Also fuck Hasbro for not revealing this shit beforehand.

I bought the 5poa Luke BECAUSE I didn't think we were getting a good figure. We still don't have an articulated old Han!

And fuck 'em again because these figures showed up quicker than lightning, but I STILL can't get a 3inch Scariff trooper!

Also these wouldn't ring up. I went through 5 motherfucking women of varying Walmart heirarchy before someone had to type them into the system after seeing all the Finn pegwarmersto sell them to me.

Also, also, I hate these new movies but I like having the old OT crew...and I'm a sucker for that executioner axe.
>>
I got my mafex RO vader.

Definitely my favorite vader. Really a step up.
>>
>>6516201

>>
>>6516193
As someone who's been out of the 3 3/4"" loop for some time now, is there any rhyme or reason to which figures get better articulation? Is everything in the Black Series as articulated as old Luke there, or is it hit and miss?
>>
>>6516161
>Go to walmart on 2am Friday but they haven't put out any of the new stuff
>Go two days later and they've got the cutout displays and most of the new vehicles and such
>No new black series, as the pegs are still full of Finn, Jyn, Cassian, and unmasked Kylo
I hate hasbro so goddamn much

It's like potery.

Can someone explain to me why kids don't want figures of Dopey Black Man or Butch Asian Lady?
>>
>>6516269
Honestly, I probably would have gotten Finn if he wasn't such a shitty looking figure in general.
>>
>>6516161
Your ROTJ Luke looks disturbingly like Rey
>>
Does anyone here have the Grievous model kit? I'm desperate for a 1/12 Grievous and thinking about going for him, but I don't have tons of experience with kits. I'm not worried about the construction aspect, I'm just worried about how good he'd look without being painted or anything at the end.
>>
>>6516264
Vader is black, R2 is blue
I going to pegwarm here with you
>>
>>6516201
Do you have their first one? That's what I went with a while ago, and he's not amazing or anything, but I don't really feel like upgrading either.
>>
>>6516161
There's sincerely not much I care for since I've never been much of a 6" scale fan.

I will gladly get a good, articulated 3.75" old Luke should we ever get one, though.

>>6516309
Thats a Mafex Boba Fett, by far the best 6 inch version of Fett.
>>
>>6516314
Well my uncle is an expert with models and owns his own model company as a hobby, so I'm sure he'd help me with it if I really wanted to go all out on it. I'm more just curious as to how good it looks without any extra cash or effort put in. If it looks solid without all that I'd go for it, but if I have to really put some work into it I think I'd rather hold out and hope for the figuarts to come out some day.

I would just google it, but it doesn't seem like a lot of people have put up their own images of it.

>>
>>6516330
Yeah, had no idea this was a thing. My Walmart is pretty shit, but I'll keep an eye out.
>>
>>6516287
No, but I've seen him enough to know that this is still a good step up.

I do have a complaint though now.

The shoulder armor is just rubber attached to the top piece of chest armor, and this was a big mistake. It makes it look bad when posed with his arms forward.

I'll try to take some pics later.
>>
>>6516330
The fact that this is nearly indistinguishable from the 6 inch one just goes to show how bad they've gotten
>>
>>6516335
>The shoulder armor is just rubber attached to the top piece of chest armor
That's how the first one did it too. It looks bad in some poses but it's not even close to bugging me. Honestly, my beefs with the old one were wobbly hips and torso joints, bad tolerences on the wrist pegs (hands not staying on properly), and shitty range on the neck. Is that last one improved, at least?
>>
>>6516340
vader can't really look down (super common due to the helmet sculpt), but he can look up decently.

Wrists on mine are fine, but I won't ever say mafex fixed their wrists entirely. My phasma's wrist joint exploded out of the box.
>>

If they're going to continue on this path, they should at least include an accessory that people will want, like a droid, a weapons rack, an accessory that pairs well with a character that people actually want, or even some fucking floor panels.

I mean, they promise that but everyone knows it isn't true.

She'll probably wind up just being an engineering genius/comedy relief to run off scenes with fin and then that's it. They are just pushing her for the diversity angle anyway.

They shouldn't be pushing new characters anyway when they didn't even utilize the ones they had in the last movie properly.

There's no problem with wanting to push diversity etc.

The problem is that Rose is unattractive, even by Asian standards.

