Short story: no, even the head system is completely different and only reworked from fennrak.
Long story: I didn't even know kardas was a thing until some years of building him (some countries just didn't get Titan sets and advertising for some reason)… I just used my 8990 set, skralls legends dude, 3 times vez&fen, a technic stormtrooper (please don't hurt me), a takutanuva, and fused them together for the base build.

Anyway I fixed every issue previously mentioned, the knees still need some work tho but I shook my desk for 20 seconds and he didn't fall even with the heavy af cloak.
So I think I will just use the ideas I gathered to rebuild the other WIP I have entirely.
Oh and if you think that this looks nightmarish you're not ready for my second WIP, literally some Lovecraftian shit.

Speaking of Noble Kanohi, was anyone else pissed off about Greg canonizing the Av-Matoran masks as the Noble versions of the Karda Nui Toa' and Makuta' Kanohi? Taking aside that Noble Masks never made much sense anyway (or Turaga as separate sub-species, for that matter), those masks look nothing like their Great forms. They're not even the Masks' basic forms since they're all morphed to suit the environment. It's just so mindboggingly contrived that the Matoran would just happen to pair up with the Toa/Makuta they share their mask with.
There are a bunch of existing Kanohi without a canon appearance and the BZP fuckers just had to convince Greg into wasting 6 perfectly good Mask designs for bullshit headcanons no one gives a shit about.

But yes, officially Tanma's Mask is a Noble Miru, so if you want to build a canon Turaga Lewa MOC you should use that Mask. Radiak's mask could've made for a cool unseen Makuta mask (like Miserix's), but it's a Noble Jutlin now so fuck creativity. Same goes for the other 4.
One can argue that the Metru Masks looked nothing like the 01 Turaga Masks, but that was inevitable since the Toa Metru were pretty clearly designed around the Toa Mata and Nuva, especially Nokama and Nuju.
The main reasons this pisses me off so much is because we didn't need it. No one cares about Noble Masks in-story so why should fans care? These could've been Toa Hagah masks, or belong to other important Toa like Helryx, but no. I don't care myself, I love Tanma's mask and I'll continue to use it however I wish, but a lot of people are fucking autistic and will listen to what every little stupid canonization Greg has churned out post-2010.

Damn, pic related also was supposed to be the Kanohi Artidax (Miserix's mask) and would came with Mutran's set (which later was changed for another fucking Shelek in green). And worst of that, they even changed the Mask's name for another island.
I didn't care much about the Av-Matoran and their masks (my favourite is Tanma tho) but yeah they could've been used other masks we never saw (as you said I'd love to see more of the Toa Hagah masks).

I get that Mutran couldn't have his own Mask mold since he was an exclusive (just like Icarax) but it's still really lazy that they allowed team members with similar characters to wear the same Mask, with their respective Shadow Matoran getting the same treatment. Just pick up something less blatant from the other Makuta and Shadow Matoran sets.
And yeah, that's why I'm annoyed. I'm that "rebel without a cause" type who likes to mix and match everything to match is own headcanon (like changing half of the Toa Mata masks powers to something else), it's just the creative sterility of these canonizations that do more harm than good that annoy me so much.

One thing that always miffed me about the 2008 Makuta sets is that none of them sans Icarax had reversible masks. I assumed the whole point of making Makuta's mask the way they did in the first place was for artistic reasons, not necessarily practical ones (distinguishing the way Makuta uses masks compared to every character seen prior, literally backwards/upside down) so I was a little disappointed when that didn't get carried over. In hindsight, going the extra mile of designing a reversed side for each mask could have prevented a little bit of those inconsistencies with the Shelek.

Not that it was ever used that way officially. Gotta love the consistency: in the set's artwork and comic Takutanuva has the Kraahkan's "regular" face, in the game he has an Avohkii, and in the movie it's a mix of the two fused vertically in the middle. Then they make a special movie edition Kraahkan, and they use the wrong face of the mask, so it hardly looks like the movie version of either the Kraahkan or Takutanuva's mask.

