I recently re-discovered the Dinozaurs/Dinosoldiers toy line thanks to this board.
I'm still trying to figure out this series of transforming insect-based robot action figures, probably Japanese. Any help?
Hints: It may have been based on an anime series. I remember there being a praying mantis robot and a beetle robot, that had these wings that opened up/were translucent.

Holy shit it kills me that I know what you're talking about yet don't know the name either.

You talking about BW Manterror? Or retro like Beetras?

Maybe I'll post a picture of him later, but I have this old blue Power Ranger type action figure around 6 inches tall. He looks like he could maybe roll into a ball, but I'm either super autistic, it doesn't work, or he's missing pieces, because I have no idea how to do it. Help would be appreciated, I've had him since I was 5.

nope

>>6500083
It was around the year 2000, it was in a box that had a clear front through which you could see what was inside.

>>6500264
I already found the dinozaurs, just looking for the insect robots. Pretty sure the hercules beetle robot was the main character/team leader.
I don't know if it's the result of my memory being tainted/me getting a fake one , but I thought that the shadow tyranno that I had as a kid had transparent teal and chrome, not trans-purple and chrome,

>>6500346
checked both, naw

The mantis robot had these mirror chrome blades as weapons, not a flat metallic silver.

This is also one of the things that bugged (heh) me for a while, i found this blogpost detailing them a decently, but i swear that the post is missing stuff, apparently the molds had been released multiple times over multiple lines and distributors, no idea where the molds originated from, the one i'm most interested in is a sortof red dragonfly robot, i have some pictures i've dug up i can post in a little bit

You can get a KO of this at dollar stores sometimes. It comes with three other insect transformers, however the KO molds are missing some of the articulation of the originals (such as elbows and ankles). I wish I knew the origin, too. I've seen them on Japanese sites and I'm pretty sure the original manufacturer was one of the obscure, sleazy, train station toy companies.

This is the very I've regularly seen at discount stores:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quick-Change-Insect-Robots-Transformer-/162608381631

There's a review here:

http://www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/abs/quick_change_insect_robots

Comparing the pictures in the review to the pictures you posted, it appears that the dollar store version is not the same mold at all (although the pictures on the packaging are of the normal articulated version). The dollar store toy is probably an over-sized version of the simplified candy toy model which I've seen on Japanese websites.

If you look up Quick Change Insect Robots, you'll find both red/silver version and a blue/silver version. All the prices are a ripoff. All four of the Quick Change Insect Robots are unadulterated garbage. Do not pay more than $5-$10 or you will be massively disappointed and they're probably not even worth that.

Fuck...these might be it...
The way the mantis robot's weapons fit into his hands matches my memory, but it still seems a bit off-there's no way that the hercules beetle with the extending wings under the wing shell and his status as the 'team leader' and flagship model of the supposed anime series would be completely omitted. Am confused.

Gahhh...so close, but so far. The mantis is pic related definitely looks like what I can remember (again, this IS a memory more that is older than 17 years, so there's room for inaccuracies)-I definitely remember thinking that the placement of the scythes was awkward, breaking it off in the process, and I think I remember the sword.

I guess there is a possibility that whatever I had was a knockoff because I got it at a Korean street market. The intricate wing storage/unfolding translucent wing system, and the fact that I saw a kid wearing clothes that had the robots that I got (beetle, mantis, and every other one) in a group-shot which matched the toys meant that
1) It was probably based off of an anime
2) If not, was prominent enough to have the robots be featured in cartoon form on apparrel

Fuck dude, thank you so much for this link. My mom bought me two of these, on this exact cardback, when I was a little kid. I remember the toys really distinctly but never knew where they came from or who made them. Reading this article brought back a warm rush of nostalgia. And it made me think about my mom and all the little nice things she would do for me, and miss her cause she passed away a few years ago.

I can assure you that there are knockoffs. Pic related, I own those since forever and they look like crappier versions of the same designs.

It's been more than a decade since the last time I looked at them, so I laughed my ass off when I noticed for the first time that the mantis robot body and head are rip-offs of the Hyaku Shiki from Z Gundam.

By the way, I had this thing stored with those two bugs and I've been wanting to ask about it for a while, so I guess this is the perfect chance for it. As you can see it's a spaceship that turns into arms. Most probably a knockoff, roughly 20 years old I guess. I've always been curious about how the complete robot looked. Any clues?

Sorry to hear that, Anon. Sounds like she was a great lady. If anything, pay it forward-be the cool adult that get awesome, memorable toys for the young'ns.

Had a similar thought when I got a Goldran dragon as a kid, and thinking that the face looked a lot like the basic gundam face with the red mouthpiece/chin.

Then realizing 17 years later that Goldran was from Bandai.
>>
>>6504094
>Goldran was from Bandai

But that's wrong, Goldran is Takara like all the original Brave toys.
>>
>>6504098
Congrats, you stickler for details.

I meant Sunrise and Shinji Takamatsu, that made all the Gundam series.
>>
>>6504103
>I meant Sunrise and Shinji Takamatsu, that made all the Gundam series.

Goldran has a Gundam style face because it was designed by Kunio Okawara, not because Shinji Takamatsu was the directorof the show.

I really liked Dinozaurs, too bad they fell apart just by looking at them. I was a bit keen to collect the evil counterparts to most of the main guys for a hot second. The two big bad guys were kinda cool.

Fucking nostalgia'd. I had that one & the silver dragon, such bad ass designs, metallic & translucent is a winning combo for sure. But yeah, wow, they were complete shit. What a shame, absolutely brilliant in appearance, but so awful quality-wise. You couldn't really play with them.

Had these show up in a random box of stuff I got, can't figure out what the hell they are, other than that the rightmost two are the same thing, just one has stickers and one doesn't.

Anyone recognize them? Seems transformers-y, but it was a box of Power Ranger stuff, so unsure.

Wasnt this an ebay auction recently? In any case zennon is missing the drill tanks that become the hips and thighs. As well as the cannons for the legs.

Drago is missing the other arm, shoulder pad, both legs and main ship body.

Superhuman samurai (gridman in japan) was a fun toy line.
>>
Could anyone help me identify this figure? I know its an AJ Styles from the TNA toy line but I can't find a similar one anywhere on the internet
