What... what the hell is happening?
And why nobody talking about this?
Is there only Ghostbusters line or there will be other 80-90s based Playmobil lines.

Dont get me wrong - im a Lego fan and stuff...but that ghostbusters car and some other GB-devices look amazing!
PS:
The other thing - are Ghostbusters still popular? I thought they kinda were a short-lived fad and completely died after failed fembusters movie.
May be im a total slowpoke and these Playmobil ghostbusters were around the time when that movie was out.

I just live in Europe and i see these things popping out just now.

also lots of fresh-looking Sci-Fi stuff in those stores. I always associated Playmobil with boring outdated themes.
I know nothing about how good playmobil sells these days. But i sure was surprised seeing it being less lame.

I might grab a small ghostbusters set just for those 2 demon dog-monsters. >>6442771

OH FUCK. this set looks amazing.

last one - posting StayPuft marshmallow man.
I like how non-playmobil those non-human things look.
If i was a big GB-fan i would grab marshmallow man just for variety in my collection.

lol exactly my thought
i already own some of Imaginext with unique vehicle designs.
But when you put that toddler-level doll near it it becomes weird...

Playmobil has always been very good about remarkably accurate looking stuff, aside from the people of course. And due to the very weird stylized proportions that playmobil has some of the accessories are even go for 1/12 scale figures. I personally like using the beer mugs from the old merry men play set.

>>6442769
These were announced if not around by the time of the movie. They were mentioned a decent number of times here on /toy/ last year.

I say ghostbusters are still as 'popular' as they have always been. The brief marketing hype did bring them to the forefront of people's mind so there is fresh collecting of anything related to the original films.

Also they recently(ish) announced the next IP to get playmobil playsets. How to Train Your Dragon. Just like with Staypuft and the Guardians, the dragons look pretty darn good.
>>
>>6442769
Holy shit, had no idea either.

I don't know much about Playmobil but isn't that their first licence theme?
>>
>>6442769
I know they already did those horible oversized BTTF playmobil-style statues but I hope they'll also do a De-Lorean in normal size.

Never been a fan of Playmobil in generla but I'd love a cartoony BTTF De-Lorean in that scale.
>>
>>6442773
I still can't believe how actually good that cartoon was, and how easily no one noticed it.
>>
>>6442769
I thought lady Ghostbusters bombed so hard financially we would never see merch again beyond the initial push.
>>
>>6442785
I wonder how that Stay Puft compares to the Kenner version sizewise
>>
>>6449615

None of this is FemBusters, though.

The chick in the suit is obviously Janine.

I admit, I had to do a double take. When I first saw OP's set in TRU the other day, my first thought was, why are the 2016 Ghostbusters being sold with the original Eto-1? But then I looked closer.

>>6442773
Sweet. I have a thing for sci-fi flying cars, I might have to hunt that one down.

(I kind of wish Lego would make a future theme. Not necessarily a space theme, but like a city theme, but futuristic, e.g. with hover cars and whatnot. Might even be an excuse to bring out a new monorail.)
>>
>>6442778
isn't that three pronged thing next to the proton pack an old Playmobil space thing? Pretty sure I had one as a kid.
>>
I just can't give a damn because it's movie GB and not RGB. No doubt DiC is pulling their usual "pay us Disney-tier licensing fees for our forgotten cartoons" crap again which is why no one makes toys of their stuff. We briefly got Minimates and those crappy Mattel Mego-type figures but nothing since. Mattel even said they were going to do proper 6" RGB figures but never even showed prototypes before they gave up the license.
>>
>>6442769
EVERY TIME I see that as a thumbnail, I think Janine is Erin and then I see that it's not and I die a little.
>>
>>6449484
Sorta. Technically their hockey sets were the first licensed stuff, and I want to say they also did Porsche. But this is their first licensed ip based product.
>>
>>6456790
lego did, it was called ultra agents
(had some tron/blade runner esque stuff)
>>
>>6460687
DIC is not to blame.

The shafting of Real Ghostbusters merch in favor of movie GB stuff, is all due to the fact that about 8-9 years ago, TPTB finally got ALL of the movie actors to sign off on letting their likenesses be used in merch.

(Before that, there was no actual movie merch with the actual actors faces; even Ghostbusters II had super-duper shitty merch redesigns since they couldn't use the casts faces or the cartoon designs, resulting in shit like Ray being a mustachio guy and Egon not having his trademark poofy hair)

It was really just bill holding out and not wanting toys and cartoons that looked like him.

>>
>>6470779
are the sets neat?

how do the accessories scale compared to other figures?
>>
>>6473092
not that anon, or do I have those sets but from my experience with other playmobil and the pictures I see I can give some pretty good guesses

Sadly what I assume will be the most desired accessory to use with other stuff, the Proton packs and guns, will be too small. Anything like a backpack will pretty much always be too small on other figures, not to mention really never fit right. And the proton gun is actually a little stumpy in it's proportions even for playmobil accessories, so while a 1/12 could hold it, it would basically be a proton pistol.

The other hand held stuff like the detector and the trap have more blown up proportions that could look better in the hands of a 1/12 then the proton pack. As for more generic accessories you see in other playmobil sets as well as this, the beakers and stuff will fit perfectly with 1/12s, the microscope is way too small, the camera will come out to a more handheld camcorder size, and the pizza is one of the few playmobil food items that will be too small for 1/12 unless using it as a personal pan pizza. Most other food items tend to be on the small side but usually not enough to not be believable.

As for furniture, no playmobil furniture I seen ever can work with 1/12. However the science equipment could work if you take them apart and give the main sciency looking tops a taller base. They seem to have enough sculpting that some panel wash would really make them pop and look great in a 1/12 laboratory.

Playmobil is heavily ignored around /toy/ for some reason, sadly enough. My guess is, it's more of a traditional European line rather than an American thing, and unlike Lego, it never had too much of an international breakthrough despite being immensely popular inside the EU.

Still, they're pretty fuckin' awesome.

it's definitely a rich suburban white people toy. that plane was great. had the yacht too

The Slimer is also disturbingly accurate and creepier for the Playmobil-style arms.

it costs the same as LEGO
