For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

So I left the vote up, and both lines won. So:
Frame Arms Group Build
This time the idea is to build any Frame Arms, or Frame Arms Girl kit, and paint and customize it.
The rules are overall pretty simple, the base must be recognizable as FA or FA Girl, other than that there's no limit on what you can do.
Due Date: September 1st
Note: This is a prize build, there will be a prize provided by me (several MSG weapons, to be finalized this week), there will also be a mystery prize provided by another anon. That means that to enter, I need WIP pictures submitted before the due date. Simply email me some pictures of you working on it, I don't care at what point, as long as it's possible to tell where your final product came from.
Email: [email protected]
I'm also available via IRC and Steam.
>>6340317
Does it really count as customize if I am planing on painting it the same color as the original plastic?
This would be my first gunpla build so I want to be conservative.
>>6340360
I mean, I have no problems with that, it's not exactly a requirement if you look at past builds, it's just that Frame Arms kits are very easy to modify.
>>6340317
>have both the FA girl and FA kits that adds literally nothing to the table by having both kits
Baselard was a mistake.
>>6340361
Might join just for fun then, thanks!
My first kit unexpectedly arrived today
...now I just have to wait for the other half of the tools I ordered to show up
>>6340423
Nice. I always thought the Turbines had some of the cooler mobile suits. Too bad they didn't get any 1/100s.
My cloak dried, so I'm test fitting it on my Jesta while the top coat on the GM Sniper dries.
Got a couple more pics if no ones opposed

>>6340444
>>6340423
RIP in Peace.
Any zakus out there? Just finished my second kit last weekend and im liking the result. Stumped on what to paint up next but im having fun experimenting with new techniques.
>>6340821
Did you use vallejo anon?
>>6340821
try joining the group build
>>6340821
Nice work, zakubro. These two are all I've got painted, but I'm planning to do some more once I've got extra time and fluorescent paint.
What's the other kit you did?
I just finished snapfitting my Inno. I don't have much to compare it to but I'm loving the articulation on this thing, I can already tell it's going to be a load of fun.
>>6340935
innocentia is cute!
Just bought this bad boy and it's exceeded my expectations
>>6340998
Gundam Bael is really just a clone of this.

anyone know a page to see EVERY bandai model kit news not just gundams? starwars is getting some nice stuff (that grievous)
>>6341193
Bandai hobby's site updates at the start of every month with what is releasing on what specific date that month.
Bandai is top-tier when it comes to plamo, right? They always have the best plastic, the most advanced tech, etc. So why don't they ever prepaint anything? I know I'll catch flak for this from "PAINT IT YOURSELF" types, but let's for a moment entertain the thought that there are people who just like straight builds. Koto slapping on a few of the must crucial and/or difficult paint apps doesn't PREVENT you from painting, but it does let the kit look good even if you don't have painting skills.
Just wondering why Bandai never took that step basically.
I'm working on a Samus Aran custom, and I'm trying to remember what suits would work to kitbash and modify.
For the round shoulders, I can think of the AGE-1 Titus, Gyan Revive, Hi-Mock. Is there more that I missed?
Is the Gundam Local Type and the Worker Late Type worth checking out?
>>6341223
The worker is a fun, very different looking suit. Pretty nice engineering too.
>>6341211
Bandai's plamo factories are (nearly) all in Japan, a fact that they proudly promote themselves with as it means they have to achieve higher quality standards than china or similarly based factories are restricted to.
One of gunpla's biggest selling points is how comparatively inexpensive it is. One of the key ways they achieve this low cost is the high amount of automation in their factories, utalizing things like robotic fork lifts to carry out most tasks a human would be required for.
Prepainted parts requires hiring human laborers typically, especially if you want any sort of precision or detail. Hiring and paying these people costs you more money and continues to cost you money as long as you're producing the kits, which in bandai's case could easily be decades. This all raises the cost of the kit as well.
Bandai would rather instead invest in things like creative part separation, multi-colored layered runners, and stickers/decals that can simply be produced from their automated factories that don't require hiring some guys specificly to do.
To my knowledge the only modern line that required laborers like this to be hired was the System Weapon line that had precut and pre assembled parts. They actually moved production of that line to a third world country to keep the costs down.
>>6341211
>prepainted parts
>not inherently cancer
>>6341223
I liked the local type but like other origin kits, this fucker comes with about a hundred tiny stickers if you're into that sort of thing.

