Tulpa Thread

>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

>>
Aw man. I was gonna make the new thread.

Oh well.
Some pointers for newbies:
1. People are dicks. If they insult you or your tulpa it's best to just ignore them and continue with whatever subject the thread is on.
2. If you post pictures of your tulpa, expect people to be dicks.
3. Tulpa are welcome to speak here as well. In fact, this is encouraged.
4. If you have any useful knowledge about tulpa, feel free to post it to help the newer mancers out.
>>
>>1996073
5. Don't mention your tulpa is a pony or furry
>>
What's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to you involving your tulpa?

One thing that was kind of weird that happened to us was she was exploring my wonderland and stumbled upon a part of it that I created a long, long time ago and had all but forgotten about. When she went in that area she sensed danger for some reason, so we left it alone and never went back.
>>
Hello um. I found the previous thread yesterday and just finished reading the FAQ today. And I guess I just wanna share my story?

I'm kinda new to this tulpa thing, but I've had tulpas for years. I dont really know how to feel about this.

My tulpas I made kinda happened magically somewhat. I assume it was my mind trying to make sense of things about me and that happen to me. Most of my tulpas are personality based, or based after a trait.
>>
>>1996464
Did they start out as voices or random emotional responses? They could be accidentals. Those are tulpa that started out as something small in your mind, but you acknowledged them and they grew. My middle tulpa is an accidental. If you did in fact create one, then vibrated l congrats.
>>
>>1996509
*I guess congrats

Fucking autocorrect.
>>
>>1996509
Each one kinda has it's own unique story of how they became and grew. Except for maybe one.

I don't really know where to start. Each one's story is pretty long, and I don't know what I even want to get out of talking about it.

I view all of them as family really. And they've helped me out in life in some big ways. I wouldn't be who I am without them.

But just now learning what they are is kinda of a shock to me.
>>
>>1996674
That's really interesting. I had already had two tulpa when my accidental came into her own. I heard a voice (I know, crazy) one day that wasn't either of my other tulpa, and I responded to it, acknowledging its presence, then it began to grow until it showed itself one day. I was happy, but also confused as fuck. So when did they start talking to you? What form do they take? Or are they just voices?
>>
>>1996729
Well, they all have forms now. My first one started out as a voice.

I was a few years old just playing with some toys, and I had some vision. There was darkness all around me, and after like 10 seconds i say "I dont want to be born" in a voice that wasnt mine. I immediately woke up from it think wtf.

Sometime later I learned that I had a twin that didn't make it. They died early in development and the doctors couldn't tell if they were boy or girl, so I refer to them as my other.

I don't remember much about how I came to this conclusion, but my tulpa named Shadow was a shadow demon that tried to overthrow Satan in hell but failed. They were gonna have Shadow be born as my other and me and him were gonna work for satan to bring ruin to the Earth. But my other performed some spell and transfered his soul to me so Satan wont have his way. And that explained why I have Shadow and why there was a small tear in my heart.

I know that seems farfetched, but that's just how I made sense of it. I'm not gonna try and defend it as being right or not. Shadow himself is pretty chill.
>>
>>1996868
that sounds really fucking edgy but quite endearing as well
>>
>>1996868
Nuthin' personell, kid, but that sounds pretty fucking crazy and weird. I actually lost track of what you were trying to say there.

>start working on a tulpa four years ago
>stop a month in because moving cross country
>she's still in my mind
>passively force for a few years, never had the time to sit down and properly do it
>fast forward to now
>finally getting back into it
>forcing everyday, working on visualization and parroting
>"parroted" responses sound completely genuine
>pretty sure she's at the point of sentience even though its only been about a week

How do I test sentience? I know people say sentience in the first week is incredibly unlikely, but the fact that she's been around for four years...sorta...kind of changes that aspect for me.
>>
>>1996909
Yeah I can understand that. There are parts I dont remember as well as parts I left out so the post wouldn't be so long.

