This. I call it the Mezco effect. Figuarts printed faces and Mezco cloth goods look off in pictures but actually having it in hand, they look great and even sometimes amazing.

The pic of Luke's face that fucktard keeps spamming comes up as 5 inches tall on my monitor. That's nearly as tall as the figure itself. The head is more like 1.5 cm and at that small size it looks nearly perfect to the unaided eye.

Printed faces look like shit when they're misprinted, sure. But painted faces look terrible if the paint is misapplied as well. Whatever Bandai is doing, their stuff sells well and almost always looks great.

But Mezco clothes still looks like it has texture in person. It's not as bad as it is in HQ photos, but its still there to make it just look like its some Hollywood costume like Raimi's Spider-Man or BvS Batman.

Same with the Figuarts. You may not see all the individual dots, but it still looks textured. And texture on a face is horrible, especially when that texture is supposed to look solid like the eyes and mouth. Eyes aren't fucking supposed to look bumpy.

I actually like a bit of muted texture to the face and skin, as it simulates real human imperfections and gradients. It keeps the figures from looking like a cartoon (unless it's a cartoon figure, and then I'd prefer flat paint). But all that is personal preference, and I can totally understand people preferring painted faces and plastic bodies to Figuarts and Mezco.
The point I'm trying to make is that these figures just look so much better in person than some of the pictures may seem to portray. Even if you PREFER a Hasbro Luke in the end (and I'm not saying that's necessarily wrong) I think that giant macro-lens pics of Figuarts' effort do not at all accurately portray how these things look in hand.

They deliberately are releasing shitty versions of a figure though to trick people into not only double dipping, but triple dipping on the same figures in the span of only months. They had the new Leia made already and said they were putting it out, but then shipped out the figure with the rejected head and said they were gonna release the better version a few months later in 40th. They did the same with the Luke. That 40th Luke isn't that old and already he's getting a new better head sculpt. This isn't like something being a year or two old. These are months old figures getting released with different head sculpts.

My SH Figuarts Ep. 4 Han Solo and model kit Stormtrooper arrived today. Han is really damn good apart from the hips being a bit restrictive. There could've also been an extra face/face and some gripping/fist glove hands but overall if you're on the fence about it, I say get it before the prices get too insane.

Haven't built the Stormtrooper yet, but if I like it I'll probably army build it since it was about the same price as the Black Series one here in Oz

The Stormtrooper is a great kit, Probably my favourite sculpt of the character between Figuarts and Black Series that I own.

My only issue is neck is a bit short making him look awkward in some neutral poses but you can pull the arms down slghtly to mitigate that effect.

Also I recommend painting the mouth piece grey instead of using the sticker.

No store around here has gotten _anything_ since R1 wave 1. I've been able to beat scalpers to some Titans Return and Marvel Legends but they're just not ordering Star Wars. At all. Those Jyns and Cassians will be there forever.

Same. At least I managed to get Old Ben at Gamestop and Vader at Best Buy, but nowhere else has gotten anything new since last year. The Jyn's and Cassian's have been marked down to $10 for months at Target and Wal-Mart and still no one is buying. It took me 4 months to find Dazzler. NJCC, in March, had people scalping them. Already tossed in sandwich bags marked $30. Speed Demon, female Beetle, and the Dr Strange stuff is everywhere.

I swear TRU got solid cases of Damien Wayne because 20 of them constitute their entire Multiverse selection. The box says he shipped with 5 others bug he, and only he, suddenly appeared on shelves.

Star Wars, God, I think stores out here order like every 5th wave. We got the first 3 and then nothing until TFA. Finn shelfwarmed a little but it's been Zuvio holding down the fort for almost 2 years now. Nothing between Zuvio and Cassian, nothing since then either.

In all seriousness, within about a half hours drive, in 2007 (not 30 years ago...that comparison is beyond depressing) I had 3 TRUs and 2 KBs. There is now 1 TRU and it's not 4 times as well stocked for serving the area alone. Rent everywhere is just way too fucking high for an independent shop to make it even if customers weren't poor as dirt.

No lie, before Christmas some unnamed business had already liquidated fucking heaps of Rogue One and The Force Awakens black label figures to the salvage market. They're as bad as the Green Lantern figures. I remember when I was working at TRU, we had an aisle FULL of those things that wouldn't sell. We had nothing but the first wave because Mattel doesn't know how to do business either...and so they sat.
