This, Optimus is better than the Leader, but the transformation isn't as good as Hound or Megatron, and his articulation is more limited than Megatron and Hound (no wrist swivels, ankle, limited waist swivel, limited leg swivels). Sometimes I feel like the only guy who don't care that much about waist articulation. You can still make tons of awesome poses without it. Even when a figure does have it, I barely use it because it usually just looks weird, since most Transformers have such blocky, angular waists.

Personally, I think ankle articulation is a million times more important. It's pretty much what elevates a figure to the next level for me, since it enables sturdier, more realistic-looking poses.

Chrome looks a lot better than painted silver, but the fact that chrome is one of the first things on a toy to deteriorate is something you need to expect. The chest piece and sword look like they'd hold up for a while though.

Made some progress on Cancer/Squeezeplay. Bought a junker version of the G1 toy on eBay for a fiver so I've been looking at ways to integrate parts of that. Using the beast head was a given but after taking the legs apart I found they've got a similar sized peg to the one used in a lot of figures today so I can attach some modern upper legs and keep the G1 lower legs without losing articulation. Also saves me having to ruin a Triggerhappy along with Mindwipe and Skullcruncher.

It'll be a wee bit shorter but I'm happy with how it'll look, thoughts?

I don't really get why they didn't just design the toy to have the cab removable. Seems silly to screw it on when it would at least give a little extra play value, especially now that you can parts swap with PMOP. Wheeljack is one of the greatest MP toys. The perfect balance between G1 design, toy design, and just good aesthetics all around. He's clearly G1 Wheeljack, but he's got neat touches like the transparent wings and the real-world Lancia paint job. 3d printing + chemical smoothing to make the initial prototype, then using a basic silicone rubber mold of the prototype.

I got lucky and find a Target that just restocked and picked up Blitzwing. The problem with Target is that, according to the guy who worked there, the website will indicate that they'll have a specific figure, but in reality it just means they have a figure of that specific class because of some sku bullshittery. So if the site says they have a blitzwing or sixshot "in stock" it just means that they gave a voyager and leader class figure on the shelf and there's a 'chance' is them.

And without the targets near me, they will never restock once they sell their initial stock, i swear i NEVER saw TR wave 2 on the shelves here.

That, much like the transparent wings, was probably done to evoke the original toy more than the cartoon. It's stuff like this that proves the MP line has not always been about strict cartoon accuracy, no matter how much geewunners want to screech otherwise.

Those plates are stupid, and would only limit the actual use of his hands. I much prefer the MP design where his hands and forearms were actually meaningfully integrated into the transformation, and the Lancia tail light hand guards are cool and distinct, even if they're not accurate to anything.

It's not weird at all. They didn't want to copy the G1 toy or cartoon with the hand plates, because they're stupid and would only hinder the use of the hands. It wasn't nearly as much of a slave as it is now. It only used the cartoon as a rough guideline. We're having a discussion about just how different Wheeljack actually is from his cartoon design compared to modern MPs. If you don't look any deeper than him being a white sports car, then yeah, he's "identical" to the cartoon But in reality, he still has design elements from his toy, like the black limbs and clear wings. He's got stuff from the real Lancia Stratos like the mirrors, paint job and red rims, none of which are cartoon OR toy accurate. Also stuff that isn't from anywhere, like his tinted windows, spoiler/taillight gauntlets and louver backpack, and then there's little easter eggs like his bearded face which references an unused design from Transformers Animated.

Compare that to Sunstreaker or Megatron, who take pretty much every design cue from the cartoon, to a fault. It's been said many times before. MP used to be about so much more than the cartoon.

Megatron jobs and can't fight on his own, Starscream's reduced to a sycophant and every other Decepticon is pretty much drones to a cause with underwhelming leadership. MPs used to be to my taste, then they started pandering to geewunners in all the wrong ways.

My collecting has shifted more towards Takara Legends figures, lately. The designs are good, the Transformations are fun, and the quality is just enough of an improvement over Hasbro's stuff to make them feel worth the price, and they're not hampered by being totally cartoon accurate, although you have to admit that even the generations/legends line has gotten exponentially more G1-accurate over the years.