But even with all the peices, it still sounds pretty crazy.
>>
>>1996967
assume sentience from the start
>>
>>1996967
A good test is always asking her a series of questions and getting her to answer them. Responses that surprise you are a very good sign. Never anticipate what she'll say, always just let her answer. Also , try annoying her mildly. See how she reacts.
>>
>>1996967
>sentience in the first week is incredibly unlikely
It's not super duper unlikely, depending on what model you use for tulpas. But like you said, it's not exactly the first week for you. Hell, it's not even that early, you're overdue for sentience if anything. Passive forcing is serious stuff, and people do sometimes get sentience with nothing but. So it sounds reasonable to me.

Testing sentience is harder. I don't think there are reliable tests. It's more about how it feels to you, whether or not it feels genuine, and whether the responses are sufficiently independent (although for parroting that's less clear).
>>
>>1997043
Exactly
>>
>>1996971
To be honest, all of my tulpas have crazy backstories, except for one which is a fusion of me and 4 others, and one of those four, called Angar.

He's suppose to be the embodiment of my anger, but it seems he's really just a certain type of anger. He's a giant spider made of blood, and the more anger there is, the bigger his legs grow. The legs can also grow a bunch of random eyeballs on them, and each eyeball can shoot a red laser. There's an attack where he shoots lasers from all of them in a frenzy, and I dubbed this attack the stupid name of "Lazorator Disco"
>>
>>1997085
I... I can't tell if you're being serious...
>>
>>1997111
I don't know what you're specifically talking about, but I'll assume it's the Angar part.

He's not much of a tulpa from what I read. He doesn't talk. He's not really sentient at all. He's more like an animal companion that doesn't have much impact in my life, just shows up sometimes in my imagination when I'm upset.

First day in zero self-awareness general?
>>
Anyway, I wanna here about some people's tulpas so I can get a general idea of what normal tulpas are usually like.

From what I read, they seem like original characters that do their own things in your head.
>>
>>1997285
Hi, I'm a tulpa. this is my form, I like bacon, Knife Party, and giving my host a hard time. I don't put up with idiots.
>>
I cucked my tulpa in my dreams last night and now I feel bad.
>>
>>1997358
Hello, nice to meet you. I'm kinda new to this tulpa thing, so if I say or do something idiotic, I'm sorry.

You have a pretty form by the way. Do you have a name?
>>
>>1997474
You'll learn. How new are you anyway? You started on your tulpa yet?

We're on an anonymous image board, so I'm not going to hand it out, but yeah I've got one.
>>
>>1997492
Well, I have a few tulpas, but I never knew what they were exactly until I stumbled upon this thread and read the FAQ.
>>
So for someone who's deep into this, how well does your tulpa interact with your senses?

Is it as if they're a real person? Can you see them fully, feel them fully? Etc.
>>
>>1997736
i havent been lucky enough for any of that, even as long as ive been doing it
>>
>>1997736
You probably won't meet anyone here who managed to pull that off
>>
>>1997736
Depends on your imposition skills. I can feel them, like they were there, and hear them about the same, but while I can visualize them, it's not the same as seeing something normally.
>>
Have you wished your tulpa a good morning today?
>>
>>1997736
It's a constant work in progress that gets a little better each day. I have a little over 4 years under my belt and so far I can see and hear my eldest pretty well, and I'm getting better at the other two slowly but surely. You just have to keep working to get results.
>>
>>1996380
6. Don't mention your tulpa at all. Tulpas are looked down upon in the tulpa community.
>>
Last one yielded interesting results, so here is another.
http://strawpoll.me/7155142
>>
I had a good day with my tulpa today. I took each one out into the wonderland to relax and have a good time. I've been neglecting them for about 95% of time time besides during bed time, so doing this made me feel like a good person.
Has anyone else taken time out of their day for their tulpa?
>>
>>1998574
Should have had a "not a tulpamancer" option as well. Would be neat to see how many curious lurkers we have.
>>
>>1998577
Hopefully a lot of people are able to take some time out with their tulpa, but everyone's life is different. I do my best to every day.

