Takara
>uses well done and accurate paint apps for each character
>gives targetmaster characters their targetmasters
>modifies the shitty toys hasbro makes to be even better
>holds polls for the fans to decide what to reissue and meet demand
>creates high quality MPs for good prices

Hasbro
>cheaps out with slapping stickers on voyager and leader toys
>instead of targetmasters characters are just given hollowed out weapons
>doesn't bother painting headmaster robot modes
>somehow excuses a toy not even having elbow joints because muh cost
>can't match plastic and paint colors; especially with yellow toys such as TR Bumblebee and Weirdwolf
>puts high demand toys in boxsets with a bunch of cheap repaints no one wants
>brings over only a few Takara MPs and makes the prices on them retarded

SDCC version has breakage issues, Takara version you have to break to make any of the far superior fan modes. This is one time where the basic Hasbro version has everything else beat because it didn't add fuckup's like the others did.

I'm not even a Hasbrocuck but if we're doomed to having shitty paintjobs from now on then it's preferable to have decals as an option over no decals at all. They can work decently in some figures that are deliberately copying their G1 toy aesthetics, like most TRs were, after all that's basically what Reprolabels has been doing for almost over a decade now. As long as Hasbro doesn't use including stickers as an excuse to further simplify paintjobs then it's fine for me.

Goddamnit, what really pisses me off about Air Raid is that I've always wanted a jetliner in Transformers. The concept is great, the overall figure isn't all that atrocious, but lord, the flimsy proportions and the fugly paintjob make me puke. Give us airplane autists a proper Airbus / Boeing once and for all, Hasbro.

Stratosphere, right? The Antonov? He's both terrible in terms of proportions and not a jetliner. Still an enjoyable figure for size alone, and the smallest Optimus in the world is a neat company to emphasize how big the plane is, but it's still a bit of a wasted opportunity desu.

Maybe Hasbro simply can't design proper wide body aircraft?

Story in a similar vein.

Transforming Spacecase(the terradive repaint) after taking him out of storage. Notice stress marks in the translucent plastic. Panic. Hit it with a heat gun and the stress marks disappear.

Almost. They're invisible to the naked eye from arms length, but holding it in hand I can still see them (then again, I know exactly where they are).

>>
>>6406814
I think every single one of my CW/UW deluxes' HFG port is cracked or stressed in some way. Those little 5mm ports are just under too much stress, they should have come up with something else that's much more robust.

That said though, blade's HFG port is the only one I fear will break and become unusable some day. The plastic is just too thin. Thankfully I have him as an arm so it doesn't have to support any more weight than a hand and sometimes a gun.

Also, speaking of this, does Megatronia/Victorion have the fixed HFG ports on the helicopter fembots?
>>
>>6406826
Megatronia's helicopter twins have reinforced HFG ports, and the plastic feels much better than past UW releases. Unless you put something too big for them in there (like the V1 Nonnef feet) they should be fine.

Sounds like you should just track down one of the figures you actually had as a kid. Alternately, you should check to see if they've had any updated figures.

That is such a shame. I mean, your opinion is valid, but some of the best figures are the random dudes. Artfire in particular blows Inferno and Grapple out of the water.

I'm also partial to these two carbots as a semi-threatening henchmen duo. One of the best things about nobodies is that I can inject them with some of my own character traits. It makes the figures feel more unique than just being "that dude from that cartoon"
>>
>>6407086
I was pretty poor and didn't have any. I pretended some hot wheels were them.
>>
>>6407097
In that case, just track down the updated toys of whatever characters you liked the most. There's no need to track down a G1 brick if you don't have nostalgia concerning the figure itself.
>>
>>6407102
Thanks it's more about the character than the specific toy I could have had. I've just tried to walk around toy stores and only seen ones that didn't really resemble what I knew.

The prototype we saw of him was done almost entirely in pink plastic. Not surprising they cheaped out and just probably cast him almost entirely in pink and just painted the few non-pink bits.

Topspin and Triggerhappy, of course MP bee has more detail, thing is, there are tons of Bees, and some have done things better than the MP, like better looking mask, non-dead eyes, better paint finish and non-reversed wings on the backpack, all those make MMP Bee look less impresive, while Triggerhappy and Topspin are completely fresh experiences, the 3p Topspin was alight but not as good as the TR.

Anyway, opinions, all subjective.

>there was a jet, and a helicopter

From your descriptions heres what I think they could be.

Possible jets: The Seeker's and Coneheads (Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Thurst, Dirge, Ramjet), maybe Blastoff (he was a shuttle, so kind of close), Broadside (jet and aircraft carrier), Jetfire (literally a Marcross Valkyrie in G1 toy form), most of the Arielbots (Slingshot, Firefly, Silverbolt, I forget the other two).

