I went to Hascon yesterday and picked up pic related, and I'm building a casual deck around it, and if you read the text that means I need a transformer.

If you're not familiar with magic, I'd need to be able to transform it quickly (30sec max probably). I want it to actually BE grimlock to match the card, and it'd have to be medium-small to fit in my gaming bag.

Do you guys have any recommendations? does something like mini-versions of G1 transformers exist? Id love to not spend a fuckton either

I honestly despise the sense of entitlement in the fandom but I don't think you need to coddle them just because toy production is hard.
When they put the dinobots in the movie they weren't characters but attack dogs and scenery, when they changed the movie aesthetics they also made pretty much every design impossible to transform without outright cheating instead of what most fans expected like more chunky designs, when they did combiners they made really stupid mistakes like the pointless automorph in PCC that robbed the combined forms of articulation or the weirdly gimped combiners on Energon.

If they are going to try, lmao, they could at least stop making these really expensive jabs at the fandom's taste. Fans like the Dinobots but they want them to be treated with some respect, fans like combiners and will buy them even if they are crap and don't actually like them, fans wanted to like the movies at some point.

The leader gimmick just doesn't work, none of the characters so far transformed the way the line presents it, Orion wasn't transformed by the matrix, he was upgraded to op by Alpha trion and then given the matrix afterwards, he couldn't turn back into orion and he wasn't formed of the trailer as well, same with Rodimus, he wasn't formed of his trailer, but i'd say he's the closest to what the gimmick is trying to achieve. Doesn't work for primal either since he was in his transmetal body when he interacted with the matrix and kept it once he gave the "matrix spark" back.

There's one guy that I can think of where this gimmick could work, and that's Star Saber. Have the brainmaster be a "prime" that you insert into Saber (they could act like its a super pretender disguise) who can then be inserted into Star Saber. It'd be perfect and that's exactly why they won't do it.

What are other characters that the gimmick could work for? I'd be curious to see what designs they came up with for the other potp vote contenders. Powermaster op would've been perfect too had they not rushed the gun, idiots.

The 'real gear' line is great. This guy has articulated pincer hands and some of the best light piping for his eyes.

Camera is a bit small to be real, but the lens and viewfinder are impressively real-looking and the button on top clicks.

As for MP Laser Prime, you should look into the 3P one from Fans Hobby. It's a bit clunky, but that's kind of the nature of the character. You can get him for around 100 bucks, which is pretty cheap for how much plastic he is. I caved and bought him because Takara is never going to make an MP version of Laser Prime.

Backpack really isn't much of an issue. It's kind of the nature of the mold. It does make it a bit unwieldy, but it stands and poses just fine. I have a feeling that if Takara did it, they would probably be able to come up with some clever design that compacts the arms and the truck cab to make the figure less clunky in both modes, and generally make the whole thing more elegant, but I just don't see that day in the near future. Besides, Gunfighter actually has unpainted gray plastic that looks GOOD. It's fucking mindblowing why Takara and Hasbro can't sort this shit out.

Asking for something only to be given something half-assed doesn't mean we have to be silent about it. Even if Hasbro/Takara dropped the ball in spots, at LEAST third parties offer fixes to issues that they are made aware of, thanks to the complaints being spoken about at all. It isn't ideal, but it is SOMETHING.

Except even that is becoming untrue. MPs have been cripplingly cartoon-accurate for the past year or two and is causing prices and complexity to rise. 3Ps are a wildcard. They can hit it out of the park sometimes, but other times they pander just as much to G1 shit. Like right now, there are THREE nearly identical MP-scale G1 Cosmos figures out from three different companies, and they're all ugly, because G1 Cosmos is fucking ugly. For what fucking purpose? I won't even get started on Maketoys Not-Starscream travesty.

The problem is that so many G1 collectors don't really want cool toys. They just want to complete their collection, which is the biggest reason 3Ps exist. To them, each character is just a checkbox on a long list of the G1 cartoon cast, and they want to be able to have all of them on a shelf together. This was the entire genesis of the 3P industry, to hurry up and make the figures that Hasbro/Takara were taking too long to do, just so that collectors could say "I own that character".

So yeah, that's the problem with the franchise. The majority of the money-spending fanbase doesn't actually want good toys. They want a complete cast.

Just like the 3p megatron situation, even now many more mp megatrons are coming, those cosmo look the same as they're all trying to do the same thing, its brand names that get people to go in that direction

I do admit my goal was the entire s1 cast but back long ago I hated the thought of having mp inferno, bumblebee and even fucking soundwave, now I got them, their redeco's and retools.

Worst part was I bought them because I only intended to buy optimus, megatron, galvatron and rodimus, now look at me, hunting down clampdown for regular mp prices, let alone the seeker variations.

Its addiction, pure and simple, and in my case I'm starting to collect variations, I'm gonna own both leader sixshots for fucks sake because I can part with either

Which is an absolute shame. One of those Cosmos should have been an IDW-styled one, or an Animated one. They're so damn similar it's a waste. The glut of Geewun pandering is making this entire fandom a total snoozefest.

Many would just sell their regretful purchases for the one they REALLY want later on, when mp36 came out the amount of 3p megatrons on ebay went up, so...why release their so close to each other.

Hasbro literally had NOTHING to do with movie aesthetics. Bay and co. hired concept artists to make characters and Hasbro and Tomy did the best they could to make toys work with that trash. And when the aesthetic changed the toys got worse. Seriously.
