Not to defend the show blindly but these complaints really don't address anything other than "things that happen in Gumball happen in Gumball", like, do you expect them to go back on the Wattersons being terrible, trashy people? or Gumball to stop being a brat and create no conflicts ever?

I expect interesting episodes, no the same plots over and over. Gumball being an asshole and the Wattersons being terrible people are 2 of the reasons of the downhill in quality.

it's a similar set up but it seems to be a reversal where Carmen is actually the one initiating the feud.

even then, the show literally never had radically creative episodes in a constant basis, it's still a family based sitcom with mostly ironic meta humor, it's not a complain i could take seriously.

things that are actually wrong with gumball as is are flat, drawn out jokes(thankfully not a big problem due to the frantic runtime), contrieved and heavily underdeveloped set ups and transitions between scenes, very weak first acts, cringe/awkward based scripts.

the premises of the episodes aren't exactly the problem because the sheer fact they're rethreading a few ideas shows they're capable of doing those ideas right as well. I haven't looked into the writers for each episode but it's becoming clear they really rush some out while focusing most of the actual effort into a few each season.

Personally i thought The Saint was a pretty bad episode but The Nuissance sounds a lot better from that description alone. I'll wait to see if they manage to actually make a better job.

Sure it is, but more to the point, there is lore everywhere: the character's backstories are all consistent. Not only that, but the show makes reference quite commonly to past events in the show.

It's a relatively recent development in creator-driven Western cartoons to have a bit of a deeper story and consistency to their plot and characters (compare to most shows in the 90s and early 2000s, where at best, your consistency was a running-gag, and the deepest your show got regarding your characters was maybe an episode dedicated to backstory).

Gumball straddles the line, sometimes frustratingly, between being a show where there is no continuity between episodes, and being a show that has a continual world. A lot of its jokes tend to rely on the world being inconsequential (the Watterson's house/car/posessions get(s) destroyed every other episode, for example), and yet, past events are directly referenced by the main cast, and occasionally, even by the supporting cast. Whole chunks of a season can go by without characters that seem like they would be important (i.e. Penny) aren't even mentioned. Despite that, the supporting cast still has their backgrounds and their own minor character developments, which stay consistent throughout the show.

If you aren't satisfied with the show's continuity, lore, character development etc, it's probably because this show doesn't take that stuff seriously despite having it, which in-of-itself is probably a running-gag by the writers.

tl;dr the show prioritizes being a cartoon over being lore and character driven, despite it still having elements of the latter
