Why do video games usually portray clowns in a negative light?
>>

Cause majority of the world portrays clowns in a negative light.

I liked it, but it wasn't scary at all. There were no jump scares either which is good. It's honestly a lot funnier than it is scary. Some bits are kinda spooky, I guess. More surreal. I liked It. I liked the strange movements and crazy eyes. Bad scary movie, good general movie, pretty good comedy.

pretty darn gud. lots of memorable scenes. I plan to go watch IT again this weekend with my lady friend.

People are pussies, that's about it. A clown is the least scary thing literally ever.
>>
>>11454615
The remake is only the portion of the story where they are children, so he doesn't turn into a full spider. There are hints of him being one. For one thing, he sprouts sharp spider legs out of his mouth to try and stab the kids, when they fight. Also, when he descends into darkness, disappearing for the rest of the film, you can see him deform into something larger in the darkness.

I'm so tired of the "AHH SCARY CLOWNS" thing, like clowns are meant to be creepy and unsettling when they are close to normal but with something off about them, not just generic scary monsters with giant teeth. I don't know, I feel that the whole scary clowns thing has been so overdone that it has supplanted the genuine love for clowns out there it was meant to be subverting leaving it just kind of pointless.

I lost it when Pennywise started doing the fucking dance near the end of the movie. Another great scene was when he was taunting the little fag about eating his arm.

>>11454613

>>
>>11454607
Better than the mini-series, but that's not saying much. The effects are almost laughably bad and it's not scary even a little, but the dialogue is well written and there are times when it creates a good sense of atmosphere.
>>
Best scene was honestly the beginning with Georgie. The tension was palpable. Him trying to crawl away after getting his arm ripped off while screaming for his brother before getting dragged into the sewer was fucked up.
>>
I'm still mad about the dark tower movie being shit.
>>
>>11454631
I was more talking about the recent movie that looks like it is trying to cash in on the trend than the book

>>11454630
Yeah, because someone voicing their opinion on trends is shitposting. Is today your first day on the internet or something?
>>
>>11454640
I forgot about that scene.
>>
>>11454644
Of course not anon, because now to get the whole story you need to see TWO movies! :^)

>>11454641
And a good chunk of that is introspection and rambling from the protagonists, which is why most of kings novels make shitty movies, it's material that you can't really adapt 1:1. They could've easily condensed it to 2 1/2 hours.
>>
>>11454649
I want the scene to be gif'd so I can keep it forever.

Just him dancing with a pissed off face. The camera centering on his face, like that one gif of that boy dancing in that blue shirt. People keep saying, "I laughed at the scene." I think that was the goal.

For all those looking forward to watching the movie, the CG is extremely bad like they forget to edit some shaders and match the lighting.

Game of thrones has better CG fucking lmao
>>
>>11454662
More focus on the kids.
More focus on their individual fears.
More blood.
Better child acting.
More stuff from the books (the leper for example).
More violent Georgie scene.

>>11454665
It's possible, but they did a lot of things different. Like his 'lights he uses to hypnotize' are no longer from his eyes. Instead, he opens his mouth, which extends and opens wider over the red lines that go over his eyes. His mouth is a gaping, soul sucking vortex of lights and screaming children.

My dentist says the same thing about my mouth.
>>
>>11454672
The leper looked sub-par for a Walking Dead episode.
>>
>people saying the kid getting his arm ripped off is surprisingly graphic
>cgi chomp on his arm then camera cuts away to him crawling away with his arm already gone

disappointed desu, the way people were talking I thought the visible damage was gonna be more graphic like when the main character from The Green Room gets his arm sliced up and his wrist is barely attached.
>>
>>11454669
I don't think The Dark Tower matters since it was a commercial and critical failure, plus they never really planned on making it a series of movies, just condensed all the novels into a single movie. The Dark Tower is stupid though, what kind of author is so fucking vain that he writes a book to not only connect every book he's written, but includes the name of the man who hit him in a drunk driving accident
>>
>>11454669
Yes of course, we need lots of connections to King's worst works, which should have no relation to the self contained narrative that was originally It before King decided to go full shared universe and add it to the dark tower, a series of books where he writes himself into the story.

I think it was a combination of a real actor in makeup and CG added, which is why it sorta had the most uncanny look to it.

The main thing that was good about the mini-series was the portion with Pennywise vs the kids. When they became adults, the movie become unbearably boring, save for Tim Curry and his "PRINCE ALBERT IN A CAN" moments. But even then, it stops being scary entirely with the "You want it" moment and the dog head.

I like the kid from Stranger Things and he's good in this movie, but I kept thinking I was watching an episode of that every time he was on screen. It's too similar.
>>
>>11454675
Green Room and Blue Ruin are in a whole different league of thriller films than most horror shlock as the director really wants the injuries to look and feel real.
>>

Shawshank and Green Mile. King's best works are always his short stories where he stays laser focused on the immediate plot and doesn't meander for literally hundreds of pages about stupid shit no one cares about, and his human stories with little to no supernatural elements or ones where there may be paranormal happenings but there's no monster or massive threat.

