It kills me that I'm not going to be able to get that Mulan set. I've been dying for more stuff where she's not in her matchmaker outfit.
Also, WTF at another Moana doll? They couldn't even sell out of her last two.
>>
So what's the appeal of Barbie (amongst other such dolls) for you guys? I'm not looking down on it, just curious what it is that makes them so appealing
>>
>>6386449
I don't collect Barbies (yet haha, we'll see), but I do love Disney. Disney movies have always had a "be yourself" message that resonates with a lot of gay people, and Disney have always been very gay positive. I'm currently trying to collect one doll of each princess and prince, because I love romance, and every villain because they're fabulous and Jafar is 100% gay.
>>
>>6386449

Purely sexual fetish.

Sorry.
>>
>>6386466
lmao well at least you're honest
>>6386458
and that makes sense. I'm a sucker for Disney as well, the romances are just so fucking sweet. I've heard other gay guys say the same thing, about Disney movies being gay positive and encouraging.

I think I just messed up a vintage 80s doll.

Found a 12" Mattel doll at a thrift store with a red jumper that read "Skipper" on it so I thought she was a late 90s teen skipper because even though she was as tall as Barbie she had no boobs.

On the front of her head she had two short strips of hair on each side, but they were slick back with the rest of her hair so perfectly that I thought some little girl had just cut the front ends of Teen skippers hair, and it looked bad so I finished cutting them off. She looks fine now, HOWEVER...

I Googled Teen Skipper, and couldn't find any that looked like the one I found. Body said 1979 on the back. Found out she was actually a retired 80s doll called Teen Looks Jazzy. Barbies retired teen cousin doll from the late 80s, and what I mistook for cut strands of hair were actually 80s bangs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx9IP5Bbkjs

Would anyone know if there's any way to restore bangs on a doll? I'm afraid to keep cutting, and messing her up even more.

A lot of people are really bummed out about that Ping doll being a D23 exclusive. I think the Blue fairy might also be an exclusive, but I don't know for sure. They might release a Ping variant set for the Disney Store like they did with the Elsa/Hans set.

It doesn't surprise me that they would try to capitalize on the hype of a new Disney Princess which they already have a body mold for before her popularity fades.

What pisses me off is that they should have released her with her grandmother instead of those retarded coconut creatures.
I said it once, and I'll say it again they should have gone with a Disney characters and their parents theme this year.
I would have preferred a Pinocchio/Geppetto set way more than a Blue fairy/Pinocchio set. I guess I can't complain too much though. At least they are doing a Triton/Ariel set which was was one of of the sets I dreamed about them doing before they even made any type of announcements.

I feel horrible now. I didn't know. What have I done!
They didn't look like bangs at all. I think they might have already been cut down some, because they were not as long or puffy as they appear to be in the images I'm finding of her online. I think the bangs had already been cut short which made them look like uneven cut sections of hair.

I'm still going to fix her up, and love her.

>Jafar is 100% gay.

Dude, wat? Did you watch the same film as me? Just because he's soft spoken & effeminate, doesn't mean that the guy sucks the D.

He was planning to marry Jasmine to make himself sultan. A political marriage to be sure, but a hot nubile wife is a nice bonus. And then the first thing Jafar did once he got his magic powers & ruled the kingdom was to make Jasmine his sex slave. He also fell hard for the "I'm so turned on by you" distraction that Jasmine pulled on him.

The only thing that Jafar tried to keep in the closet was his horndog lust for tight young women. And even then he had his moments of it slipping out when he was interacting with Jasmine.

No

>>6386575

This!
Jafar was at least in his late 50s when he chained up 15 year old Princess Jasmine, dressed her in a red sex slave outfit, pulled her around his throne room by her chain like a toy, and almost slapped the shit out of her when she rejected him as a lover. All the while forcing her own father to watch the physical abuse. He also made her suffer by having his evil sidekick Iago abuse, and force feed salty crackers down her fathers throat. Once rejected by her the dude made a wish to force Princess Jasmine to fall desperately in love with his D.