She looks like the short dopey girl from school who grows up to be some nobody in management and goes home to become the neighborhood cat lady.

This is the equivalent of pushing Porkins merch before he became a cult favorite. Visually he's just the fat X-wing loser.

But at least Porkins wears a cool pilot jumpsuit.

At least Zuvio is an interesting lookinh alien.

Who the hell thought a dumpy asian woman in a vomit brown signature look has any kind of merchandise potential needs to be fired.

There are modern minority content creators but they aren't conglomerating and working together like the successful groups before wound up doing. They aren't giving it the same shot that the other creators in the past did. They are scattered, independent, and a lot of the most talented ones are just spinning their wheels at the bigger publishers just churning out monthlies.

That's not the same work the guys who created these characters did back in the 30's through 60s, and it's not reasonably how any of these people can expect to create similar properties.
>>
>>6517176
Yeah, I sort of talked about this earlier in the thread. It's tough. It's a one-two punch of trying to find similar-minded minority creators to group with, and the industry simply not being as open to the kind of free-wheeling creation that happened in the early days of the comic book and film industries. Things are much more heavily regulated now, and you need to either be pretty well connected, or land a viral hit and have a lot of luck to get a shot at the big time.

I am in that exact boat right now. I'm a minority creator who is certainly OPEN to the idea of conglomerating, but I just haven't met too many others, much less others who happen to be into the same stuff I am.
>>
>>6517198
>Things are much more heavily regulated now,
What? That's not even close to being a truthful statement.

Publishing and content distribution is more open now than at any point in the industry's existence, and there's no longer any regulatory body like the CCA to curate and control content.
>>
>>6517200
Man, I don't know where you're getting your facts from, but mine come from cold hard experience. I've been trying to break into that industry for a while, and so have a bunch of my other friends from art school. Some of us are doing grunt work on monthlies, but original pitches are pretty fucking tough to push through.
>>
>>6517205
You live in the largest self publishing and indie comics boom in the industries history.

Unless your dream is to work on batman, you have more options to get your work out there than at any other point, and you have big publishers like Image literally trawling the depths for talent from unknowns.

As for regulation, you have literally none.

I'm putting together a custom Captain Fordo using parts scavenged from other figures.

Still need to find a donor for the helmet antenna piece and add some red trim to the cloth. The pauldron piece could do with a coat of paint too.

What's the chances of us getting 6 inch Black Series Arc troopers? I'd buy whole squads of them.
>>

I didn't know they made a black series fig of her. I bought her 5 POA on Force friday. I'll have to get this one too.

Sabine's helmet has an antenna you could possibly use, it might be too small though.
Or just wait for Rex.

Arc troopers would be cool and I think it's possible one day but not in the next year. The cost to make them would kill Hasbro so that's why I think it's not really on the to do list.

But we've got a pack including Shadow Royal Guards so anything is possible.

40th anni is one of the best, pick it up. But not the $30 set, just get the single card Vader.
>>

It seems like the Mafex is the best one, but that's just judging from what I've seen online. I didn't really want a high end one, so I just got the one in the new Last Jedi wave. Torso and head range is limited, but otherwise he's pretty fucking good for twenty bucks. Don't know how he measures up to the anniversary, but you might be able to find the anniversary on clearance at Walmart.

Black series 40th anniversary Vader. Hands down, best Vader period.

>>
>>6516239
Black Series is basically VTC style figures of new movie shit + re-releases of old VTC figures with sloppier paintjobs. The articulation seems to always bee balljoints out the ass except for the few figures that they sold as VTC with swivel joints like TESB Lando and Tusken Raider.
But they are rather random with costumes of new stuff in BS. E7 Han and Leia are Wintercoat and blue dress, costumes they wore for like 3 minutes each. I think their reasoning was that there will eventually be normal E7 versions of them due to the VTC line.

Newest wave is just Rose, E7 Luke, Praetorian Guard with normal round head and Executioner Stormtrooper.
VTC line is getting renewed next autumn by re-packing Black Series 3 inch figures and throwing in some new stuff.

This is asked a lot. For Amy building, most people would say stick with the black series, since they just re release the Stormtrooper. Model kit is another option to if you want to build a custom or enjoy that kind of thing.

The S.H. Figuarts might be the best Stormtrooper (Rogue One) but it's not very cheap.

