Oh I agree, the sets are good, I just overall didn't like it past that point. I still have a mixed bin with some Phantoka parts in it as well as a bevy of older parts.

Ah, ic. Yeah, the last 2 years of Gen 1 weren't as great but I still liked them, and Gen 2 was shit. It's really sad, LEGO's just gotten into them mindset that kids today are much stupider than they were a decade ago, so they keep dumbing down their stories now.
Hero Factory was originally meant to be much more complex than Bionicle was, with a conspiracy regarding the factory itself and a sense of dread over the "heros being artificially created", but the higher ups just made it what it is now because they thought it was too complex.
Have you seen the artwork for Bionicle Gen 2? There was some real thought put into it, but I imagine the execs made the same mistake with HF and turned that into their latest shitshow. It's real sad, man.

I assume everyone knows the story behind the original inspiration for Bionicle? The thing with pills traveling through the body to fight off cancer? And this becoming the inspiration for the canisters containing the Toa who would fight the corruption spreading through Mata Nui? That's still one of the most incredible stories I've ever read.