Just looked at it, almost all her creations are too bulky to be posable, or use the same techniques over and over again to make it look like she knows what she's doing (it still looks good tho) . I have to pretty much make blueprints and quality checks everytime I test something on mine (except the arms, they are shit but they just work) : he's partly based on Ohma from nausicaa, prototype eva 1's head (plus DOOM's cyberdemon but they are not known for their flexibility), goddamnit I dont want to just make some statueshit and say "Hey look he's [insert penis size] tall! I really am a bonkles master!", It's not a success unless he can do some crazy poses.

Yeah I'm still here, and I finally have an immaculate mold. Making a second high quality mold so I can make two at a time. Might make a third mold.

This mask is an example of a lighter blue, I used less dye than I should have. Unfortunately, it didn't fully cure. Waiting, maybe if I leave it alone for a few days, it will be fine.

Anyone who doesn't say Gali's 2008 Kaukau is lying to themselves or has bad memory. The Inika Kanohi were controversial because they tried to do something completely different from usual, but at least they had some artistic direction behind them. Pic related, however, has no art whatsoever behind it. It is without a doubt the most unispired, boring, ugly and out-of-character mask the designers have ever dared to churn out. It was THE sign Bionicle had truly jumped the shark.

Whole thing with Takanuva during that era was whole lot of bullshit. Hell, all the Nuva got shafted pretty hard during 2006 and later. Takanuva stays behind to protect the city only to go too with bunch of Matoran, then Toa Nuva get their asses kicked by bunch of niggers. Okay, this one makes sense on some level. Not >>6430718 but the difference between 2001-2004 and 2006 onwards (2005 was very much a transitional year) is that the parts became a lot more modular and versatile. Take the Toa Mata torso, the reason why it never got used again after 2003 is because, well, there's not much you can do with it as opposed to the Inika torso which got used even on Titans. People shit on the Inika build but at its time it was most likely the best they could come up with.
That they didn't use it well (the Piraka torso is shit and should've been dropped right after 2006) is another question entirely. If all canister sets during those years looked as good as fan favorite Jaller Mahri I bet people would've complained less.

Taking away part of the Makuta's powers made some amount of sense for the storytelling, since they had to keep up the mystery of Terry's plan and had to give an explanation as to why the Makuta didn't wipe out the Toa the moment they saw them.
But this just highlights the mistake of making them so powerful in the first place. They should have kept a very limited palette of abilities, maybe distribute random Kraata powers to individual Makuta instead of making them possess all of them universally.

I agree that many of the 08 Makuta designs were lackluster. I normally like the lanky skeletal look of old Bionicle sets, but I have a hard time accepting the canister Makuta as belonging to the same species as the bulky 03 Teridax and hulking Icarax.
Maybe they shouldn't have made them Makuta at all, but instead lower-tier servants. Personally, I'd have drastically decreased the number of Makuta too to only a smaller group. Having so many of them, making them lose so much, not to mention making some of the serial-only ones so laughably incompetent took away too much of their imposing status.

The inorganic sci-fi look that the heroes had really bored me, but sets like the witch doctor, Von Nebula, Xplode, and those guys that you picked up had a cool vibe.

desu bitil was and is one of my favorite sets, him and vamprah are the only non-2001/2002 sets that I still haven't taken apart (yes, after almost ten fucking years) (do note that I liked some of the 2007 sets even better, but those parts were just too nice not to use for mocs).

When they came out the mistika were already controversial I remember. Some hated every single one of them, but for me it was love at first sight.

Also loved the vehicles btw, first bionicle sets that had some of the complexity usually found only in technic sets. It was nice to see that the design team had realized that the fanbase had grown up (a little) and wanted some more challenging things to built.

I've thought about that "reduce the Makuta numbers" idea myself too. One solution would making the canister sets Shadow Toa or something else and having the real Makuta be Titans. The only ones who had a distinct personality and are worth keeping are Antroz, Icarax, Mutran/Chirox and Krika. The others, including the serial-only you mentioned, were pretty much grunts.

Likely not possible since sets come first and Lego wanted a "villain" set exclusive anyway. I think the solution could've been Chirox having Mutran's personality since he was just a less interesting Mutran, while the Mutran set has another type of character.

