I think this set is a new low for the line. The colors on these two figures are terrible and also the paintjobs look totally incomplete. The lack of a an artful paintjob makes these figures look more like something you would see in an American retail store and not a premium collectors figure

its inaccurate, however the red paint peaking through the brown/grey skin looks fantastic, and is how they should have done it with the shma shin 4th form figure,every tooth and claw are painted fantasticly, no sloppy paint on the small details, only thing that bothers me is the ornge/brown paint on the tail, there is no smooth transition from tail to torso.

I've had mine for a couple days and I'm pretty happy overall, but his joints got loose pretty damned fast, which is kind of surprising; I own four of their other godzillas and all theirs are solid as hell. The common theme is updated mold, which is commonly shared through all the releases. It does seem that DBZ line got more love this year, but previous years prove that DBZ hasn't always been on the top of their game.

I feel like the 2nd and 3rd form figures are really hit or miss depending the the lighting they are taken their pictures in.
With that said I think 3rd form could have used a lot darker paint scheme and less orange, but I have seen some figures that came out a lot darker in paint than pictured in >>6357333

Not awful but totaly inexcusable for their pricerange. They picked the worst sweatshop factory to paint some of the most detailed figures to date and it shows, 4th and 3rd are just red molded plastic with gray/brown smeared over sloppily.

NECA Shin honestly looks better than he photographs; it's weird. (I get the impression that the SHMA has the same problem. And people who bought a 25 dollar figure are arguing with people whp bought a 120+ dollar figure). The cheap plastic comes off as shiny in photos but on the shelf it's satisfying how dark he is with the few bright red highlights. He is off-model which understandably upsets people's autism and is disappointing because movie Shin is oddly proportioned- and that's what makes him so compelling. But he pulls off and looks accurate enough in the iconic straight-ahead pose. Loose joints are an easy fix, I don't get why that gets to people so bad.

It could be better, but it's OK. It's interesting that both the NECA and SHMA Shins are so divisive. One major alteration in Godzilla's design and the toy companies totally shit the bed.

My personal problem with the off-model is that it has too much "personality." The movie does the best job of making Godzilla an animal since Godzilla Raids Again, but the figure still looks a little "human" and pissed off, especially when you pose him in unusual positions.


Here's the real flame war question: is NECA 1954 more on model than SHMA 1954? Because it sure looks it- even if the movie had more than one model the NECA looks closer to the suit.

These things fire a mouth beam much like Shin has, and the stage 5 morphs coming out of the tail look a lot like God Warriors.

IN CONCLUSION: S.H. Monsterarts Godzilla 1954 is cute, expressive, and very articulated. Compared to the NECA, it's superior in almost every way (once again please no company wars). If you can get it for a good price, I definitely recommend it. He's currently still on the sale price I got him for at HLJ (¥3,900): http://hlj.com/product/BANN04900. If you love the original Godzilla as much as I do, it's a deal you can't pass up.

I had him shipped other products and the total was 3060 yen, so not sure how much it would be individually. Another thing of note is that his box is fucking gigantic, much more than it needs to be.

That's simply not true I'm afraid. The sculpt on the SHMA is lacking, the black plastic used is brittle and creaks if you attempt to move anything, ironically the limbs get loose REAL fast and refuse to stay in place.

There's no personality to the toy at all, I don't know how you can even think such a thing. The NECA figure is the definitive '54 Godzilla figure. It looks like the creature stepped right off the old film.

SHMA 54 > NECA in regards to accuracy, but price you can't beat the NECA.

Has NECA ever explained why they only make action figures of white people for their Aliens/Predator/Prometheus line? All of the human characters they've made have been white, is that an official policy of theirs?

Predator has only one human made, the main one so that's understandable but they have been trying to get Carl Weather's likeness to make a figure of him.
A small percent of those movies have non white characters so it makes sense a small percent of the figures they make are of non white people, but they're there.

Your price statement about price is pants on head retarded though. Price should be a factor in any good review because it effects expectation for the figure. Shma may be the overall better figure but there are people out there who think the neca is the better value because it's still acceptable and cost a fraction of the price. You can't separate price from from the way people perceive a figures value.