Got some more work done on the GM Sniper II.
I have a little problem.
I'm trying to fill little pits I accidentally cut out while slicing nubs, but tamiya basic putty doesnt seem to adhere well enough for me to reform the edge(imagine if you accidentally bevelled a sharp edge). It had about a day of curing time. What gives?
Thoughts?
>>6341435
that's a barzam
>>6341429
its cause the surface you are trying to adhere material onto is too smooth, due to being planed off with a sharp edge.
2 solutions:
"Glue" the putty on by adding some extra thin before you add the putty. Not too much, just enough to soften the surface.
Roughen up the surface with some medium grit paper. That will allow the putty to get into some recesses and stick better.
I'd go with the first option cause it's quicker but both are pretty fast and easy to do.
I'm about to start on my Burning Gundam, and it occurred to me that if pay whatever amount of money for a PG Burning.
>>6341481
This thing is already out? I didn't even notice.

Should I get Vallejo or Tamiya acrylic paints and primer?
>>6341429

here's your problem
tamiya basic putty is for filling small holes, not for reforming edges, you are going to need pic related for that, also what >>6341473 said about rough surface
>>6341435
Eh.
Baund Doc when?
>>6341687
They would probably seriously make money off a Baund Doc, it even has 2 color variants for P-Bandai shit
>>6341707

Just asked this in the /m/ thread, but how do I attach a MS Sight Lens for a MG 1/100 monoeye?
Anyone have experience with the robotech kits like pic related? I love the design and wanted to do something a bit different for my next kit.

i can use the lightsword sprue from my v gundam for the ray weapon, any tips on polishing out the nubs? they are completly flat but i can still see them
>>6342000
You can try polishing with really high grits, but in all likelihood you're going to have to paint.
alright lads
how do you tell when your backlog's too big?
>>6342029
thanks for the tip anon, i will try that. i can make 5 or six rods like in the pic, if the nubs will not polish out i just maybe cut the rods in such a way they are at different intervals, added stop motion effect for free
also, i know they are called beam sabers. and you'll have to excuse my patato'y english i'm kinda tired atm. i'm still going to say sprues though, i'm visiting from /tg and the authist doesn't like runners

Why? He was perfectly lined up for a Gogg dick shot.
>>6341959
It's a 1.5 Gundam.
Thinking of painting my RX-78 chrome gold, because I have the paint and I'm bored and also my younger selve's attempt at panel lines was terrible.
Buddy of mine decided to buy models after I started building them. These are the first three he got and is about to start building the heavy arms for his first one ever. Any advice for him?
>>6342178
That looks really good. I like the paint job on the shining gundam. What kind of gold paint is that?
>>6342300
>Any advice for him?
I'd have to go with "don't cut your teeth on an MG (unless you don't mind messing up something that expensive when cheaper alternatives are out there)" and "read the guide." Do have him check out some form of tutorial before doing anything at least.
>>6342300
buy godhands, accept nothing less
Woah holy shit I didn't know you could build all three gundams in the Ez-SR team with one kit
Anyway, I know that in the lore of the show, the gray bits are supposed to be metal, but does anyone know if the white bits are also metal, or are they supposed to be plastic? I'm thinking about giving the gray parts a gloss topcoat to make them shiny like metal and the white parts a matte topcoat, but I noticed some of the white parts have like, rivets on them or something.
>>6342300
First models ever, or first gunpla?
>>6342313
Well, it's all plastic in real life.
It's all metal in the series.
Do you mean you can build all three models simultaneously, or that you can build one model with any of the parts from the other two?
>>6342316
I should have mentioned we play war hammer 40k so use to building models. But first gunpla type modles.
>>6342300
Tell him to read the guide in OP post, then get a cheapo HG and fuck it up first. The recent RX-78 or Guncannon will do nicely, at around $10 apiece. He will almost definitely make mistakes his first time. I DEFINITELY wouldn't do Heavyarms first--like yeah, it's the easiest of those three, but it's also a pricey exclusive kit. I would wait to do that one until he has his skills down.
>>6342322
One model with any of the parts from the other two. It's pretty neat, and you can swap configurations or create your own mix of them. Good kit all around.
>>6342322
You can only have one, but you can build all of them. The "main" set of directions is for the Ez-SR1 Intruder, and the set of directions for the other two are on the back. You basically just take the Intruder and remove the head and add/remove some bits of armor here and there.
>>6342223
>small sections of edges
counter-intuitively enough small fuckups like these are the hardest to fix because there's just not enough area for the putty to grab onto
either you have to leave them as is or you have to make them worse before they get better: remove more material before attempting the restoration
>>6342308
The shining is with liquitex gold and the Nobel is with krylon spray gold
>>6342341
Did the krylon give you much trouble? I was thinking of trying it on my God Gundam for its yellow pieces.
I'm thinking of just repainting all of the yellow and blue parts altogether. I think a darker/navy blue would look nicer.
Decided to use Vidar's rifle with my GM Sniper.
that didn't take long
>>6342369
One more then bedtime.
>>6342336
guess I'll try the gluing thing then
Project Spiegel God is underway.
>>6342380
Project cancelled because I'm retarded.
>>6342365
Its pretty good to use. Dries fast and iirc, is both paint and primer so you could go at it with another gold coat if you want
I need sanding sticks, just the plan paper is too hard to sand accurately, what is the best ones to buy?
>>6342401
Oh cool. I'll give it a shot. I'm gonna try some gold and some metallic blues and reds to see if I can find something I want. As it stands, the God Gundam colors are just too candy colored or something, I guess. Maybe they're too pure of a red or blue, but they just look funny to me.
Thanks man.
>>6342411
thick popsicle sticks with double-sided tape. cheap as hell, easy to make, and you can swap used sandpaper on it in no time
a block of wood or plastic works good too
>>6342411
http://www.mmodelstore.com/hsx-450.aspx
>>6342412
Yea I know what you mean. I love god gundam, but for mine Im planning on switching the blues for red/black and swtich the yellow parts to gold while keeping most of the white parts the same color
>>6342424
I'd considered even just painting all the Blues a dark gray and using a darker red for an overall more muted tone. Maybe even a darker white for the white parts if that makes sense. Not quite a gray, but something less bright.
Did you ever play this game?