Model kit for 20$ which looks better than the Habsro figs anyway
Bootlegs of Hasbros fig are like 12$ on Aliexpress if you can't find the official. I don't have one but I have a clone trooper and aside from the shoulder pads not wanting to go into the torso when using the shoulder balljoint it's the same as the original.

Yeap, pretty bad indeed. All Luke figures from TLJ they released are awful, I think even the Hot Toys one will be shit

I painted his eyes. Looks much better with the full red. Kinda hard to do, though, given the size.

Anyone have any old sculpts they particularly like?

This scout from POTJ is SO damn good. This pic doesn't give a very good view of the helmet unfortunately, but I personally find just everything about this particular sculpt to be so flawless. I prefer it to the vintage collection scout trooper honestly.
>>
>>6521183
I second this.
>>
>>6521609
Truthfully the old Ree Yees and Pote Snitkin were damn good figures back in the day, and still are today.
>>
>>6516272
I don't understand why they didn't just package him with a lightsaber. IT WAS ON THE FUCKING POSTER, IT WASN'T A SPOILER. You could have sold at least half as many of those pegwarmers if they had a lightsaber and it would have cost all of 2 cents extra.
>>
>>6521692
Maybe they think Luke is the only TLJ figure that won't pegwarm, so they're double dipping on him in order to make up for the loss of sales they're going to get with the other figures.
>>
>>6521705
No question they'll double dip. It's almost a given.

>>

Not that anon but thank god. Maybe now I can actually buy some 3 3/4 figures of the ST that aren't shit. Feels like it's been a long time since I got any.

He's saying that most of the figures we've had confirmed for the first TVC wave are just repackaged Walmart exclusive 3.75" Black Series figures.

I bought the Ewok Chair 3PO from like 2006 because I wanted the chair and some part of me will always love a chromed out toy of 3PO instead of the dull painted crap Hasbro has been doing lately.

My dream toyline is a full remake of the 1977 inaccurate designed SW Kenner figs with modern sculpt and articulation. Never gonna happen though.

Lots of droids are perfectly fine too since a lot of them have unconventional designs and don't always need max articulation

To be fair I would have re-bought Rey if they had redone her lower arms to have bare hands

They look like Vader's long lost relatives, which is actually pretty cool now that I think of it design-wise.

It's not black. His robes are all gold, what you're seeing is lighting in an attempt to hide the real colors.
>>
>>6522028
Thank god Hasbro is moving onto faceprinting, the globby paint apps almost always made them look like retard cartoon versions of the characters. I would hope they'd revisit previously released characters every now and then so they can actually do justice to the great sculpts.

Hasbro is still using paint/tampos, on top of using face prints, unlike the Figuarts whose faces look so fuzzy and low resolution on mushily sculpted heads.
>>
>>6522130
Reposting for clarification:
I don't care about whatever Figuarts does because I don't even collect them. I'm just saying the old method Hasbro used made them look like retarded cartoons whereas the addition of faceprinting actually fixes that and finally does justice to their good sculpts.

Why are you so obsessed with arguing about Figuarts? It's hardly even relevant to me pointing out Hasbro's outdated paint apps and how they're making an effort to improve on them.

Why does the 3.75 one look significantly better?
>>
>>6522277
I think it's because the 6" is layered/double-sided which makes it look more puffed out whereas the 3 3/4 only has one layer of cloth so it hugs his body better (the material also looks thinner).
>>
>>6522157
>Why are you so obsessed with arguing about Figuarts?
Because someone is wrong on the internet, especially someone such as yourself who can't read, thinking it's about hte Figuarts.

You think Hasbro gave up on traditional paint apps, but they're still using them in conjunction with the dots.
Based on their MLs, they're not even doing what the Figuarts are doing.
It's not a replacement for actual paint apps, but used for highlights and other minor details.

Take a close look at that Han Solo and Obi Wan. The lips, eyes, the eyebrows, etc all show the plastic underneath, because it's a low resolution print job. Only the whites of the eyes are painted.
Vs this where the eyes are fully painted, whites, browns, and then print is for added details of greens. Shadowing is done with only the dots. The eyebrows are fully painted white, with brown and grays dots. The fully painted lips are pink and the dots are red.