Shawshank and Green Mile are pretty simple, standard stories, and his short stories, of which shawshank was one, are leagues beyond his novels which range from honestly pretty great in the 70s (Salems Lot is actually pretty great), to absolutely trash.

It isn't omnipotent. And it enjoys eating kids when they are terrified. In the books all of the times It was at its weakest was when the kids weren't afraid of it.
>>
>>11454701
Not him, it's one of the best endings of all times, in my opinion.
>>
>>11454691
Yes and no. He didn't do the whole "Point and laugh at them" thing, but he'd do tricks and pranks on them.

At one point:
>Pennywise needs to stall two of the kids because he's managed to corner one kid and is ready to eat him
>The two kids are trapped and come face to face with three doors
>First door says "Not so Scary"
>Second door says "Scary"
>Third door says "Very Scary"
>The kids, of course, open the "Not so Scary" door, and find one the girls he ate hanging by chains with her entire lower torso gone and dripping with entrails.
>Eventually, the kids figure out that none of this is real and dispel the entire thing.
>Upon this happening, Pennywise stops eating and basically looks towards where the kids are coming from in an, "God dammit, I can't enjoy my meal" kind of way.

>>
>>11454691

>>
>>11454728
The tv show is garbage. I didn't really care about the original movie but I did like the novella.
>>
>>11454719
Exactly.
But I appreciate that he at least didn't try to out-Curry the old Penny.
>>
>>11454723
It is good but there's some pretty major flaws

They rush the exposition scenes with the kids so they can fit more "here's a kid by himself encountering the monster in a scary new form" scenes. And the CG on the whole is REALLY bad, it looks way too cheap for a movie of this budget

Also, I don't remember Stan's painting woman at all from the book (admittedly read it like 10 years ago) and that shit was fucking TERRIFYING compared to most of the monster forms
>>
>>11454717
Pennywise exiting the fridge and rapidly shapeshifting in the finale were by far the most enjoyable parts for me

/tv/ would probably call me a pleb but I would've preferred less coming of age/bonding stuff and more Pennywise being a douche.
>>
>>11454727
God, this is bullshit. That's not true. In the book and the original mini-series, the only kids he does that too are naive kids like Georgie. The Losers are ALL freaked out by him to begin with, and Pennywise knows this. This is why he fucks with them and scares them instead of luring them in like Georgie.

I mean the entire book is an extended metaphor for kids being forced into adult situations/things they can't fully understand and how they cope with it, as well as some classic anime-style power of friendship and King's own weird inner monologue "there's a turtle god" shit, so the bonding is pretty core to the experience

Not really, it's the presence of a clown in unusual places that is unnerving, not his actual appearance beyond "it's a clown". Making him look menacing doesn't alter the bizarre sense of unreality you feel when you see something like a clown hopping around in a storm drain.

The problem with It is the same problem with every King novel beyond a few hundred pages, it inevitably begins to unravel and then collapses entirely by the final stretch.

The reason the director cut it into 2 movies is so the first movie would actually be good, honestly removing the adult arc entirely is a good idea and there should never be an adult movie.
>>
>>11454742
Maybe. But at the same time, people were scared of Pennywise to begin with. Even without seeing the mini-series or reading the book.
>>
>>11454737

>>
>>11454727
We've been through this already. The point of Pennywise taking the form of a clown isn' to lull people into a false sense of security. It's too FUCK with them because he's taken the form of a happy, friendly clown, except instead of being like Bozo, he's John Wayne Gacy giggling and saying he's gonna fuck your ass into his cock bursts through your mouth.

Pennywise doesn't need to lure anyone into his grip, and the clown form is never intended to that beyond with very little children like Bill's brother. It's not meant to look benign, it's meant spook you, make you tastier to It, and give him jollies.

IT being made into two movies makes sense, as there are two complete parts in the story, and the book is relatively long to begin with. I mean, that's why the original ""movie"" was a mini-series. It was a long fucking mini-series.

But I'll give you Hobbit. Hobbit is not that long of a book, and stretching it into three long fucking movies was such a money grab.

I doubt it. I would've preferred cutting it entirely. Kings best adaptations are done when the director decides to say "fuck it, I'm using it as a template for my own movie and what king wants or thinks can fuck itself."

Kubrick made The Shining by doing it. We might've lost Jack's inner struggle but we got one of the greatest movies and performances from any horror movie, ever. King didn't even want Nicholson for Jack, he thought it'd spoil that jack goes apeshit even though that's barely even a fucking spoiler.

Not to mention, the eyes seem to do that whenever he uses his mouth. The wider he opens his mouth, the more his eyes roll back.

When he opens his mouth to the widest he can (when he uses his light thing to zombify Bev), not only do his eyes roll all the way back, but they sink in and disappear. The lines going over his eyes are part of his mouth, allowing his entire face to open as part of his mouth.

It's a really neat effect. And it's why his eyes cross whenever he bares his teeth.

Didn't really care for it. I mean it was scarier than old IT but the original had a bit more style to it. Pennywise used to toy with the losers a lot in the old one, whereas in the new one he's trying to attack them directly way more often. Also don't really get some of the changes, like why the bully kid snaps so easily (he was supposed to be influenced by It but it seems rather weaksauce in the film).