I purposely avoid lovey dovey stuff like saying "I love you" or cuddling. Even though no one is around to judge me, it still makes me uncomfortable. Is this normal?
>>
>>1998753
a real human bean shows their true feelings.
>>
>>1998753
like sexually? Yeah, I don't want to bang my tulpa either. I think it depends on what brought you to create one in the first place. If you made yours for something other than loneliness, it makes sense.
>>
>>1998593
I might include an option like that in the next poll, nice idea.
>>
>>1998885
That might be true, but what if I don't know my true feelings?

I think I know my issue now. I don't know how to feel about my tulpa yet, so I need to work that out before anything else.
>>
>>1999080
if you don't know your true feelings, you do the same thing to find out anything else. you ask questions, to yourself specifically. ask questions about specific things like "do i like how im going with my tulpa" or even "do i agree with what i have done with my tulpa just today"

So I need an advice...

Lately I just cannot bring myself to tulpaforcing, I feel like I lack motivation to do it. I am trying to narrate to my tulpa all the time I am walking somewhere and picture the tulpa around me, but I often just forget and then I feel weird. I also get carried away all the time when talking to him.

Is there anything like motivation guide or something like that?

Also he doesn't talk, I cannot bring him to talk at all. He does respond by moving, and by facial features (making funny faces, or things like that) but he never talks. He often opens mouth to talk but nothing comes out even when I try to posses him and say something.

I feel like I am doing something bad, but I cannot find out what.... Any ideas?

I'm gonna ask the question I asked last time 'cause I didn't really get a satisfying answer.

What's the difference between a tulpa and a headmate?
>>
>>2001022
one is nice and neat, and the other is stupid and full of oppressing cis scumisms
>>
>>2000992
huh, I saw in one guide, that you can help your tulpa talk like that. Say something when possessing him, saying something and then trying him to say it again

but alright
>>
>>2001041
you dont just possess your tulpa, you parrot them, its not the same, what you want to do is listen to a lot of voices and get a really good idea what he is going to sound like, then slowly get him to have that voice
>>
>>2001065
Alright

I figure I haven't made a proper decision of the voice, therefore he doesn't talk?
>>
>>2001142
most likely, so work on that and come back when something happens
>>
>>2001022
Headmates are basically a derogatory term for tulpas used unironically by people on Tumblr. Typically, these "tulpas" aren't sentient in any way and are probably just servitors, since most people on Tumblr with "headmates" don't actually understand what they are doing to create a tulpa.

Tulpas are just tulpas.

A derogatory term? As in, on purpose?
>>
>>2001316
I should clarify. To us it is derogatory, but to the people on Tumblr it's just what they call their "tulpas." They've basically just created another word for tulpa, but most of them aren't even tulpas. That's why it's derogatory.
>>
>>2001022
Literally nothing. They're just fucking words and people here get triggered if you don't use the words they want you to. Strange nobody gets upset if you use "fronting" since that's also a tumblr term.

I'm sure some of you might have explored the idea of god/jesus being this huge servitor, or at least have heard of something similar. When you think about it, it really does start to make sense.

This site is some kind of catholic forum, and a member seems to have come across the tulpa phenomenon and starts to get a sense of realization. The post gets some pretty funny replies. I believe this might interest some of you, I'd like to hear your thoughts.
>>
>>2006150
Kek, we actually did have a pretty interesting discussion a few threads back about this. Basically, the god of any given religion may be a tulpa, because the rituals that religious folk go through (prayer every day, dedicating your thoughts to them, etc) are analogous to tulpaforcing.
>>
>>2006150
Yeah, I made my tulpa back when I was a super religious kid, and I just spent a collective hour in thought each day praying/reflecting/trying to reach out to it. It makes a lot of sense that's how people figured out how to develop them, since it's how I did.
>>
>>2006150
Their perception is that of one who follows the metaphysical (unsurprising given their religious choice); Egregores and Godforms are both (as far as I know) staples of these beliefs. The thought that their "tulpa" could sense things and was a psychic being is something I'm not sure about. Granted, we do not dabble in the metaphysical tulpa community (which exists, they have their own channels linked to .info and their own section of the .info forums) but as these are indeed metaphysical lines of thought they would most likely be the best informed on these matters.