What Hasbro is doing is actually more expensive, since that's spray masks + tampo + prints.
It gives their already God-tier sculpts a really nice boost in looking more natural.
>>
>>6522379
>What Hasbro is doing is actually more expensive, since that's spray masks + tampo + prints.
>It gives their already God-tier sculpts a really nice boost in looking more natural.
And this proves me wrong how? It's literally the same point I made with more fluff and dressings. Do you get off of spewing more info?

>You think Hasbro gave up on traditional paint apps, but they're still using them in conjunction with the dots.
Read again jackass. I just said they're dropping the dorky cartoon look they always gave their figures and making them more realistic by finally using faceprinting. But nah, all you got out of that was "nuh uh, they STILL use paint unlike the dastardly Figuarts so it's better!" when it was well beside the point I was making where they're basically improving their own paint apps.

>Because someone is wrong on the internet
Oh I get it, you're one of those autists where everyone's wrong for not mentioning that one little detail that only "you" noticed, even when we obviously agree on the same point.
>>
>>6522404
>And this proves me wrong how?
Uh, the fact that they haven't moved on like you claim?
The fact that there's a pretty big difference in the paint applications?
The fact that it looks different?
The fact that you think they're dropping the "cartoon" look shows how blind you are. There was never a cartoon look, because the sculpt itself had all the detail that always had them look realistic.
Nevermind that they're still using the same paint applications, just with shading and highlights added on. Again, nothing was dropped.

You're ignoring important points and trying to fuzz them over because someone dared point out you're wrong and are only just trying to save face on an anonymous message board on the internet.
The fact that you're trying to bring up Figuarts just shows what you're really upset about.
>>
>>6522120
And you're wrong, as photos already show the gold robe.

I said they dropped the RETARDED CARTOON LOOK of the paint apps, not paint apps altogether you illiterate fuckwit.

>There was never a cartoon look
You ever heard of hyperbole? I ask because you sound like a real case of a person with autism with how you genuinely took my words so literally that you'd base your entire argument based on this one point. Let me spell it out for you kid: no fucking shit I know it's not intentional on Hasbro's part, but the fact that it comes across as cartoonish on the finished product is what's so laughable about it and why I even described it as such. You disagree with that? Well boo-fucking-hoo, have a cry in the corner.

>The fact that you're trying to bring up Figuarts just shows what you're really upset about.
You mad bro? I never once mentioned Figuarts in my original post yet someone (You) started whining to me about it ad nauseum. Stay mad on that "fact" bro.

>You're ignoring important points and trying to fuzz them over because someone dared point out you're wrong and are only just trying to save face on an anonymous message board on the internet.
It's hilarious how blind you are to the irony of this entire sentence especially when that's all you've been doing with each new post. The amount of self-projection is strong with this one. Oh, don't bother responding since I won't even read it and I'm moving onto the new thread. But hey, I hope you enjoyed having someone shove your shit in with how factually wrong you are with your autism. The best part? You actually read most if not all of it.

Gonna advertise to everyone, tell 'em where to form the line. Gonna build him some bionic robot limbs. Gonna code an electronic voice for him. So when the people come to glance him, he'll be singing songs and dancin'.

All right, all right.

>they dropped the RETARDED CARTOON LOOK of the paint app
Dude, you have some serious reading comprehension problems.
I'm surprised you can even type out your paragraphs.
ALL THAT PAINT IS STILL THERE, ITS THE UNDER LAYER WITH THE PRINT DETAILS ONTOP.

> it comes across as cartoonish on the finished product
See, I'd believe your hyperbole comment, if not that this makes you sound like someone who only looks at images online because you can't be arsed to leave your room to see anything in person.

>started whining to me
It was compared to the Figuarts. I brought up how the paint jobs differ. That's it.
Yet you try to make it out to be something else. Maybe it's just your shitty comprehension skills that makes you sound like a fanboy, but it same noise either way.

>The amount of self-projection
That implies I'm stating anything false about the paint jobs and making bullshit claims like you.
You can conjecture all you want, but the fact remains there's a lot of clear differences in how the paint is handled, which has a totally different effect in the toys appearances.

That does look pretty nice, are there any other cool chairs like this I could stick my Thrawn in?
>>
>>6527268

There's another Star Trek one from Enterprise also done by Art Asylum or DST that comes in a pack with Riker and Mezco has a TOS chair coming out eventually.

Otherwise you can test your luck with 3D printed ones, but they'll be more expensive and you want to be 100% sure of the size being right.
