1) Both, really. The fandom was originally an MLP thing but it's grown into its own separate thing.

2) It originated when some guy made a supremely fluffy MLP OC called 'fluffle puff' and the idea spread. Greentext stories of abuse popped up on 4chan and other sites - we don't know 100% for sure if fluffy abuse is meant to be an imitation of Yukkuri abuse or if it was meant to be cruel to MLP fans who liked the idea of extraordinarily fluffy characters. But it picked up traction and spread.

3) Art quality varies wildly but there ARE some fairly good artists (Carpdime, Ryuunosuke) but the sheer volume of just randomly created stuff by people who want to share their creations/stories/abuse pictures means that the good art is outweighed by a lot of amateurish stuff.

4) Possibly a general hatred towards MLP. Possibly an attempt to mimic Yukkuri stuff. Can't say for sure. For me the appeal is the fact that fluffies display so many negative human traits. They CAN understand their actions but choose not to - typically because of greed or selfishness. There's other reasons I'm sure that's just what makes it appeal to me specificially.

5) Dunno. There's a fluffy booru site with tens of thousands of submissions, image boards with fluffy pictures/greentext/etc, and for some odd reason I've heard it's popular among russians in particular. As for here, all I can say is I started dumping at >>2188060 and the stuff before, while enjoyable, wasn't me.

As for 'regular' abuse threads... well, gore threads (guro, sprite, or real gore) have been a 4chan staple on /b/ and /d/ since its founding. If you haven't seen murder/torture/abuse stuff then you either don't visit those boards, or you haven't been paying attention.

It did not start off so similar to yukkuri stuff at first. Fluffies used to just be cheerful, naive accident prone ponies that died because of their stupidity. Later on as it started gaining popularity several yukkuri fans took notice of it and started inserting the pissing and shitting. I remember hoping the shit craze would wouldn't catch on because it just made fluffies yet another yukkuri knockoff but now it's seeped so deep in the canon it's pretty close to catering to scat fetishists.

One person who I talk to said he found fluffy pony after he was already involved in yukurris and the reason he joined fluffy threads instead of sticking with yukkuris was because the active yukurri fanbase mainly spoke japanese so he couldn't understand the newer stuff.

Fluffy pony actually started out more like Happy Tree Friends but devolved into the yukkuri style later on. So if you're wondering why so much content is focused on shitting and pissing, you can thank the yukkuri fans.

It's a new trend that has caught on the past year or so. When we were banned from /mlp/ some guy was convinced the fandom was going to die if we didn't make fluffy generals on /b/. The problem was he posted the same pictures in every image dump, which mainly contained abusers abusing brats and smarties. Over time the newer fans started thinking all fluffies act that way and have developed the "fluffies are worst aspects of humanity and every person you've ever hated" excuse for abusing them.

Then people started writing stories about making them into pets. Headcanon was developed. They were good pets but stupid and fragile as fuck. One long dead head canon was that fluffy ponies were ponies cursed and transformed into a lesser being for trying to over throw the Sun empire because at the time MLP fans liked the thought of Luna trying secretly building a rebellion while Celestia was a two faced dictator.

The number one thing that shifted the fluffy fandom away from equestria was a very popular fanfiction called "MY Little Dashie". The fanfiction was about some beta loser brony in the human world feeling depressed about himself because his life sucks. He wishes with all his might he could get Rainbow dash plushy or some shit and he stumbles across a rainbow dash foal abandoned living in a card board box. Instead of taking it as his pet he adopts it as his own daughter and even has Rainbow dash call him daddy instead of master unlike most talking animal stories usually do.Towards the end of the story Rainbow dash is fully grown, the brony is happy and then Princess Celestia and the other main characters appear at his front door. Supposedly one of them fucked up a spell and accidentally sent Rainbow to the human world. They appear shocked and releaved that she is actually happy and ok because Celestia told them our world was full of misery and suffering and they expected to find her a broken shell of what she once was. The ponies let Rainbow say good bye to her "daddy" and they return to equestria leaving the brony all to live all alone again.

Since the fanfiction was so popular several people who didn't like it made grim dark versions portraying the world of suffering hinted by Celestia. My Little Dashie gave the fandom an excuse to put fluffies into the human world and it influenced several tropes in the fandom. You can still find stories about some random anon walking around and finding a fluffy in a cardboard box and it's the reason why fluffies call their owners daddy and mommy.

Over time the fandom moved away from the MLP inspired ideas and made their own head canon for why fluffies were in the human world. So now they are biologically engineered pets created by a company called Hasbio and the flawed and unstable prototypes were released by PETA after breaking into Hasbio's research labs.
