Stoats used to hunt bunnies by just chasing them until they got too tired to keep out of distance, then they just leaped aboard and went to work, since stoats have hugely more stamina than rabbits. I guess the same approach could work in modern times. Though I think sexy dancing, bottomless stamina, and that sexy belly fur would be enough of a draw that it wouldn't be necessary.

But I can look at it like that or I can look at the - let's see - 119 unique viewers to the story, and assume that maybe one in ten got a smile out of it, then hey I made a dozen people happy. If I tried to achieve that the normal way my hand would have cramped up around the sixth handjob.

That makes sense. The reason I enjoy using a messier brush like that is so that i can push and pull lines more fluidly since I find it a little hard to lay down clean lines accurately but hate inking. It makes it feel more like a paint brush even though I'm using it as my main sketching brush.

But like I said, I only recently started using that brush and I've just accepted it's going to be a little messier.

Practice. Your lines aren't going to be great the first time around, they never are. but you need to push through that. Long, quick, curved strokes and don't keep the movement at just your fingers, use your arm.
>>
>>2711952
Practice and using a stabilizer setting if the program you have has one. Also, draw larger than you need to, since shrinking it down will reduce the look of wobbly lines.
>>
>>2711952
You and me both. I might have lost the stylus for mine while moving too. I'll find out as soon as I unpack everything but I sure don't remember packing it.

I kind of resort to stopping my drawings at the "sketchy as fuck" stage, because any time I try to actually have some sort of lineart, I feel like I lose the whole energy of the sketch and have shitty-looking lines anyway.
>>
>>2711982
This anon speaks truth. Use your whole arm, not just your fingers or wrists. If your arm doesn't feel like hell after drawing you're doing it wrong.
>>
>>2711871

I use a Huion 610 because it's a lot cheaper than Wacom Tablets of similar size, but the drivers that run them can be wonky. Wacom Intuos draw is a good starting place if you want to go that way though.

For drawing programs my personal favorite is Clip Studio Paint because it's super customizable but it may be intimidating for people not used to picking up new software very easy. If you know how to use Photoshop at all though it shouldn't be too hard to pick up. Sai Painter is a favorite of a lot of artists but it's abandonware and a bit more expensive than Clip Studio Paint. There's also Photoshop but despite being the standard for high end artists I don't know if I would really recommend it since it's not really meant for drawing even if it's used that way. There are so many little quality of life things that make other programs more appealing in my opinion. If money isn't a factor or you're going to pirate one anyway I'd suggest Clip Studio Paint.

If you're just learning to draw, don't start with a tablet. It's like drawing on glass. Shit's way harder.

Most people you see doing digital work turn on tons of stabilizer-y shit to compensate. I'd recommend against that, as it doesn't force you to improve your motor skills, but keep in mind it IS harder than paper, Ctrl+Z be damned.

I don't think it's that bad of an idea to start with a tablet. The biggest hurdle in learning to draw is gaining the motivation to draw every day even when you don't really feel like it. And the skills using a tablet transfer to pen and pencil.

As for stabilization, turning on even high stabilization isn't going to make your lines look less shitty when you draw them. The only real reason that stabilization exists is because tablets are so 1 to 1 in their transfer of information to the computer you end up getting jitter that wouldn't be noticeable on paper using a pen.

The only time stabilization would make a real difference is in inking if you use that technique where you take long but slow strokes over your lines. For the purpose of just normal drawing maxed stabilizer is just going to annoy you when you're trying to draw.

Paper has resistance though. It has an actual feedback loop. Tablet does not. It's like saying you can learn to rollerblade after learning to ice skate. You can, but why.

I value motor control over any advantages the tablet brings me. Learning to draw was hard enough, I can't imagine my babbyart self overcoming the slip and slide of the tablet's surface as well. It'd just be another obstacle I'd try to fill in with technological 'solutions'.

In short, it's more finnicky and more powerful than a stick of charcoal and a slab of regurgitated tree, and I'd argue you should wring as much skill out of the simpler medium before moving on to the persnickity one.
>>
>>2712290
I thought it would be cool, but it wears off really quickly. Games in 3D were better, but you forget that it's even on after about half an hour. It could just be me, though.
>>
>>2712222
I can't stand 3D. Always kinda ruins the colors, to me, and I've never seen a single film where the 3D brought anything to the story.
>>
>>2712297
I understand what you're getting at but the important thing is to find motivation in drawing. Being part of a community like contributing in a general makes it a lot easier to get in the habit of making art. There are advantages and disadvantages of drawing in both mediums but I don't think the difference is big enough to overcome the hard part which is the motivation to draw in the first place.

Also Wacom tablets are textured so that they do give a little bit of resistance while drawing. I know it's not the same and learning to draw while looking at a screen is difficult but it's not like learning to draw on a tablet isn't going to give you transferable skills when drawing in a sketchbook. I do both regularly.

