I don't mind a lack of detail so much as I mind when things look doughy.

It's hard to explain. MP36, MP39, Howling Meteor (that 3P starscream) all look really doughy to me. MP Inferno has pretty much the same amount of plain surfaces and missing vehicle details as them, but it doesn't bother me because he doesn't look doughy.

Because objective stuff is universal. Nobody wants a toy that has loose, floppy joints. That's objective. Everybody want's a good color scheme and paintwork that makes the figure feel alive. That's objective.

Now, some people can look at CW and say "Well, I can see that they limited themselves on the engineering. It's clear that meeting the objective of a linewide combiner gimmick meant certain compromises had to be made." The subjective question is, are the trade offs for those compromises in playability, nostalgia, fun factor, or novelty worth it for you as a collector.

Brainstorm came in the mail yesterday and he looks great. The only other TR i have is Broadside and Brainstorm looks a whole lot better. Especially the head. Transformation is pretty simple but it's fun and i keep flipping between modes. I think I'm gonna get Triggerhappy due to all the praise he's gotten and then be done with TR.

Who's the better shitty Hun-Grr?

Playing with the CW Protectobots, I'm really loving Rook, First Aid, and Streetwise. Street's like a more solid version of TR Getaway/Chromedome, and I love First Aid's face and vehicle design. Also a battle axe is a cool weapon for a medic. He's one of the only one of the Defensor group whose hand-foot-weapon actually looks like it goes with his vehicle mode properly. And Rook's vehicle mode is great, it just looks so solid and tough, all these intricate little lines on it. Makes it worth having such a bulky backpack and those weird cannon-fists.

Hot Spot looks cool but his legs really make it hard for me to love him. Those ratchet joints are awkward as hell. Love his face and love the tampograph details.

Blades is a solid helicopter but having to fold the blades up behind him in robot mode is a little awkward, and the nose of the copter doesn't really like to hold together - it sticks together alright but you can tell it strains a bit. Still a cool dude.

Armada Megatron should've been the primary tooling since no one would've really cared about G1 Megs' "inaccuracies" as long as the turret was removable and re-mountable onto the arm. Instead we got an okay G1 Megatron that doesn't really scale with Classics OR appeal to the IDW crowd, and a non-update Armada Megatron throwback that doesn't really work on any level.

I actually like the fact it's a meld of Armada Megatron and G1 Megatron, but I understand your point now. Still, it is nice they even borrowed from the design at all.

On its own terms, I think the Armada retool looks cool.
