depends on the parts, the pauldrons are actually styrene sheet cut into shape that I then layered green stuff on top of, and the knee pad parts utilize some of the original armor that connected to that point. The chest plate is pure green stuff, the thinner parts have enough flexibility to allow it to be pressed more flush with the body, and the cloth is also obviously very thin green stuff with a fairly great deal of flexibility.

my only obstruction thus far is Jinrai's head, the mech parts on the back of the head cause some obstruction with the pauldrons so now I am attempting to forge a new neck piece adapter to allow a MD head to take the place. If that works it also means I can bulk up armor stuff around there more to make it more accurate to the references.

What grain did you sand them with? I recommend giving them a good sanding with sandpaper +1200 (you can find it at any hardware store), it should leave it smooth and without texture.
Now you may have an issue with white marks where the nubs used to be, that's due to the cutting and can't be fixed by mechanical means.
If you have already painted everything but the body I would recommend painting it too so you don't get different colors between painted and unpainted parts.

I meant the exposed skin, I did paint the mecha parts on the body. I sanded the nubs with sandpaper and now the places where I did that are not glossy and there're still some barely noticeable traces of those nubs but they can be seen only if you look closely. I can't even get them on camera...

Tons. Gourai and Stylet are the two earliest kits and as such they have a bunch of problems that Materia and everything afterward doesn't. Compared to them, Baselard has better wrists that can actually hold up the weight of a gun, no skirt so she can actually move her thighs up past 45 degrees, a more secure upper-lower torso connection, actual (if tiny) breasts, and much more equipment.

As with the previous even-numbered chapters of Sayuri, good tiny robot girls shouldn't read this one. This one covers icky human girl sex, so that warning goes double. I've switched viewpoint characters for this chapter and probably the next one before returning to Sayuri's perspective. Ayane's meant to be a more sour character, so I attempted to be less flowery with the language in this one.

If you are placing them correctly the overall shape shouldn't be much of a problem, decal solutions are mostly to help the decal to shape into the small details (panel lines on planes for example), but if you are having problem they would be you.
The most popular is the Micro Sol and Micro Set combo, which works wonders if you can find them, that said all the local hobby stores should have some kind of decal softener.

Unrelated, but how do you use the decals? I used to dip them in water until the decal could be pushed out of the paper using a brush. Later I learned that the idea is to dip the decal in water for ~10 seconds and let it rest over some paper towel for about a minute, the decal separates just as always but it seems to retain more of the adhesive that way. I use decal softener on all my decals as well.

I was messing around with my shinki and I realized I really miss that metal and screw aesthetic for some reason, and it made me wonder: Why aren't there any model/figure kits with screws? Like just have all the parts for the figure in a box and just screw them together. I mean it's geared towards an older audience anyway so I don't think it would be that hard. You could still save on manufacturing costs a lot, and you'd end up with a much more durable figure/model.

Older Gundams used to come with screws. They weren't that fun and they always made me paranoid that I'd strip the tiny things or screw them in too tight and put too much tension on the plastic. I never ending up doing so, but I'm sure there are people out there who have. Anyway, if you really desire that aesthetic, look to garage kits...a lot of them use screw-together construction because like you said, it's relatively cheap and simple.