I like the depth, but I hate how it comes at the cost of only being able to focus properly on one part of the scene. Looking away from the focal point seems to cause everything to get out of whack.

Feeling like I could reach out and touch the bun isn't worth losing my ability to explore with my eyes.

Can't sleep, so decided to dink around on my tablet even though I shouldn't with a sharp nib. I've had a Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch for 6 or 7 years and it still works just as well as the day I got it, but I'm looking to upgrade to a Cintiq when I get the funds.

>>2712334
This is why I love Wacom over most other tablets, some have the same texture but most are far too smooth and the pen slips around too much for me to feel really comfortable with.

As for digital compared to traditional, I think it's important for any artist in this day and age to be familiar with both. You can have a preference but not at least being capable of both is a huge minus that you're gonna have compared to all the other artists online. Learn initially through traditional art and once you have a basic grasp on the fundamentals and know that you want to pursue more in art invest in a good quality tablet, don't skimp on it, you're gonna use it a lot! The initial disconnect (at least for the non-screen tablets since I can't really speak for the screen ones) is jarring. It takes quite some time to get used to not watching your hand but it does get better, especially if you do mechanical practice. What I've found is that when working in one form for a long stretch of time, I can switch to the other form and have learned a lot for both. The biggest problem I have with digital is that (for whatever reason) I build bad habbits a lot easier in digital, so I have to constantly be aware of any and try to actively fix them.

I don't know really, I used a wacom bamboo from 4 or so years ago when I was first really getting into drawing regularly and it had some texture. I used it so much that by the time I bought a new one the texture was completely rubbed off. The huion tablet I use now doesn't have any texture but I never found the texture to be that appealing anyway. As for scanning stuff, that's such a pain, I've always hated scanning things in.

(continued)
The best ways to learn are through figure drawing, still life's, and perspective drawings. If you can learn to do all of those things then there's not really anything you can't draw or at least use the skills from those to learn how to draw it. I'm still far from being proficient in any of those things, but I like to think I have a basic understanding and it helps when you have to solve a problem and instead of just trying random stuff over and over again you can just identify the problem and understand what techniques to use to fix it.

I'd also recommend that, at least when you're starting out, construct everything, even the most basic of shapes! You might think, "Oh this characters eyes are very simple I'll just draw what I think they should look like" but I urge you to construct the full form of the eyes and sockets and everything! JUST CONSTRUCT IT ALL. Eventually you'll get to a point where you can get away with shortcuts, and I do it myself pretty often especially in sketches, but I really shouldn't!!!

>>2712409
I know what you mean, but I think it tends to be that because the shading's smoother digitally there's a lot of space that looks very similar, the sketch traditional shading makes it appear to have more depth than it really does, if that makes sense. Still something I need to work one though!

I'll definitely second constructing everything. I feel like I wasted a lot of time in retrospect because I thought that doing that stuff was a waste of time at one point. It took me way too long to realize that even artists who don't use construction lines can basically see them without drawing them because they used them so much when learning that it's become second nature.

I also think that some lessons are easier to learn at different times for people though. At the time I think I was just really not ready to learn that way yet. But if you want to actually learn how to do things you can't delude yourself into thinking that you are going to be able to eyeball things especially when you're starting out.

Definitely, you can buy a how to draw manga book, follow the directions perfectly and draw whatever character it tells you to make but you're still not a mangaka. The issue is not the final product, but rather how you got there, and whether or not you can do it consistently, so learning proper construction is a huge help in being able to consistently make the shapes you want. I definitely used shortcuts and symbols way too much for the longest time and even though I've been drawing my whole life I only really started understanding it a few years ago. I hated practicing perspective before, but now I enjoy it a lot because it's a challenge that I have to actually think about instead of just feeling it out intuitively. My current struggle is rendering things, and it doesn't help that I don't really have software like SAI or Corell Painter that work really well for it.

Just because the style Weaver posts in is incredibly simple and stylized doesn't mean he doesn't have the knowledge and talent. It's subtle but you can tell that there's an understanding of what he's doing that shows through. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing some unstylized work of his to see how it compares.
>>
>fics that explain their name changes in parentheses immediately after

If the joke isn't clear enough without the explanation, then you probably should just rewrite it, not explain it in such a way that jerks the reader out of the story.

And 9/10 times its pretty obvious what you are referencing.
>>
>>2712583
I always get a little unreasonably irritated whenever someone mentions specifically what a character is listening to--because in almost all cases it's just the author showing off their shitty taste in music.
>>
>>2712533
I'm at the point where I have to unlearn a lot of things still and practice different things than I'm used to doing. It's challenging to keep motivated sometimes.

