Nah, FNAF happened. I've been a long time viewer of his and there was a clear shift when FNAF became popular.

It does seem like it, honestly.

One of his worst recent videos was the For Honor one about who would win between a knight, Viking and samurai. It was very poorly researched he and he was just wrong on most his points. The most annoying part is that even when 3 prominent historical youtubers corrected him he never replied to any criticisms, corrected himself or even acknowledged his errors.

He started covering games he doesn't care about
Notice how a number of earlier videos brought up his top 10 favorite vidyas while Undertale got one right while the game was hot?
Guy seems to hate FNAF and act openly tsun about it in videos, yet half of his channel is FNAF content.
Thing is though, he was never "pure", because even early videos had really clickbaity titles, thumbnails, and subjects. The only difference is that his Chrono trigger video actually covers interesting and possibly intentional biblical parallels, while Ness is Sans is just filled with logic leaps.

FNAF made MatPat realized that story driven theories made more views than silly analytical theories. The SCIENCE... of ___ series caught my attention my attention because it reminds me a lot of early game theories.

Did anyone think his recent video on Petscop was the biggest hypemachine he's every done. I watched the whole thing and generally didn't think any of it was terrifying.I went and watched the original Petscop videos (20,000 views or so) and they aren't fucking scary! Its like the most obvious fake ever and the dudes delivery when things happened were complete shit yet everyone on game theory is jerking over "2SPOOPY4ME".


Petscop is nothing like Ben Drowned which generally gave me fucking nightmares when it first came out. Theres no more good videogame creepypasta and hes just milking a stone at this point for money

Fnaf was the clear shift in content.

While it wasn't bad at first, and I feel that he did put effort into them it pushed him into the less "scientific" theories.

Which due to the response he got along with the less effort that he had to put into them, made him start hitting them hard.

Slowly quality deteriorated, as I assume he started to lose the will to put alot of time into them as people would still watch them even if he didn't.

Then the Sans is Ness video hit, and while it wasn't terrible, the response he had to Toby who straight up said he was wrong really pulled the curtain aside for most of his viewers.

He thought his theories were fact, and couldn't take any negative response to them.

And thus people got this negative vibe from him that they couldn't shake, for those that still kinda respected him the Overwatch Vs. TF2 video really cemented the deal.

It showed very clearly how little he cared about doing his research and he really couldn't rely on any "theory" bullshit on it.

That coupled with the Ness response video just show how much he fell from grace.

Now he relies on click bait and rehashing other people's theories.

We had high hopes for a Vsauce like game theory channel, and instead got an almost leafyesque channel for theory videos.

Its kinda sad honestly.

This is his career now.

The one thing I don't get is all of the hate he got for giving the Pope a copy of Undertale. Gifts to the Pope are purely symbolic. The Pope doesn't give a fuck about 99% of the things that he gets. Yet everybody mocked him relentlessly as if he committed some cardinal sin.

The last "scientific" video he has done was the chicken nuggets one (how many nuggets to break your fall), which really is just a similar take on the Assassins Creed Video where they calculated if you could survive jumping into hay bails.

Really I would say the first downturns of him going of track were with mario theories. There was a stint there where he had out a lot of mario is evil videos. Soon after was Fnaf and Undertale. It just became easier to make theory videos than to back up science like the minecraft diamond armor worth.