In that case I might try getting two Ariel/Triton sets. I really wanna open one up. I also really hope they give King Triton a new face mold.

That derpy smiling face the classic doll has doesn't go with the movie moment they are trying to reference.

Also that classic King Triton face, and body mold Disney Store used for the classic doll dates back to at least 2006. It was created by the German SIMBA toy company

>German SIMBA tv Commercial very related.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHfZxT0t75I

I'm pretty sure the toy company that creates dolls for the Disney Store bought or licensed the old German Triton/Ursula molds from SIMBA instead of creating their own when they released their King Triton, and Ursula classic dolls in 2013.

Also hope his hair, and beard are actual hair, and not molded one plastic hair.

Have you seem peole talking about the new Kens lately?

I wonder if these sort of buzz from the last days is spontaneous, and people actually think it's controversial or just care for new body shapes for Ken dolls all that much, or it's just a straight on publicity stunt, maybe involving money and "digital influencers"?

Relevant to the last thread.... she comes with both a notebook AND a smartphone, haha.
>>
>>6388161

A followup to my post... unboxed her, so open to answer any questions anyone has.

of note: the "socks" do not go all the way to the foot, and cut off the bottom. In addition, they are glued to the back of the leg, so not re-usable on any other dolls. The boots are nice, but have leg space to accommodate the socks and are a little loose on other Barbies.

Otherwise, high quality.
>>

>people actually think it's controversial

I'd go with the second option you mentioned. Why would the new 'Broad' body Kens be controversial to doll collectors? It's not like they are actually releasing a fat Ken with a beer belly or retiring the present-day prefect body ken, and replacing it permanently with the Broad version as Mattel actually did with Barbie in the early 2000s. Once the 90s ended they reduced her bust size, and made her waits larger, and those changes were permanent.

>>
>>6388608
Pretty sure they're online exclusives. I've been hearing that a lot of sets have wonk eye so it's extra shitty.
>>
>>6388021
Mostly I see a bunch of conservative people in my family reposting some new's sites re-branding of them as "Millennial Dolls" and going

>LOLOLOL MILLENIALS NEEDED THEIR OWN BARBIES? Guess it can't come with Barbie's Dream House, they need to come with their parent's house instead!
>>
>>6388590
I have a feeling this whole line will be dirt cheap in a few months. The Walmarts near me ordered fuck tons, and they are untouched weeks later.
>>
>>6388552

I'm out of the house for a few days, so no more pics at the moment, until Sunday. But, I'd always say every doll should have rooted lashes.

I'm a little new to all of the lines, so don't take this at 100%, but I think she has made to move legs at the hips and knees, but doesn't rotate on the thigh. She doesn't have a bendable torso like a Life in the Dreamhouse doll.

But the articulation is still pretty solid, and her clothing is high quality - snaps instead of velcro on the sweater dress, and her hair comes out soft instead of that weird glue feeling on a ton of dolls.

Well worth displaying out of the box for now.
>>
>>6387661
I would just pinch some hair from the back of the head to reroot the bangs with. That 80s hair isn't going to look any less dense with a few missing plugs from the middle of her hair.
>>

To be honest with you it's actually a combination of this >>6386458 and a little bit of this >>6386466

I loved watching Barbie commercials on tv, and Disney movies as a kid. Grew up during the Disney Renaissance so I got to watch movies like the Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, and Aladdin when they were coming out in theaters. The only part that sucked is that come Christmas time or my Birthday, and I couldn't find or afford any of the dolls based off of the characters I was falling in love with every year in my area.

Scalpers who owned mom and pop stores would buy out all the dolls from local toy stores like Toys R US, and than they would turn around, and try to sell a $14 Ariel doll for $65 around Christmas time. Every time I get a Princess or Barbie doll I wanted as a kid, but couldn't thanks to a scalper it's kinda like checking an item off of my bucket list.

