I agree. I like the MMC alt mode even if it isn't really accurate, but I cannot stand the robot mode. The chest and neck kill it.

MMC's looks like a generic robot that happens to have some Rodimus features slapped on it

I love everything about it except those hands. I wish he came with swappable fists or splayed hands. I get they're supposed to look relaxed, but they're too tightly curved to look natural. That and I don't know how they'll handle having the weapons put in them.
>>
>>6453758
>I haven't had any issues. Im not a fan of skull face. The shit he complains about is so petty sometimes.
I wouldn't call stress marks where the hood of the cab tabs into the legs "petty". It might just be a individual QC issue though. Have you checked your anon?

I'm glad SXS went for a better muted colour scheme rather than Ronald McDonald Hot Rod.

>>
>>6453816
The thing people are failing to realize about SXS is he's 7.7 inches tall which completely licks him out of a CHUG shelf. It sucks because his bot mode is by far better but he's more like MP scale so he doesn't fit with my primary collection where I want him to be.
>>
>>6454057

Uh...Voyagers are around 7-ish inches man. Thats also the size of most MMC stuff (unless their Notrod is smaller than their usual releases?). So this Notrod is probably just the same size as the MMC unless that one is tinier than I thought it was.

Also yeah, 3P's don't seem to want to bother with scale unless it's MP scale, so you can just probably completely forget scale exists unless it's MP. Official stuff certainly doesn't scale shit at all unless it's MP, and even then theres sometimes exceptions and compromises.
>>
Maketoys Contact Shot or Downbeat....?
>>
>>6454064
Would you consider TFC Poseidon bots individually mp scale? Or any 3p combiner team of similar size mp scale?

>>
>>6454064
At almost 8 inches, he's gonna tower over a lot of voyagers who actually cap out around 7. Deluxes are usually 5-6.

Weijiang will almost certainly upscale them immediately after release. They'd be fools not to.

>>
>>6454309
Jesus, this pisses me off every time I see it. It's just a nonsensical mess of moving parts. That fig either partsforms or somehow folds all the vehicle panels in every possible crevice. I can see a forearm panel, but the rest has to be sandwiched in the torso, legs, feet, maybe even the head. If that's the case though, I don't see how it could be done without sacrificing articulation.

>>
>>6454579
Well thats at least somewhat reasonable then as far as things go I guess. But no that Rodimus will fit in fine with most 3rd party figure, like he'll fit great with mmc's Drift when he comes out which is what I'm looking forward to. You're really only gonna have a problem if you were trying to put him with Deluxe Trailcutter or something.

>now it doesn't even look like a robot anymore.
By what logic?
>>
>>6454422
Those small front parts over his "abs" have always been the front of the truck. A majority of it gets sucked up into his body to give him more mass. Was their entire reasoning for going with a longnose truck back in the first movie.
>>
>>6455319
Funny how he later became a flatnose truck and it made for the most accurate movie Optimus Prime toys to date
>>
>>6455323
only because they gave up trying to recreate the transformation and just gave him a fake chest.
>>
>>6455323
To be fair, that has nothing to do with having enough physical mass. They just wanted OP to be huge to go up against jets and military vehicles
>>
>>6455344
now they give up and make nitro zeus into a bot smaller than megatron, who is barely bigger than bumblebee, and a little smaller than optimus.

Actually ordered the Searchlight and Freeway from a chinese seller on ebay. They should arrive in two weeks so I don't have any firsthand experience. But they were insanely cheap, like 12 dollars a piece.
Watched some reviews by independents beforehand. The plastic is thinner in places, but other than that they look the same, just bigger.

Always liked the comic designs of the Throttlebots. Don't care much for the combiner though.

I can't find much of a consistent pattern in their work, or anything remarkable about them.

MP, but not as spot on as other companies. Like, theres always something...Off. The face just isn't right, or maybe the arms are too rounded or squared, or...Something. Something ALWAYS looks just a tiny bit off on their releases, like another, polishing pass by a sculptor just didn't happen.

To be fair, I posted something generally negative here when I opened him last week so that might have been me? I'd really like to hear from someone who enjoys him, because maybe I'm being crazy here.

>>6456408
It's hard to explain, he's just... mediocre, especially for 40 bucks? I know it's not really a fair comparison, but his articulation and transformation are really similar to the generations/CW seeker mold, to the point where he's basically only got a head balljoint and ankle tilts over the official one. You can kind of give him double knees if you use a transformation joint, but it looks terrible and I'm normally forgiving about that sort of thing. His wings are on balljoints which you'd think would be good for positioning them in robot mode, but they can pretty much only spin around and rotate backwards, no up/down.