At the risk of sounding like a huge shill this thread if you want a nice program for rendering try Clip Studio Paint Pro. It's really not that expensive, it's 50 bucks right now and it goes on sale for like 20 sometimes. It's half way between Sai and Photoshop, you get the nice brush engine of Sai and the ability to manipulate things only slightly worse than photoshop. The best part though is how flexible the shortcuts are. You can bind everything to a key and even multiple things to the same key. I can scroll through several different erasers just by tapping E a few times.
>>
>>2712583
Are you talking about character nicknames
>>
>>2712609
That too. I mean if its like mainstream pop, I take it as just trying to reference real life stuff.
But if you get someone like Judy listening to hipster alt rock, then thats more annoying.

What I hate though is when they put all the lyrics to a song in a story. Especially if its not actually really relevant. Im here to read a story, not read a song.

I'm honestly not even sure that Weaver can draw in a different style than the one he draws in. Don't get me wrong, he's a very good artist at what he does, but his entire artstyle was built around the ability to draw expressively, yet extremely quickly, for the whole quest/drawfag format on 4chan and other imageboards.

I'd be curious to see him try and draw something more realistic, though.
>>

I mean I suppose it depends on how much hes practiced, but I'm sure he can draw in other styles.

An example of an artist who can actually draw decently despite what he normally puts out is actually Dobson. I've seen art he did in college, and some of his sketches without any coloring, and hes actually not a completely terrible artist. His main issue is he is terrible at coloring.
>>
>>2712639
these aren't that bad. I have read stories where they gave random names to bands it didn't matter if it fits or not.
>>
>>2712649
The point isn't that they changed the names it's that they literally documented the original name right next to the changed one

Not only is it utterly unnecessary but it's also really jarring and just fucks with immersion
>>
>>2712647
That quote was in reference to Nick's CD collection btw.
>>2712649
Its not so much the animal name changes that bug me. I don't mind that at all, and we even got that in the movie itself. Guns and Rodents, Fur Fighters, etc.

Its just the fact that the author just felt the need to clarify what each band's real life equivalent was right after in bold in parentheses.
A: Its obvious what he meant, and B:Its really jarring.
>>
>>2712636
I would agree with you if it weren't for a few things, like the way he draws bodies that makes me think he has at least a basic understanding of form construction that wouldn't be super apparent to someone who hadn't learned it already. Maybe it's just a hunch, idk.
>>
>>2712656
ah that yes I got nothing good too say about that so I leave it at that
>>
>>2712636
I heard this story about how a bunch of artists on /tg/ went on some strike or something stupid. But because Weaver expresses himself so much through drawing he couldn't stop himself from going and drawing in random /tg/ threads anyway. In order to get away with it though he drew in a completely different style in order to not get caught. He totally has the capability to draw in other styles but why would he want to?

For Weaver his art is kind of a means to an end. He doesn't enjoy drawing things, he enjoys telling stories through images. If you look at any given weaver image it's always saying something, he doesn't just draw a picture of nick, he draws a picture of nick doing something silly. Or interacting with another character. Or making a joke at the thread's expense. It's never to just draw.

That's a naive way of looking at things.

Suffering is fuel. How one uses that fuel is dependent on themselves as a way to think.

Some of them MAY actually be poets or have artistic talents but either can't channel them, aren't suffering as much as you think or don't want to show them.

Interesting wrinkle: The thin check pattern you see on gingham has been transmuted to mean "gingham" in America and other countries. Even when they're wearing cotton, if it "looks like a picnic table," it's casually referred to as "gingham print."

And that's not even touching on tartan ...

Uhhh, that's not a healthy message. Understanding what you want out of your art is the first step. I want to make a career out of it and I still don't seek perfection. Maybe if you want to be a master level painter and establish concepts like fuckin Davinci then you'll have to put art above your quality of life, but other than that if you're making art a priority when it shouldn't be you're only gonna make yourself hate it.

if you concentrate on one thing the whole time it can cause your mind to burn out on the subject so its best to do things that have nothing to do with drawing at all. You could take a long walk with a head set on and every time you see something that you haven't seen the last time you walked that you create a silly little story about.
like you see a red car parked that isn't there normally you could give it the story that it was being used by a group off robbers who used it to do a heist and the next thing you see you add to that same story.

though never ever use the subject you are working on at home unless you are hit by a blast off inspiration that you can't miss.

Earlier iterations of the script called for Nick to use "Musk-Away," and they've taken pains to say they predicated the movie on biology (loosely, because they're anthropomorphized.)

IF they have musk, those scent glands are almost guaranteed to bristle with pheromones.

Probably not "only," especially if their sense of pheromones is as dull as modern humans' ... but it would be a factor. We're only enabled to find human facial and body language attractive. Something doesn't need to be approved to be available for purchase. Look at all the crazy dangerous drug analogs that are readily available because they haven't been explicitly regulated. Bromo-Dragonfly is an insanely potent psychedelic amphetamine with a high that lasts for days but will kill you or make your fingers and toes rot off if you take a few micrograms more than you're supposed to and it's almost completely unregulated.