Oh good just what every child, and toy collector loves! Molded on shirts, and pants with some very limited strands of clothing attached to the molded on clothing!
At this point why not save a few more shekels, and just give them molded on hair, and call it a figure like Jakks Pacific did a few years back. Only thing these things have going for them is better articulation, and their appealing cartoonish face molds.

When you say "budget" I automatically think of a doll that's priced anywhere from $5 to $9.99.
If that's the price of these new upcoming Star Wars "dolls" with molded on clothing than cool.

However, IF these so called "budget" dolls are priced at $12.99 to $14.99 they can stick them up their greedy corporate behinds.
>>
>>6394522
Definitely agree that they shouldn't be priced more than $10 since they're more action figures with hair than fashion dolls.
That Leia with the extra outfit and accessories could probably get a way with being $20 at most.

The Hasbro version has a very unpleasant face mold mostly do in part to her nose, and her Alien bug eyes.

Unless you want to settle for a Mattel Ariel doll you might have to search ebay for a Disney Store doll that predates 2011. All Disney store Areil dolls started looking off to the side after 2011. Some people thought that their eyes just looked a little too derpy/creepy when the doll would look right at you.

I haven't read EAH so I can't really compare!

I thought the first book was pretty good, relatively great in terms of the age range/genre. It takes place before the film and is mostly about how Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay ended up becoming friends. It got surprisingly dark at times. The second book was all right, it takes place after the first movie. I haven't read the third book that just came out yet.

It should fill the avoid if you're looking for a tween fairy tale novel that has themes about whether or not children of villains or heroes are inherently good/bad, living up to parent's legacies, children having to deal with the consequences of their parent's actions, whether "evil" people can have good in them etc etc.

Agreed, but it's not just the variant dresses that I admire, but the quality, and detail on those older dolls would never be seen on current classic Disney Store dolls. I really wonder what their price point used to be.

I know that in the late 90s Disney Store used to sell Mattel dolls because that's where I bought my light up necklaces Kida doll from Atlantis. I remember picking up a 12" Mattel Ursula doll at the Disney Store in the late 90s, and she was priced at $99.99.

I don't know when exactly Disney Store started producing their own dolls, but I remember seeing them in 2007, and just assumed they were expensive because everything at the Disney Store used to be ultra expensive back in the day. What I do know for sure is that in 2010 classic dolls were priced at $12.50 which jumped to $14.50 around 2012. Than in late 2013 Frozen dolls came out, which introduced the current $16.95 price point. Shortly after that Disney Store reduced the quality, and the accessories of the Frozen dolls, but kept them at $16.95. A few months later all classic dolls jumped to $16.95.

(Excluding Disney Parks for this)

So the earliest I've been able to find Disney Store exclusive dolls is 1999, pic related. Many of them were created just for UK Disney Stores in these first years before the launch of the Princess line.

They started releasing the "Princess" dolls in 2001 when they quietly launched the line, and at this time the Princess dolls include Tinkerbell, Alice and Esmeralda. From 2001-2005 they were releasing both the "classic" looks and special dolls, like ballerina, winter, etc The quality had really degraded by 2008 for the classic dolls, which were now stuffed into tubes. 2009 is when they revamped the dolls because of Snow White's anniversary and started a handful of golden years where DS was producing really gorgeous exclusive dolls. Remember the 2010 "&friends" dolls, with the gorgeous dresses? I think that was the last time Mulan had actual layers in her clothing and wasn't coated in glitter.

>Man, I wouldn't mind the modern prices if the quality was better.
Adjust for inflation a $22.50 doll in the late 90s would be about $34.31 today, and that's where the problem might be.

I don't think many every day modern moms would randomly spend $33.78 on just one classic Disney doll today. Oh sure they might buy one for a childs birthday, but unless they were upper middle class they wouldn't just walk into the store, and buy their child three or four of them on an average day.