His paint looks nice, but it scratches VERY easily. I've already got two on the red of his torso, and like I said, I haven't messed with him much.

You have to use an adapter that literally clips onto his crotch to get him on the stand in vehicle mode. He's got a hole on his back for the included stand, but you can't use a figma or bandai one. It's 5mm though, so you can put weapons on it so I can't really count this against him.

Usually I like iron factory's stuff, but he's not doing it for me. I got their shockwave with him, and I like him more than when I opened him, by contrast.

>Inb4 chinese will KO oversize it
>>
>>6455199
Not worth it for the combiner. Sideload's transformation can be extremely difficult from the way they engineered it. A lot of parts mashing up against each other with little clearance. Also, the dedicated ratchet joints for combiner mode broke because the spring was too strong.

Some of the other figures have squeaky transformation joints, but they don't shoe any signs of damage. Most of their articulation is ball-jointed, so if you buy any of them second-hand you might want to pick up some Pledge/Future Floor Polish. The articulation that aren't ball joints can also have varying tightness. Nothing inherently floppy, but not rock solid either. Finally, some of these guys have really sharp edges, so If you do pick them up be careful not to poke or cut yourself when messing around with them.

All in all, if you had to buy only one, go for Shinebug. Hell, you can even save some bucks and go for the oversized KO. I've heard it's just as solid as the original.

They are basically fanstoys lite, or budget concious fanstoys. Fanstoys strives for perfection all round, dx9 just gets it to the good enough for an mp area.

Personally my favorite company is maketoys. I own so many of their products and absolutely none of them have been a let down in any area unlike dx9 with odd designs choices in small areas and fanstoys sometimea iffy altmodes and too tight joints.

I've only had Aurora but I fucking love him. He's like a really good Hasbro Deluxe, and it makes me wonder why Hasbro hasn't done something like this recently, because it seems like a fairly simple design that they could pull off and please a lot of people with at the same time.

I believe the OS KO Wideload has problems with breakage though, supposedly because of the aforementioned thinner plastic. So, you know, keep that in mind.
>>
>>6456798
Bought Aurora from BBTS because they always have it on sale and I agree that they're absolutely not worth their regular asking price. For $30 a piece? Fuck yeah, they're great. The price for the KO? Even better.

>>
>>6457315

I have these guys - got them day one. Quality is great. About the third-party plastic quality of MMC at the time. The arms are a bit too long and even folding them up like in the picture still looks kinda awkward. Absolutely fantastic figures though. Worth the prices.

The Titans Return ones are probably better though (but full disclaimer, I only have the Mech Ideas ones, not the TR ones).
>>
>>6457315
Oh, they're Deluxe-sized, by the way. Probably a bit bigger than Classics Bumblebee? Give me moment and I'll measure mine.
>>
>>6457315

I either sold them or shoved them away in a box somewhere but the joints on mine were kind of loose and floppy and shitty feeling and I didn't really like them very much. But the plastic quality was fine and if I had been more determined to enjoy them I probably could have gone at them with some floor polish and made them alright.

Agreed on both points.

I'm gonna takes some alt mode pics of the Mech Ideas set still but I'm just remembering how to transform them.

The ankle rockers are a little loose and could use some tightening but they still stand up just fine.

There appear to be some light stress marks in the square arm peg sockets on the outside where you can plug the weapons in but that's about it. The plastic is very good quality though. Quite solid. Mainly just paint to pick out the details so I doubt much (if any) paint scratching will happen.

All weapons can store in vehicle mode. Both have two guns but they have two different moulds (one for each figure).

Hammers are the same for both and have two little exhaust/handle pieces. You can stack all four together or keep two or three together, have them separate, etc

They're rally fun little moulds but they might be overpriced now. I think it was $69 for both plus shipping back when they came out. They're nice though.

>>
>>6458257
I sold mine a while ago due to lack of space (and that I can easily just buy him again for the same price)

Basically the thigh peg isn't fully pushed into the hip joint (so you could actually see ~1mm of the peg joint). Because of how tight the ratcheted hip joints are, you're bending the peg a little bit because it's not pushed in 100%. I know one person for sure managed to snap its thigh peg due to straining it.

Looking at photos of the Blackblast, it doesn't seem like they fixed it. Not a significant issue I think, just that you need to be a bit cautious when moving the hip joint.

Oh shit, well. I'll have to keep that in mind then. Cheap as he is for an MP figure, he seems solid enough save for the barrel issue. First I've heard of that.