Helicopter was possibly Sandstorm or Vortex.
>>
>>6407129
Here, choose the color of the toy you are looking for and then the altmode (car, jet, etc).

>>
>>6407142
Jetfire was his name, and vortex

Nifty, and yeah I think I liked the macross vfx PS1 demo/game because of him.
>>
>>6407154
It occurs to me as I look through these and the wiki, that most of them look less than stellar in one or both forms because of the compromises needed for the transforming mechanic. This is probably very cliche as well, but I think I'd rather have a fairly faithful version, perhaps paired with a painted model of their transformed version together. Thanks for the link man, that is a really smart tool.

I often prefer characters I don't know that much or seen in a show because of the same idea. Characters that appeared on shows kind of have a "tainted" character to them, like, I'll still keep seeing the screen character in them all the time and limit what I can imagine it doing a little.

One of the few guys I remember having was Seaspray. He was so simple but I remember just fiddling with him back and forth, back and forth, and his was one of the few G1 episodes I remembered seeing, since I'm sure I was very little at the time.

It's cathartic in a way to have this figure now, and for it to be such a good one at that. I don't know if I still have the original but someday I'll have to rummage through the attic to see if he got tossed in with the hot wheels cars or something.

Huh?

What makes you think this figure hasn't been designed years ago? Where was it stated that this figure was fast tracked? Nothing about this figure feels rushed, poorly designed, or half assed in any way as far as I'm concerned. On the contrary the design seems quite thoughtful and elegant to me.

Heck with Figure of the year this may be the best transformers figure ever made. But don't take my word for it listen to the autists on tfw and continue to comment on figures you don't own

I don't have him yet but I honestly can't imagine the hood/wings situation really bothering me much, considering a more compressed body would just wins up having the arms bang up against the wings constantly like MP Tracks. >>
>>6407095
Different anon here, but TR figures have a lot of what I like to call "fiddle-factor". They're amazingly fun to transform, and the titan master gimmick adds a lot of play value in both modes. Even though all of my MP figures are better engineered and nicer to look at, TR figures are just extremely fun toys, and I find myself playing with them and enjoying them a lot more than most of my MPs.
>>
>>6407274

There were a ton when he was released.

tl;dr He pretty much is a non-transforming action figure unless you want him to look like he got tossed down a gravel driveway. Also, never use the silencer attachment, it can easily break him. If you want a Megs you can transform, go get Despotron.
>>
>>6407121
That picture right there pretty much sums up what I like so much about TR. Weird, random bots with tons of gimmicks and great ways to interact. Super fun to play with, and it's probably the only way we'll ever get to see interesting characters like Doublecross or Weirdwolf.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good MP, but they're just so cut and dry right now.

>>
>>6407456
see, it's not really the transformation that's so difficult; it's actually rather straightforward. There are many more spots and hinges where parts swivel on others or lay on top of painted bits. After transforming him twice, my hands were covered in tiny paint flakes, though I haven't seen any real damage, it certainly isn't visible any robot mode, which is really all I care about.

>>6407503
Most all other Masterpiece figures are fun to transform, Megs is certainly not one of them. As long as you know that, then you're totally fine.

If I had to name the MP that was the most fun to transform it would have to be Star Saber or MP-10. Shockwave is a real treat too
>>
>>6407634
Oh, one other tip I have is that you can remove his chesteplate and faceplate before you transform him to avoid damage. Sure it's partsforming, but if it preserves the life of the toy, I'm all for it

To be honest, the fins in TF5 is his spoiler.

But on your point, the lil deals hanging off Bees doors are ugly. The way his roof folds up there might have been a way to having them be on joints connected to that but have cost too much for the price they wanted.
>>
>>6407645
I always hate how people post stupid pictures that nitpick one arbitrary part of a figure while ignoring the rest. It would be like taking a picture of a formula one car and a busted ass Toyota came and saying the Toyota is better because it has functioning headlights.

I'll admit I don't own either of the figures in that picture, but I bet the MPM is amazing in a ton of ways that other figure isn't. Oh, but the back isn't accurate to the movie so it's trash.
>>
>>6407645

>>
Hot damn I regret not picking up Shuffler when there were like three in my immediate area but now I'm glad I managed to find Apeface, this is great for a figure with like four moving parts. The colors are fantastic and his face sculpt is neat.
>>
>>6407669
Sure. The MPM is superior in articulation, and the vehicle looks cleaner. AND it has the official Camero decos which I'm sure cost Hasbro some copyright coins.

But to your point, the post is in reply to specific points rather than in general - "design is elegant and quite thoughtful". You can say it's thoughtful in how much articulation it packed into the figure, but it sure as hell isn't elegant.