I've been thinking about the Shadow Toa idea too, and I think they could have worked with some of the Makuta personalities.
Like, referring back to the unused concept of a secret Shadow Tribe from MNOG, maybe the Makuta have been corrupting Matoran for a long time in secret, and found a way to turn them into Toa. Some have become less asshole-ish high ranking generals like Antroz, others have turned out more depressed like Krika, especially after coming to terms with not being "true" Toa.
Gavla, who hated being an Av-Matoran, could easily be combined with the character of Gorast, just change her colors. Throw in Ahkmou there too in place of Bitil and make up a few more members to round out the team. Personally, I really like how Vamprah looks, so he could either be a severely mutated Shadow Toa or the team's Rahi (he doesn't speak anyway so there's nothing lost).
The Makuta have to be killed off for plot reasons, but the theoretical Shadow Toa could be allowed to live and develop further instead of getting wasted like the actual Makuta were. Some join the good guys, other remain and serve under Turkeyduck's rule, so that could be the groundwork for all sorts of drama without Greg needing to fabricate any more.
Icarax the Starscream and Mutran the Science Guy can be kept as Makuta, belonging to the very few in existence. Maybe keep Miserix for the backstory and serials, scrap the rest.

However, Greg didn't believe in the notion of "reformed villains", so I guess he would have opposed this idea.

But whatever, I still like this more than his stuff, even though I just made most of it up right now.

If it were up to me to write the story I'd have (another) civil conflict among the Makuta. Greed, remorse and vendettas would turn the titan-sized and fully powered Makuta against one another. The canister sets would be servants, mutants and rahi who either fight alongside their masters or serve as fodder to keep the trivial toa and avtoran away. The toa would end up working together with a servant or Makuta and getting the vehicles that they'd use to fight and outrun the other Makuta as they try to complete their mission. Ahkmou would appear as the Shadow Toa (could be a canister set) and act as the hand of Teridax in the conflict.

It's almost funny how most of G1 stuff is cheap as dirt excluding handful of stuff, but constraction parts are kinda expensive for what they are.

My personal theory is that outside of being used in System sets every now and then, not that many BL sellers bother to part out CCBS sets, and when they do, they naturally try to maximize the profit they get. Not that many people buy CCBS in general. This is apparent with SW sets where you pay for the Disney logo, and unless you get crazy discounts, chances are that the part out value won't be that much.

I think the Piraka were sort of meant to be that though they really didn't look the part (Voya Nui Matoran must've been dumb as rocks to believe those were real Toa). Apparently Shadow Matoran lose their former elemental affiliation when they get corrupted (which in my opinion is a dumb idea, but I digress), but I think Shadow Toa would've been finer experiments so they could keep their elemental powers.

I liked Ancient as a character too. One of the few good fanmade MOCs to come out of that mess of a book, too. He represented what I wanted to see from the organization, some sort of yakuza/mafia villains who are extremely ruthless but have their own code and their sense of camaraderie.
Too bad Greg had to be a hack as usual and instead of developing a potentially interesting villain he pulled another of his le epic edgy plot twist xd, as if filling the organization with more "T-the Shadowed One is super evil and forced him to join!" faggotry wasn't already enough.

The Phantoka/Mistika Makuta should have been servants of the Brotherhood, not actual Makuta. Keep Mutran and Icarax as Makuta. This way the Makuta as enemies aren't cheapened. Toa Ignika and titan Takanuva can defeat the 6 minions + Mutran, the Nuva can team up in a climactic battle against Icarax (the most powerful Makuta) to reach the Core.

(I'm still pissed that after 2001 the 6 Toa never took on a Makuta again.)

Dunno, the sets weren't exactly bad (certainly better than 2008, but not as good as 2006-2007. Gelu is my nigga), but I felt I was unable to form an emotional connection with the characters and the world. The idea behind 2009 was to provide a fresh start but everything felt TOO fresh, to the point it didn't feel as much as new as it felt alienating. Like it just wasn't Bionicle anymore. The plot kept talking about Spherus Magna this, Spherus Magna that, and all I could think was "Um, actually I don't give a shit about all this stuff. Can we return to the Matoran Universe please? That's where all the characters I like are".

Agreed. I only have the Cendox because the others were way too pricey, so I tend to forget they even exist. Didn't help that lore-wise they had so little significance and were mostly controlled by literally who characters, unlike most of the 08 vehicles.
They looked nice tho, shame I couldn't get the rest.