Tusker, Fangro and Tailclub are super easy to find, it's the other two that are impossible to find.
>>
>>6458260
It makes people legitimately mad that high end action figures exist. You just aren't going to get the detail and paint from a transforming figure that a pretty action figure can muster.

TFS had those 3 on a Black Friday sale for $5 a piece, so mine is constructed out of dual Fangro legs and dual Tailclub arms. The latter is nice because now he has two elbows.

Yeah decently well. The backpack is on a peg and the screw just keeps it from coming off, rather than backpack being screwed on, if that makes sense.

One thing I've come to realize with them is how much you pay for shipping directly influences how fast they take to get it out the door. Sadly, I decided to quit Iron Factory after 4 purchases.

They offered the easy transformations that I wanted but after handling them, I realised that the tight joints coupled with the legends size doesn't make them that easy to transform as the small parts are sometimes difficult to manipulate with my fingers.

I am not really a transformation fan as i even find the MP car bots to be difficult. I only like the ones with simplicity levels to the likes of MMC Kultur and MT Striker Manus.

Dude have you ever untabbed his knees for truck mode? You need to be the damn hulk for those. At least on my manus and noir you did. I had to trim the tabs with a knife to make them even managable.

Come on man it's not hard getting everything all lined up right. Anyway, are those vehicle modes actually to scale? I don't have a clue what a camero and a lambo should look like next to eachother, but that's even more crazy if they actually got him in scale in both modes.

Only worry for me is that he could end up being ridiculously light for his size, or a diecast mess if they try to fix that.

Making combiners look like the show without partsforming or obscene compromise is impossible. The show did not give a fuck. Shit flew into the abyss or generated offscreen to make all the parts exist. Combiners are often way bigger than the sum of their parts. Mass shifting out of the ass.

Might as well partsform and make it as solid as possible.

Kinda curious about this myself. Also DX9 is known for shitting out "re-do's" of it's Legends sized figures, so what do you think is the chance for them to shit out one with any problems in the initial version fixed?
>>
>>6458499
>BBTS
>new flat shipping thing.

Well there's your problem.

I used that $4 shipping once and it took forever. I live just 1 state away and it took me 6 days for them to just ship my package out and then 4 days after to arrive.

The next time I used regular FedEx, which was only $12, and I got my stuff shipped out the same day and got my items in less than 48 hours after FedEx picked up the box.
>>
>>6458787
I live four hours away from their warehouse and it took TWO WEEKS for a fairly expensive item (~$150) to arrive, but then I spend ~$30 on an Acid Rain figure (3.75" figure) and it gets here three days afterwards. I swear BBTS has been more inconsistent than TFSource of all places.
>>
>>6458700
I think it's funny that people who bitch about Titans Return for partsforming don't realize that CW had much more mandatory partsforming going on. If a headmaster is partsforming, than building a combiner is uber-partsforming.

Is having a separate gun that stores in the alt mode also partsforming?
>>
>>6458741
>those thumbs
Goddammit why? Haven't these companies figured out by now that those outdated thumbs are always restrictive as fuck and can never do natural poses like a thumbs up?

Why couldn't they go with the ball and hing method? It's not like it would have been a fragility issue or anything seeing as how those thumbs are thick as fuck and FansToys manages to do it just fine on their significantly smaller hands.

I'm fine with hands and feet plugging in, but I refuse to accept that getting 5 robots to form a good body is as impossible as damn near all 3P combiners seem to imply. Most of the time combiners have limb bots aren't even fucking doing anything.
>>
I really wish toyworld wasn't so incompetent. They made a solid combiner but fuck me he's so wibbly and thin looking it's obnoxious.
>>
Hating on KFC Menasor for just having the cars strapped to the back of the legs is completely missing the point. All of the individual robots and the combined mode of that set are EXTREMELY cartoon accurate and that's just what Menasor looked like in the cartoon. That's the fucking point. If you wanted Menasor to do something different there's like several other versions out there that aren't directly based on the cartoon.

Being really self contained and having no partsforming is one way for a combiner to be impressive but I think being really cartoon accurate is pretty impressive too and that Menasor nails it. We'll see if the build quality holds up though. XTB has been getting a whole lot better but idk if they're actually ready to tackle a combiner yet or not.

It's personally my most anticipated upcoming combiner mostly cause I really want some more G1 cartoon-styled Decepticons to display with MP-36, but I'm only cautiously optimistic about it. Luckily, if they stick to $40 a limb I'm pretty willing to buy it even if it kind of sucks cause that's so cheap and I like how it looks.
>>
>>6458888
Yes I'm aware it's supposed to look like shit.
>>
>>6458872

I always thought the proportions looked weird but honestly the V2 version actually looks good to me. The differences are small but for whatever reason just like filling out that torso makes sense of like the shapes for me. I think the head kind of helps it too somehow in a subtler way.