"Bath Salts" are a catch all term for an assortment of phenethylamines and cathinones, typically meant to have similar effects to amphetamines, MDMA, or cocaine. All those drugs are great for fucking which is why meth is so popular in the gay party scene.

Ignore anything the media says about drugs because it's guaranteed to be hysterical bullshit that's completely wrong.

Uh, kind of. There was some kind of chronology jump, so I missed the call, but I definitely wasn't working at the prison; I was doing my usual line cook work, but it was a lot of raw greens in Zootopia so it was mad easy, there were other animals here maybe influenced by how much time I've spent in these threads (Comfy looking fox J, my boss reminded me of sheep chumpy but more harsh and commanding) and then I got off work to go and eat alone in a bar. They put on some news and I saw that Bell had gotten a stay of movement somehow and wouldn't be transferred to Tundra-Supermax.

All the other animals were pretty pissed, and I just finished my drink and left. Then I drove along these blank looking streets until I got to the prison again, this time signing in as a civilian and undergoing search by guards who felt like friends I've had in real life; it was really awkward.

Then once I got through the building and to the yard, I realized that I was going to a conjugal trailer and became more awkward and nervous. I went inside anyway.

It had a super orange, 70's interior with shag carpet and fake wood paneling on the walls.Dawn sat there calmly as I took a place across from her.

She asked why I I was here, and I was bitter and said I wasn't sure why I came back, no one seems to think it's healthy for either of us. Then she asked why I chose to try and ensure her lower-sec status at the cost of my job. I was honest, and said I felt bad for her; offering herself to die wasn't just condemning me for my identity as it was her of her guilt and hope for some final absolution. We just chatted a while, and when I left her voice wavered a bit saying goodbye.

I stayed placid until I got to the car, then I just went ballistic for some reason and attacked the wheel of the car.

Then I woke up to silence this time.

What happened to Doug, did he eventually get arrested?

Who is the Mayor of Zootopia by the end of the film?

How did Judy get Nick's tax records if she wasn't on the police register at the time?

Why wasn't Nick's mom at the ceremony at the end of the film?

Is Zootopia an independant City-State or just a city within a country?

Why and where did those ranger scout kids get a muzzle?

Why am I asking so many questions?

I'm quite curious, how would the ZPD catch small type criminals like Weasleton? From all we see, they have large animals that wouldn't even be able to get past the fences of Little Rodentia, and tranquillizers would be difficult to hit against small targets. Other than a separate team or station for smaller type animals, I don't see them capable of handling the entirety of Zootopia's diverse sizes.

While there is a lot of music available for violin, the tradeoff is that the instrument is hard as heck to play. I've only been playing ~4 months, decided "hey I should learn violin" and hit up a pawn shop. Doing alright though. Might get drunk later tonight and vocaroo my attempt at "Try Everything".

Flute is a god instrument too, my roommate last year played a lot. Very relaxing.
>>
>>2715565
Play rhythm games. DDR, Guitar Hero, anything like that. It does wonders for helping you learn rhythm. Especially DDR/Stepmania. Trust me, I know from experience.

Learning how to play the drums helps in that aspect too, but not everyone has 500 bucks to drop on a decentish set.

>>2715774
Never really dabbled in harmonica, but I don't think it would be that hard to play. Guitar is extremely fulfilling to learn and it's something you can do on your own. It takes time and dedication though.
>>
>>2715774
Guitar isn't so hard to learn - but make sure that you learn to play chords, first. Learning a few riff here and there is fine, but a lot of people get tricked into only learning riffs & scales, meaning that when it comes down to actually playing a song, in a band or solo... they have nothing.

I'd just like to point out that lessons, while definitely useful, are not entirely essential if you're good at doing stuff on your own. I've been playing for like ten years and haven't taken a single lesson. I'm usually modest but I like to think I know my way around a fretboard.

Then again, I did take a lot of piano and music theory lessons throughout my life.

>>2715921
A good point. Basic theory is probably something every guitarist should learn first. I have seen friends who wanted to play guitar who didn't understand time signature. Was a bit frustrating to play with.

Also hell yeah man. It's funny, when I got my ESP Eclipse here >>2715693 originally it was between that and a Fender Stratocaster. Couldn't decide for a couple of days. I ended up getting the ESP because I fell in love with its tone and I was in a hard rock/metal band at the time. I figured it'd be more suited for that then a strat would. Plus, that fucking body man. It's a beaut.

>>2715945
Build up some hand strength by the way. Practicing scales for a few hours with a metronome will help that. Buying one of these might help too.

After a few hours of playing your first time through, I imagine your wrist and fingers will be sore, especially the tips of your fingers until you build up callus.
