Has anyone else ever seen these ASOBLOCK kits before? I found them in a museum gift shop, and they're excellent. Just put in an order online for more. Never had heard anyone else talk about them on here, nor anywhere else really.
>>
I saw them once at a barnes and nobles for about 30 dollars. I was super into them but I didn't have the money to get it. Completely forgot the name of the brand. Might look into now

I highly recommend it, I'm having way too much fun with them right now. High quality plastic, too. It's like Stikfas, but much nicer (and individual pieces instead of on sprues).

Ended up buying almost all the other available kits online.
>>
>>6464461
Might have to get them on amazon when I'm not broke, the set you have in the picture and the black set look like fun and the mecha sets will probably be right up my alley.
>>
I meant to pick some up when I saw them at a Japanese bookstore. People have made some really sweet mecha with them.

The white set (and I assume the black equivalent set) have a lot of bang for your buck. Enough to make four 'plain' guys, with a ton of extra pieces left over for more. Of course, you can just as easily make a couple specific custom builds with the pieces.

It's a great mix of LEGO/model kits and an action figure.

Yeah I looked it up when I was standing in the museum store, and saw some of them. I know I'm gushing all through this thread, but I'm quite impressed.
>>
Try glyos you idiots
>>
>>6464587
I actually have a few Glyos. I definitely like the concept, but being able to do a lot of posing was always big for me. Glyos always seemed just a bit stiff. But maybe I'm wrong -- I tend to check the general on occasion, but if there are any other resources, I'd love to see them.
>>
>>6464415
You're pretty new then. Asoblocks and Bowei are discussed every now and then.

I bought a couple of bags of knockoff Asoblock from eBay before I even knew about Asoblock. It's a bit more fiddly than I care for due to the ball joint connections. Also, it's abundantly clear that you need to amass an absurd quantity of parts in order to build anything remotely impressive.
>>
>>6464604
Basic figures are stiff, but they can become highly posable through building especially with their accessory sets like axis joints and swing joints!
>>
>>6464415
they look like Stikfas
>>
>>6464642
Even the pre-Hasbro Stikfas don't stand up to these, IMO. Even in terms of cost, the cheaper $15 kits come with enough parts to build 4 individual figures.

They're really great, the plastic quality is better than lego even. I like that there are really only 2 colors to build with so you can utilize all of your pieces at once.
>>
>>6464631
I'll take a look into more, then. I always looked at the drops when they happen, but the barrier to entry seemed high.

>>6464627
It is true that you need a lot of parts for things like those mechs, yeah. But I do quite like that even the basic $15 kits come with enough pieces to build 4 individual figures -- that's some pretty good value, especially if you plan to use external things (cloth and such) to customize.

>>6464763
Xevoz came and went without me ever getting them. If I had any, I'd check.

>>6465085
I agree. I saw they do have some color packs, but they're quite expensive. Having just the black and white makes it really easy to just focus on the model itself, without having to amass pieces of one specific color.
>>
>>6464415
I have a set of these and I love them, really interesting and fun

i am hearing color ones are very expensives (seen some red/blue/yellow) isn't there something like Robot-grey tone?
>>
>>6467719
Looks like the black and white sets are $25 for 164 pieces or $15 for 100 pieces. The 4 color set is $75-90 for 400 pieces. It's expensive but still breaks down to $20 for 100 pieces.

Personally I prefer that it's all black and white pieces, you don't have to worry about matching colors.
>>
>>6468689
I agree with you there - I've been able to be more creative with these than I generally am with LEGO because I hate the look of mottled structures. With the simple black/white, it's a lot easier to jump in.

Of course I have the creativity of a teaspoon so your mileage may vary. But it works for me.
>>
These things have been around for years, I must have 2000+ bits. They even do some in colors. Speaking as a collector of exotic building toys, they are one of the best and most fun to play with. I always keep a small tub of assorted pieces on my desk to fiddle with.

If you reach out to their customer service email, they are very friendly, and will even send you a PDF catalog so you can order exactly what sets you want directly from them.
>>
>>6469102
I may just do that. They're just a lot of fun to fiddle with, and you can end up with some neat little desk figures before you disassemble to make something new.
>>
Only complaint I have so far is the fact that it's likely going to be a bit difficult to make any sort of accessory for characters. Stikfas (and even Modibots) have a lot of options for weapons and such, whereas these are more about full-out models. Going to have to look more into it, I suppose.
>>
Know any places to buy them cheap on EU?

They were sold under the Bowei brand name when I bought them. I looked into buying some more a few years later, and they were being sold under the name Exdpa (no, that's not a typo). Not that you'll find listings for Exdpa anywhere. You have to search for "robot transformer" on eBay or AliExpress and sift through the results to find any KO Asoblock these days.

This thread got me feeling nostalgic. I made a couple of things.
>>
>>6487011
I'm guessing Exdpa ones are the same size and shape as Asoblock so they can be interchanged?

You would think so, and you would be partly correct. It turns out Expda parts are made at a slightly smaller scale than Bowei parts. The difference is enough to make the Exdpa ball connections loose when used with Bowei. Not loose enough to fall out, but loose enough to make posing difficult. Bowei ball connectors will work with Exdpa parts, and they will be super tight. It's not so much an issue now since they've pretty much stopped making Bowei sets I think. Anything that's still being sold is probably just old stock.
>>
>>6488993
Whoops, misread your question. I never got around to buying any legit Asoblock sets, so I can't comment on compatibility with KOs.

Looks like Exdpa/Bowei are impossible to find at a decent price and are straight up impossible to buy in my country but Asoblock on the other hand has a small distributor here who sells a number of b/w sets at a reasonable price.

The only question left is which set or two should I buy after I have money to spare. I was thinking about "robot creation 25mb" for a start. Any recommendations on other sets? I'd like to aim at being able to make something like pic related.
>>
>>6489088
For the most part asoblock sets are parts packs, and most of the parts are common to all sets in different amounts. Unless there's one part on the mech you posted that you really like, just buy 2-4 sets total and you'll have enough parts to build something of that scale.

They ARE all black and white unless you shell out $80-90 for the 4-color parts pack
>>
>>6489107
I'm fine with just white and black parts and I don't want to recreate that mech 1 to 1, just something along the lines of it. It's just that my budget is tight and I'll be able to afford only one 150 parts set or maybe two 70 parts sets for now and I have a hard time choosing which.
>>
so, around $100 for these sets is okay?

Dammmmn, this takes me back! In the early days of /toy/, way back in 2008 or so, Asoblock was like this mythical unicorn. None of us knew how to get ahold of it and IIRC distribution outside of Japan was nonexistent. Plus, in those early days we mostly weren't wise to stuff like YAJ or Rakuten, and I believe Mandarake wasn't serving international customers yet.

So we'd stare at the few Asoblock pics we had and pine for it as a community. It's nice to see that they're much easier to obtain these days. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, guys. I miss early /toy/.