I still haven't actually bought a set yet just because it's a fuckton of money but I'll probably pick it up in the next couple months.
>>
>>6458891
As more and more companies follow Takara's footsteps in making everything ULTRA GEWUN as possible more people are going to realize how basic bitch boring everything looked in the cartoon. Obviously it's up to aesthetic taste, but I really like how some companies try a "G1+" style where they capture 90% of the figure and then spruce up the design with visual flair, fixed proportions, extra silver highlights, etc. These are the old style of MP's like in soundwaves era and they hold up well. >>6458872 FT Terminus here is trying it's damndest to give the figure tampos and detail to make up for the fact that the source material is a big grey rectangle man.

>>6458898
The Lanky Kong arms kills it for me. They should have compressed so straight arm poses don't look like he can literally knuckled rag.
>>
>>6458872

>>
>>6458856

I believe anyone who actually complains about partsforming probably never held a G1 Seeker before. Goddamn thing was 100% partsforming. It was little more than a metal tube with a face on one side.
>>
>>6458869
>but I refuse to accept that getting 5 robots to form a good body is as impossible as damn near all 3P combiners seem to imply

Real talk, it is not impossible. It is, however, not possible without sacrifice. Something is going to go to shit if you don't partsform at least a bit. And most sane people are willing to make the huge sacrifice of "plug the fist in" to not have a 'bot that is compromised for the sake of one guy complaining about partsforming.
>>
>>6458911
It seems like most of the people who complain about partsforming are just hoping on the TR hate bandwagon.

Like they're bithcing about partsforming because a toy has a removable transformable head as a well developed gimmick, think it's the same as a G1 toy with a robot mode that half consists of removable parts that don't do anything or store in anyway while in vehicle mode.
>>
>>6458915

A completely original combiner or at least one that heavily departs from any particular source material designed from the ground up to work as a combiner could happen. Fat chance anyone has the balls to do it though. It would be cool to see a combiner integrate hands and feet in a way that they make up parts of the robot or alt mode without being completely obvious, or break down and hide away so well that you couldn't tell they combined. The combiner port system virtually all combiners use in some way would probably need to go though.

Honestly, I think it's pretty well known at this point the weakest part of any IF figure is always the alt mode. Some are better than others, but most are pretty bare bones for Legends figures. Part of it probably comes from their design choices though, since they're pretty much almost nothing but cybertronian alt's.
>>
>>6459376
I meant the Cybertronian truck alt mode. People have been complaining about it since War Within and they're STILL complaining about it.

It's not like Spark Toys and Iron Factory made this design up themselves.
>>
>>6459379

I like it myself. Only real designs I'm not fond of are the Dynobots, and thats mostly because we got those designs over actual, IF Dinobots. Which now we'll probably never get.
>>
Anons, I need help.

I want the GigaPower dinos but I'm not sure which versions to buy.

I know Guttur has hip problems that are fixable with replacement parts - that's not a problem since it's fixable.

I want either all chrome or all metallic but I can't decide which is better. Metallic Guttur is the only Guttur that comes with flame effect parts, right? I kinda want those but I prefer generally better tolerances and QC, so I'd probably go for the chrome version. I think I prefer the blue dino eyes but overall, the chrome one seems better in general.

But then Grassor confuses me. They released the CHROME version first and both the chrome and metallic Grassors have the flame effect parts. Is that right? So then is the QC better on metallic Grassor?

I really can't decide which to go for. I want good QC, as little paint chipping as possible, and nice colours (I don't mind that the two figures don't match with either version, as long as I get an all-chrome or all-metallic set).
>>
>>6459383
Agreed. And to be fair, whilst I agree on Iron Factory's alt modes, I still really like them. I think the cutesy-ness of them helps (especially on the fembots).
>>
>>6459387

If you're anal about paint and such, I'd skip chrome anything. Chrome shows any little defect, bit of dust, fingerprint, anything.
>>
>>6459393
I'm usually fairly anal but I'm not too worried about chrome showing things like dust and fingerprints. It's more about it chipping. I'm not usually one for chrome but those Dinobots look so damn good in chrome.

Sort of separate, but does chrome tarnish from handling it e.g. from skin oils? I've noticed some of my official MPs have some tarnishing chrome and I've barely touched them.
