The double tapes are more of a safety precaution. If one gets loose then it still sort of works without coming off completely. I've had problems with one sided before when one side has come off and refuse to reattach itself again and I had to fix it with extra tape

I personally like the feeling of it, especially wearing more than one at a time to make it thicker. There's something comforting about being able to lounge around with thick white padding exposed down there. It helped relieve huge amounts of stress after a work week.