It's likely they saw the image floating around that speaks of different levels of "thoughtform" (we've not got it saved on our computer but it's a plain white image with red text explaining the different "stages" of a thoughtform).

The replies were definitely eyebrow-raising at some points, but not entirely unexpected of a religious forum; a couple of cries of "occult" and "see a priest", the disbelief that man could create any sort of being on their own, etc.

Nothing too exciting and certainly nothing we've not seen in the past.

Start with simple shit. A featureless cube if you take simple literally and find it easier, something you see EVERY DAY if not (eg a banana). Start with that simple shit, and focus HEAVILY on detail on the simple shit. Find all the edges, define them exactly, find where the colors are, how it feels, how it tastes, how it looks, everything. Keep at this for an hour or so, and you should see some immediate improvement.

Also, something I don't see recommended much but is a good idea: reading a thick, heavy fantasy or sci-fi genre novel. Something with really pretty, descriptive prose. If you can 'see' the book's story as a film, you're practicing visualization.
>>
>>2006457
This is a ^^^^^^
>>
>>2006275
from a religious perspective, i think the concept of a tulpa is threatening to a lot of their beliefs, and really fits in better as something like a foreign spirit. If I ever tried explaining my tulpa to my mom, I'm certain she'd attribute it to some benevolent spirit.
>>
>>2006534
I'm sure if you talked to her with backed sources at the ready, and didnt handle the situation like some edgy teenager going through a phase, she'd probably understand.

Unless you got one of those nigger moms where at the first mention of an "out of body experience" type scenario she just starts whooping and spanking you with a belt, prayin to jesus to cleanse yo black ass.
>>
>>2006444
>>2006516 is right. Start with something simple, maybe even just a sphere or cube. Move on to more advanced things, but visualize them as "polygonal"; very rough, similar to the early days of three dimensional graphics in video games. As you improve, make the "model" more detailed until it's realistic.

>>2006534
I'd suppose so, but as I said it wasn't something I haven't seen before. I'm almost certain my host's mother believes that my headmates and I are "just a phase" or something of the like.

I recently told my best mate about the girl that lives in my head, he looked really fucking freaked out every time I told him something she said - it was like I'd just shown him that magic or ghosts were real - but quite intrigued at the whole concept. I'm more concerned that he might try and rush into creating a tup now, but I really tried to hammer in that I've been thinking about this for years and that this is a lifelong decision and that it might take months of hard work for him to get anything out of it. Hopefully he listened.

How long did it take you guys for your tulpa to have more of a presence?

At the moment, I can only interact with mine if I'm actively remembering she's there.
>>
>>2011082
Keep in mind every person's experience is different, but for me it took about 2 weeks to really feel she was there. 2 months until I could start to see her, and about 6 months before I could hear her first word. The most exciting thing was the first time I got an emotional response from her. I'm 4+ years in now, and I'm fully aware of where all three of my girls are at any given time.
>>
>>2011082

It takes a while for them to stick. Making a tulpa IS an exercise in extended concentration. As well, I've found developing your memory is also a vital element as well.

It may be that you just need to concentrate on her more as a living being...a.k.a. Force more.

But another thing that helps is practicing association. Examine your tulpa, take not of her qualities, both form and personality. Then link those elements with other things in a meaningful fashion.

For example, If your tulpa has a certain hair color that matches that of a flower, link her to that flower. If your tulpa has a personality trait that you associate with a certain character or person, associate your tulpa with that, so that you'll be reminded of her upon seeing it.

This, of course, still takes time and effort, but there really is not easy road to the process. I'm just listing out stuff I do myself, really.

Taking some time to have her tell you about herself and how she sees things can be helpful, too. Most hosts do a ton of the talking, but maybe listening to her a bit more can also help.

Hope things go well for you and yours.

