also apparently coexist and even cooperate with muskrats, sharing territory and sometimes even their home - muskrats have been seen living in beaver dens without being chased out by the beavers living inside. So a little bit of inter-species cohabitation might be built into beavers right at their core.

Interesting. I guess Lemmy can feel less self conscious.

I do wonder which route they're going with the non-mammal animals in Zootopia's setting. Ironclaw is OK with reptile stand-ins for most livestock, but that doesn't work if there's a reptile city out there. (Although if there were intelligent reptiles, you'd expect to see a few mixed into the crowd shots on occasion.)

To be honest it was inspired more than a little by the Redwall otters. I almost made him an archer before I remembered that Grath was a bit unique in that regard, and most otters used slings. And in the Redwall covers nobody ever wore pants, which always made me wonder a bit back when I read them.

There was only ever one beaver in Redwall since they're (mostly) extinct in Britain, so I went with what made sense for a woodworking semi-aquatic mammal.

>"Mom, I still don't understand how this is going to help us. Are we going to eat those?"

>Many hours later, the two foxes had produced dozens of popsicles in their freezer, and had packed them neatly into their cooler. They had even made a cute sign that read "Pawpsicles, Organic, Gluten Free, $2"
>"Were are we going to sell these mom?"
>Out by the Lemmings & Lemmings bank, if you can convince one lemming to buy something, the rest will follow suit."
>Another 20 bus ride later, and they were all set up buy the bank building, any second now their gullible customers would get off work.
>A line of lemmings started coming out the door.
>"Popsicles here, get your popsicles" shouted Mrs. Wilde
>The lemmings headed in their direction
>"This is it sweetie!" she said to her son, now devoid of his elephant costume.
>The lemmings began to buy popsicles, and they were sold out in a minute. They all discarded their popsicle sticks in the nearby recycling bins.
>"Nick, go open those bins and retrieve the sticks. That way we can reuse them."
>Nick did as he was told.
>"Nick! Look at all the money we made!" she said, holding a wad of cash that must have been at least $50.
>"We can eat dinner tonight after all!" said Nick, smiling wide

Muskrats actually help maintain the ecology of beaver ponds, clearing away unwanted plantlife to create open wetlands that many species thrive in, and building feeding platforms that a number of other species also enjoy and even build nests on. So you're right, they are the Mexicans: they do the jobs that beavers can't or won't, asking only a roof over their head in return, and get persecuted for it.

Well, my first criticism shows up in the opening line, where the pacing feels thrown by the punctuation.

>The loud chimes ringing out, building up more and more by the second, forced Nick Wilde to jerk his head upwards, hitting it against the dirty black jacket hanging loosely from the nearby lamp.
Could be:
>The loud chimes rang out, building in volume by the second and causing Nick Wilde to jerk awake, the dirty black jacket hanging from the nearby lamp catching across his face.

A few minor edits, but also the punctuation felt kind of jarring to read aloud. Once I shifted that, the rest of the changes followed grammatically or I tweaked some sentence structure/order and changes what would be best to imply.

>Nick felt rather bored, no surprise for him
I would also avoid dismissing details as unimportant, it makes it feel like parts of the world you're building are being dismissed, when all the parts should be engaging.
>Nick was bored, a sense of sameness to his days as they wore on

Then otherwise, the 'would have' motive to the paragraphs form 19 onward feels maybe a bit too passive of a motif to carry it, but the descriptors are also all so cute and melancholy that I dunno what I would do to change it, because it does give it a nice timbre.

I love emotion pieces like this, and amd also a huge AU fan, so this is great anon, and I'm super glad to have read it. I gotta know more about Renee!

Theory time.

Shep's been the one who's been most open about being a carnivore for awhile, which caused pretty much all of his friends to abandon him for his "perverse" attraction. When he married Dawn, most of the family basically ex-communicated him; their parents essentially forcing their other two kids to blackball him from their lives.

The dick wolf (who, for no reason, I'll call Richard) moved away and, realizing that wolves of a pack can sometimes howl together, decided that he wouldn't give a shit about what others thought of him. Tho, this attitude is very abrasive and he doesn't actually HAVE anyone that he can call sweetie.

Betty's been the slow adopter of realizing that she's more like her eldest brother than she realized. After seeing Shepard going through so much crap, she decided that giving off a strong alpha lone wolf persona would help keep her fully in denile. Her gal pals have actually helped her understand herself, but she feels she can't actually let anyone know who she is and what kind of mammal she actually likes. She secretly hates herself because despite feeling ashamed that she went along with her family in driving out Shephard, he always sends her cards on her birthday and holidays and seems happy with himself.

...Also, unless Weaver explicitly said that Shepard took his wife's surname, all three wolves are actually Bellwethers.

>UNLIMITED SNOUT WORKS
Good effort! However, despite your line quality being okay, you need to work on construction - start with the basic shapes (get a hold of fun with the pencil by Andrew Loomis). For line exercises, I recommend Peter Han tutorials on YouTube. Once you go through Loomis and start practicing those sweet lines, arcs and waves, move back to copying Zootopia images using solid foundation techniques and you'll see how your quality will significantly improve.
Keep going anon.

As for the rest of you, help out budding content creators when you see their attempts, it's not such a big deal to spare a few tips to help others improve.

Not bombs, but artillery. It's a common myth that German tank formations were common targets for Allied air power, but the reality was that close air support accounted for a very small percentage of armor kills during the war. Field guns, on the other hand, have always been the bane of armor, and the Ratte would have been so slow as to make artillerymen laugh about shooting stationary targets.

But then why is Zootopia (city) so amazing compared to the other cities (that have to predate Zootopia itself to build Zootopia's impossible climate system)
Is everything outside Zootopia a racist hellhole, possibly even with collars, and they waged enough wars to eventually start working together in peace to found a city where all animals would have to cast off their preconceived notions of other animals?
>>

It can already take a landmine or IED, so I imagine a wall would be cake.