I have this vivid memory of Disney Store Dolls, and items being very expensive back in the day even for their time. In my family if it wasn't your birthday you could look, but not touch at the Disney store. Kinda like walking by a really expensive ice cream shop as a child, and pressing your nose up against the window to look at all the different flavors knowing that you would never ever find out what they actually tasted like because of the stores high prices. Then you would hear the Shops door open, and watched as a mom with two of her spoiled, and ungrateful kids would walk in.
As an adult collector I to wish Disney store classic dolls had better quality, but I'm also glad that they are now affordable for everyone, and not just the middle to upper middle class.

Yes, she's a Hearts for Hearts doll. They retail about $40 new and for every doll sold they make a donation to charity. The line is very beautiful, but this girl is my favorite.
The thrift store also had 'Zelia from Brazil' who I guess is much rarer than Nahji but Nahji has always been my love. Both dolls do have damage to their eyes, however. The company gave them sub-par eye quality in the early years and the eyes damage like 'Silver eye' in american girl dolls. :( Nahji looks beautiful still, but Zelia looked... rough. Maybe I'll go pick her up anyway if she's still there. It's hard to find them with their things. I would definitely like Lauryce (tan/blonde girl) and Shola Tan/brunette with purple bow in pic) some day. Maybe even Dell (brunettte w/ blue eyes).
>>
>>6416261
Did they reboot these or something recently? The website only has four dolls.
>>
>>6416577
Yes, they struggled pretty hard at retailers when they were first released and were originally dropped. I hear it's manufacturing problems. Some of the dolls have quality issues. But now they are re-launching and they started with those 4. There are more coming soon though including a new Syrian refugee girl.

According to someone on Tumblr these are the upcoming Snow White DS dolls:

General release dolls: snow, evil queen, prince and platinum

inspired by her wishing well look snow white is in a blue skirt with a white apron and peter pan collar top. Around her waste is a brown embroidered corset. She has a red shawl and perched on her hand is a bird. In the background you can see the wishing well scene.

ed size: 6500

the evil queen is in her classic purple gown which features a deep cut V neck as well as embroidery and rhinestones throughout. She has a large white accordion collar, black choker necklace and gold crown. She is holding the box featured in the movie meant for snows heart.

ed size: 4000

The prince is in his classic look from the wishing well scene in a blue vest, white long sleeve top and cape. His details include a sword and leather boots

ed size: 3000

The platinum set is a completely original outfit creation with snow in a deep ruby dress with sleeves similar to her classic look with a longer belle sleeves extended beyond the shoulder sleeves. The skirt has a cream panel in the middle with lots of embroidery. The bodice is laced up in the front with gold embroidery on the sides. Her hair is styled up with flowers. She has a lace collar. The prince is by her side in a complimentary look that has gold detailing as well as a cape.

ed side: 650

I feel like the one person who actually loves Bratz sometimes (obviously I'm not but still). Can anyone else see the dolls ending up like Blythe in a few years? Failed upon release then became super popular. They're so pretty and have such fashionable clothes, but the dolls just kept flopping hard.

I found a dollar store doll dress made with soft fabric--not that weird stiff paper material Mattel keeps using--and a functional woven belt, it was miles above any recent actual Barbie fashions. I guess they did this because of all the comments left on the Disney Store website about them releasing the same Mulan doll year after year.

I'm sorry to say that I don't like her new face mold. Her nose is so small it almost looks like a Bratz doll nose. While I think the Hasbro version of this dress is ok I think this one looks very dull. I can't tell if that's a new Mushu figure or the same one from 2017?
I'm so glad I got the 2017 version last month while I still had the chance. The older face looked more like an asian doll. This looks like an asian / White girl hybrid.

On the bright side her nose is so small that you could use the head to create a Jessica Rabbit ooak doll.

The only new Barbie's I got this year is her, and the Totally hair 90s Anniversary doll. I bought the last MtM martial artist doll my local TRU had three months ago, and they haven't restocked her since. I've never even seen her at Target or Walmart. The only new MtM doll I've seen at Walmart is the MtM skateboard black girl variant. We've had the same four MtM black girl variant shelf warming for months, but I haven't seen one Blond MtM Barbie. I guess some scalper bought up all the blond ones or she flew off the shelves the moment she was put out.