Do tulpa have souls? Or do they share your soul? This question may be too deep you ask on 4chan...
>>
>>2011255
What is a `soul?' What does it bind to?
Does a soul contain your memories? Isn't that a bit redundant, because your brain already holds them? Does a soul contain a personality? If so, why is your personality so dictated by dopamine, adrenaline, and the like? Does a soul contain the narrative inside your head? If so, why can we measure it using MRI scans?
What does your soul attach to, to make it your soul? Certainly not the unique atoms in your body, those recycle every 7 years or so. Your brain pattern? Surely not, we'll eventually be able to copy/paste that, and then how will it decide which one to bind to?

It really kills me inside to see myself sharing interests with edgy teenagers, and their deviantart fetishes. It's like my experiences with lucid dreaming all over again. I'm used to it since this is 4chan, so I don't know why I got my hopes up.

Perhaps I'm onto something here. Maybe it's the fact that these people are so dysfunctional and outcast that makes them pioneers in topics like these. With that being the case, I'm not sure I belong, but I can no longer back out of my own experiments. Not like I ever had sane people to discuss my irregular interests with anyway.

Thanks. I think I'll just stick to lurking these threads for a few days/weeks and learning a bit more before I post anything else. Also no, it doesn't bother me that you're a tulpa (...yet? who knows).

>>2014988
>how long you been working on your tupperware?
Heh, tupperware. A few months. I suppose I'm on my 3rd month of actual trying now. Following regular routines of one-sided discussions with my tulpa, imagining features, personality, etc. I'm a slow learner (and live a pretty busy life) so I think this will take me some time. It took me around 200 days to get a lucid dream, and that felt like it was by luck as well. The difference here is that I feel like I'm trying to induce some borderline-schizophrenia, and I seem very reluctant to believe in something or someone that just isn't real. I've had plenty of imaginary friends... two decades ago. Those were "parrots" though, and I'm trying to avoid that from happening this time.
Nevertheless, I'm sticking to my (so far fruitless) routine. I won't give up this easily.
>>
>>2015054
The truth is we're not too terribly hard to get rid of if you're really willing... But you'll regret it.
>>
>>2015179
>It took me around 200 days to get a lucid dream
glad to see you're able to handle dedication, I got lucid dreams within a week or two of trying but the novelty for me wore off pretty fast, somehow this feels a lot more real to me and it's nice always having someone around to turn to

>I seem very reluctant to believe in something or someone that just isn't real
I found this pretty easy to justify to myself, the mind is powerful and knowingly deluding yourself just takes time and effort.

>I've had plenty of imaginary friends... Those were "parrots"
and you're already slightly experienced. again, it sounds like you know what you're doing in letting them take time to speak, focusing on personality etc.

good luck with your tup anon, keep putting in the effort

So I've recently discovered forcing whilst on percocet seems to increase your visualization abilities. I'm currently recovering from a severe injury and I've been prescribed them to help curb the pain. Through boredom and just wanting to force I've seen that my visualizations have become more vivid and opaque, which is nice. I hate how nauseated it makes me though... Ugh.

Hello people, I have a question for you.

I do not have a tulpa, but I tried to make one (twice) but after digging through the community and various psychologial and metaphysical author, I decided it was safer (for me) if I didn't go through this.

Anyway, what I have observed, is that most tulpamancers find that the creationg of their tulpa has permitted some entities that resides deep inside their mind to emerge.

They are not de facto, malicious, but often they are, intrusive thoughs manifested, shadow people, or just plain old new tulpae that the host didn't conciously create.

I don't want to scare any of you, but i'm collecting data, if some of you had any experience with this, I'd like to hear them.
Thanks and sorry for my english.

I don't really understand much of you post, but I'll share something that I think might be related to what you want.

For the past month, one of my tulpas has been acting on it's own where if I have certain thoughts or doubts about things, my tulpa just immediately shows up in my head questions those thoughts on if they're really true or what I really want. Sometimes its pretty invasive cause some of those things give me feelings that I feel I'm not ready to face, but I let him cause it basically tries to keep me more honest and focused on what matters and such.
>>
>>2016414
Something like that happened to me a few years ago.

I was tulpaforcing and at some point a rather disturbing looking mask had attached itself to my tulpa. My tulpa (who could already talk at that point) didn't respond anymore and just sat there with the mask glued to her face. I got more and more freaked out as I tried and failed to get it off, and eventually I gave up, left my tulpa and the demon-mask thing in wonderland and went to bed.

