The comics have ups and down, but I will tell you this; If you have any kind of interest in the Sonic characters, then yes it is worth picking them up. There is enough good content and fan service for just about every character in the franchises history, that you will find something for you.

Generally there's two methods to approach the comics;

This: >>10287897 which is reading as much as you can from the beginning.

Pros:
>You will get to read it all
>A lot more interesting and wacky plots
>Adaptations of the stories of the games, incorporating comic and SatAM lore

Cons:

Alternatively, you can start at Worlds Collide and just continue from there. This was the start of the soft reboot, which quietly brushes a lot of the old lore and characters under the rug and continues with Ian Flynn delivering some pretty high quality stories for the rest of the series.

Things worth noting:
>Sonic Universe is a spin-off focusing on the side-characters. It's usually pretty high quality, I prefer it to the main comic. Read this from the start.
>If you don't want to read pre-reboot Sonic Universe, at least pick up Sonic Comics Spectacular; It has some of the best issues collected, including Treasure Team Tango (my favorite)
>You should pick up the Sonic Comic Encyclopedia. It fills you in on pretty much everything up until the reboot, so you can skip ahead without feeling like you missed out.
