Why are these praised among collectors? they look cheap

they were the best toys of the characters before Jakks Pacific and Bandai finally stepped in nearly decades later. Banpresto did an ok job inbetween too.

It just blows my mind how they go for over 100$ on Amazon and Ebay
I had a mario one stored away and put it aside temporarily. Dad finds it and bends the cardboard to compact it in a box.

i only remember seeing these in babbage's and sam goody. maybe that's why?

Ahhhhh had something similar happen with a collectable mario figure like pic related, mom shoved the entire package inside a cramped drawer in the garage destroying the cardboard and plastic to "store" it easier, it may not be the most valuable figure but I still stayed a bit salty since that day.

I liked it better when everyone had the same car and they were actually go-carts instead of a mix of like actual cars and motorcycles and hover things.

An articuulated figure with unique accessory and motorized cart which launches said accessory for under $10 was pretty amazing. The only misstep of the line is that they never finished it with Peach and Toad, yet gave us a second Mario.
The car is pretty good. I got it for free from a woman throwing away old toys

The karts

I had the donkey Kong, he was pretty cool
>>6466934
where did they even sell these back then?
>>6466934
Neat accessories, the karts were fun, and for a good while they were the best Mario figures around.
And of course they were cheap, they were what, 10$ at retail back in the 2000's?
Not really worth it now though, since between SHF and WoN the only thing from these sets you should go for are the karts loose, assuming they're in good condition.
Makes me wish toybiz did more video game stuff though.

It's the only time Wario got articulated legs that go up and down.

Eb Games, Sam Goodys, Suncoast and comic shops. Maybe KB Toys.
Video game figs weren't in high demand back then so the typical retailers didn't really carry this kind of stuff.

k-mart had them, that's how I got mine.