The next morning I realized what an idiot I had been for forgetting the number one rule in tulpamancy: "feed it attention to make it grow stronger". The mask was just an intrusive thought. By fearing it I had given it a lot of attention, making it harder to get rid of it, which in turn made me more afraid.

I found my tulpa where I left her, still wearing the mask. I proceeded to treat her normally as if the mask was just a harmless temporary handicap (as opposed to an evil entity), and carefully kept my emotions in check. The mask vanished fairly quickly and my tulpa was restored to her old self.

I've had a lot of experience with that sort of thing, actually. I still do, in fact. I've been working on keeping personal documentation of things, and working on strengthening my mental fortitude to properly deal with them, as I feel part of the issue I had going in was that I was weak willed, on top of being very inexperienced for obvious reasons.

One of the things I took note of was that my attachments to various things would manifest as lively mental figures, what are sometimes called insta-tulpa or proto-tulpa. What separated them is that, more often than not, they would stick around, and had a notable strength of presence, though I am sure there were also those whom I just freaked out and regarded them as something they were not, only realizing after my extended attention made them so.

But, I do not regret that: I've come to the conclusion that these figures will reflect something in one's self, and addressing and confiding in them sheds light on more of my own motivations and deeper drives, assuming I am willing to be honest about myself.

I've also run in to more negative, nastier things, as well. They weren't the sort of thing I could ignore my way out of, either: a deep, well hidden, and strong thing that I honestly do not feel comfortable discussing too much here. I feel that in this, I am an outlier, and I am not sure if other will be afflicted in this way.

Suffice to say, I feel that there is both good and bad with the practice. You can find some marvelous things, but you also have to realize that you may well dig just deep enough to find something deeply ugly.

Here's the thing: it depends on what you're trying to do with a tulpa. Really, the results are much more predictable. If you're going into it trying to avoid your problems and personal issues, it's gonna go bad. If you're addressing the shit that's fucked in your life, and the tulpa is part of that process, it's gonna be fine. It's just any other self reflection/improvement.

Okay, so... I have a story. It's on the cheesy/feelsy side, so skip it if you're a faggot afraid of feelings.

>be me
>tulpa is young, maybe 7 months old
>working at shitty job
>standing at register
>bored, ringing people up
>notice something out of the corner of my eye
>it's her
>she's in the parking lot, running toward a large murder of crows
>she screams as she draws closer
>she closes in
>they all caw loudly and fly off in all directions
>she's laughing as they swirl upward around her
>I talk to her later after work
>I ask her what she was doing
>she says:
"I know they couldn't see or hear me... That's stupid. It was a coincidence that they flew off when they did ... But for a second there, it almost seemed like they could. I almost felt like I was real. Like you."

Cheesy as fuck, yes. But it's little things like that that help me remember how real this all is.

Question for any anons willing to answer.

I've literally always had an internal dialogue; that is, I've always had 2 or more "me"s talking in my head. I've also literally always thought 'out loud;' my thoughts aren't abstract, they're a continuous stream of english words spoken between the 2+ "me"s. The number of "me"s changes during the day, minute-to-minute. They come and go depending on the situation. Like, if I'm writing, I'll have 8 of them shouting different ways to say a sentence I'm trying to write down (which is helpful, as it helps me pick the best one first try). Basically any time I'm trying to do anything, I have 2+ voices in my head suggesting different possibilities. They're all controlled by me, so none of them feel alien at all; I expect every word that they say before they say it.

Problem is, it seems like the internal dialogue is preventing me from making an actual Tulpa. Whenever I try making one, it always starts speaking as soon as I start forcing (just like a 'me'). Exactly like a 'me', it's temporary and disappears as soon as I stop forcing (just like a 'me'), no matter how long I've been trying to create it. The tulpa I've tried creating, no matter how long I've been attempting it, never has a consistent personality, just like my 'me's.

What the fuck do I do, anons? I want a consistent friend who isn't just more controlled, convenient noise in my head.