Very nice concept. Too bad it seems it's only made for Apple products. Am I wrong?

And... Where is this from?!
The doll is clearly a Kurhn, but rebranded with the silly name and put on the vehicle.
So the SmartGurrjuruurjurjurls are half European, half Chinese?

This is an US$8,00 Kurhn doll.
Her hair quality looks kinda crappy, but she seems like she would be an easy reroot.

Look at all the thing she comes with, looking fairly well made, if you compare with a Barbie on the same budget, and yet she has articulated body.

Not to mention the brand is smart enough to offer even more articulated bodies sold alone so you can upgrade them if you want to, wich seems exactly what Mattel should have done with the MTM bodies, wich comes with horrible clothing/stuff you don't want to.

Not to mention they actually ship worldwide... Wich... does Mattel even? Cause at least till 2016 they didn't and who really care now?!

Seems they are diversifying and growing their brand into these more easthethicaly pleasant dolls that retails at around US$30,00 too.

Pros
The boxes appear to be bigger, and if they are this means that the dolls wont look crammed into a display box that was originally created for a single doll anymore. They made the hair long enough that it can actually wrap around Flynn. She'll probably be the Rapunzel doll with the longest hair to date! From what I can tell. The dress isn't as nice as the first Rapunzel/Flynn set, but it's way better than the Rapunzel/Gothel dress. Flynn face, and outfit look nice, and I like all the accessories they added.

Cons
Her face is nothing special. I can't even tell if she has rooted eyelashes?? Kinda wish they were making eye contact. Instead of looking down at him shes just looking off into space. It kinda sucks that shes not actually pointing the frying pan at him as she does in that movie moment.

I'll probably get this set because it's original, and I like Rapunzel.

Cons
Let me just say that I don't own a Cruella doll, and was hoping this one would be my first, However...that face looks scary as hell. She looks like a possessed Michael Jackson Halloween mask! Her face would creep me out everytime I looked over at it at night. Her coat isn't ugly but boy is it boring. There is no details to it. Her mitten gloves look comical, and why do they have a silver cuff around them? The black dress looks very plain.

Prose
I like the plastic dogs/puppies, but they are not enough to save the set.

Unless I run into a shit load of money before her release I'll pass.

Plastic furry dolls? I can't stop laughing. I'd just like to see the face of the Troll who first suggested these characters at the table meeting. Couldn't they find a way to connect the heads to their bodies better? It looks like they've been decapitated.

Pros
For what it is it's ok I guess. the outfits are nice, and I applauded the originality of picking these characters, but if they were going to go with an obscure Disney couple they could have gone with a Black Cauldron set.

WHY!!!!?

Just Fucking Why !?...

My (Why) list for Ariel
Why did they fuck with the already perfect Ariel face mold ?
Why did they flatten her nose?
Why does her face look like a round flat pancake now?
Why did they reduce her makeup?
Why does it look like they have reduced Ariels bust size?
Why isn't her hair puffy, bigger or wavy?
Why did they pull her hair tightly to the back, and gel it up to high heaven?
Why is her lipstick a dark shade of purple ?
Why is she standing underwater?
Why does her tale look like a shitty school art project?
Why does Disney Store doll creators hate Ariel so much?

First they release an Areil/Ursula set where they give Ariel a glossy face, and a bloody shirt, and now they just flat out reduce her breast size, and made her face look like a retarded dollar store knock off Ariel face.

FUCK YOU TOO Nomi Vela!!!

My (Why) list for King Triton
Why does king Triton have a wide black mans nose now?
Why didn't they make his beard fuller ?
Why isn't his chest bigger, and his arms more muscular?

This whole thing looks like a fan made ooak set.

Pros

It looks cheap. Her neck is way to skinny, and her head looks like it wants to pop or fall off. Man, I thought they were going to knock this one out of the park, but wtf is this?

That cheap looking crinkled white collar alone is reason to hate this doll.

This is what a $120 LE Queen should look like

Honestly while it would be cool to have a 17" hag LE doll I think the 12" version is way more faithful to what she actually looked like in the film, and is an over all better looking doll.
>>
>>6419187
$10 Moana has a friendlier face too. I fully expect the new doll to shelf warm just as hard as the two prior dolls.
>>
>>6419277
That set is the only LE set I thought was worth purchasing in the past few years. The Cinderella/Tremaine wasn't bad but for reasons that I can't remember I didn't buy it. Maybe because of the faux ripping on the dress?
>>
Dates for the 12" LE dolls:

Cruella - In Store 9/21, Online 9/22
Rapunzel - In Store 10/5, Online 10/6
Robin Hood - In Store 10/19, Online 10/20
Moana - In Store 11/2, Online 11/3
Litte Mermaid - In Store 11/16, Online 11/17

>they chose the scene where he is scolding her
That's putting it mildly. It's the moment where he violently destroys all of Ariel's dreams, hopes, and treasure in a red shit storm of fury .

>I don't want to see that. Look at the sad faced Sebastian and Flounder in the corner..

Agreed they should have chosen a more tender father, and daughter moment. I mean it's for a Disney Store doll set after all.

>I know this feel, bro.

I think I'm getting screwed out of the Pinocchio/blue fairy set do to this D23 bull shit as well. Dirty Scalpers are already trying to sell the sets for over $500 right now.

If this >>6419315 release date schedule is accurate it's all over for me. Why couldn't they make that shitty Moana or Cruella set D23 exclusives instead of Pinocchio. We've had about 39 Moana dolls released since the film came out, but never a Pinocchio.

I rebodied mine onto a purple shirt made to move. I posted pictures last thread.

>I'll be getting it because I really wanted a King Triton doll, but I am not happy about this AT ALL!

...Or you could just not buy this set because it's awful. Disney listens when you voice your opinion with your wallet.

...But we both know you won't do that because you're a whore for Disney.

That looks like gold foil print on paper satin. Eugh.
>>6418836
This actually looks like a collector doll, so congrats to them. I still wish they could find a way to express the concept of "fancy" that doesn't involve glueing rhinestones all over or piling on clashing embroidery on every part. It's like somebody let loose a child beauty pageant granny in the design department with her bedazzler and embroidery machine.

Are middlemen/pickups a thing at D23, or do the limited edition numbers and long queues make it totally unfeasible and my only option is waiting for scalpers? Gosh I hate not living in America sometimes....
>>
>>6419333
When I was a kid I always hated that scene.
>>
>>6419603
It terrified me as a kid. I can watch the scene now but there's a buried feeling in the pit of my stomach still.
>>
>>6419490
They're a thing but you're going to still pay high prices. For instance I saw someone offering a pick-up for Mulan/Shang for $500.
>>
>>6419344
Blue Fairy/Pinnochio and Mulan/Ping are D23 exclusives for sure, unfortunately.

Disney literally takes dolls that people have been begging for and makes them D23 exclusives. look at the Slave/Red Jasmine.
>>
>>6419226
I want to say I can't believe they reused the mold...
>>
>>6419652
Where might I find them? Just out of curiosity...
>>
>>6419670
I'm not sure you could find them at this point since D23 is going on. Try instagram disneydoll, disneydolls, d23, etc tags to see if anyone has open spots this late.

>tfw I remembered that Ping is a d23 exclusive

well fuck
>>
>>6419333
It's kind of a weird situation because we do see humans killing and eating fish/sea creatures throughout the movie. I imagine it would be like finding out your kid collects serial killer memorabilia.

Heads up: Barbie Collector is merging into Barbie.com starting July 17th. If you want to save the remaining images of older collector dolls (they never did restore all of them like they said they would...) do it now