>>6342544
Non gundam guy here.
You guys having all the same reaction is hilarious, are "p-bandai" kits really that special?
>>6342589
It's nearly the same kit with a different color or a new part or two for twice the money. Only snapfags who can't paint or mod treat them like sacred objects.
>>6342592

>>6342613
I should note that the Zaku I has its head and chest plate, but they are going to need some repairing.
If you're just a snap fag, it still comes with a ton of weapons, and I'll throw in some 1/144 Zaku water slides (not new but there's still a lot of decals left I didn't use)
>>6342592
I don't mind if it's just a repaint like the millionth Zaku II recolor, but the Heavyarms has some unique shit in it.
>>6342589
P-Bandai kits are only sold and shipped to Japanese addresses. Thus, we can't buy them directly and have to go through middleman services, which makes them pricier and more of a hassle to obtain.
In this case, on top of that the Heavyarms Custom is one of the more desirable exclusives in recent memory, and the price is pretty high on the aftermarket (I think the original retail was like 6k yen, it sells for over $100 regularly now). It's a kit that people have wanted for many years, so this isn't a surprise. It has quite a lot of new stuff compared to the normal Heavyarms, like a new gatling chest panel, two HUGE new weapons, and the clown mask.
>>6342691
>clown mask
huh?
>>6342701
The pilot, Trowa Barton, was a circus clown at one point. The Heavyarms Custom in the movie has a half-face clown mask identical to the one he wore.
Got more of the white done yesterday. Hopfully it won't. Be a rainout like last night.
>>6342778
I'm really liking the look - how are you painting it?
>>6342778
GREAT colours dude. Really digging that finish
>>6342778
looks amazing
Hey guys, I have a questions regarding the Ver. Ka Sinanju
How hard am I supposed to push to get this joint to connect???? I feel like it'll break if I push any harder, but it won't connect properly for some reason.
I read a ton of rave reviews about this kit so I was really glad I bought it, but the build has been pretty annoying due to the fact that it's not using poly caps.
All the joints are very very tight and I constantly feel like I'm going to break something if I move it around.
I sprayed the inner frame parts with a thin coat of metallic greay (I used warhammer Led Belcher spray)
Does that thin coat really make that big of a difference??
Have any of you had any problems with the joints on thus kit?
I love how it looks, but it's been a real fucking bitch to build because it's been so stiff
>>6342881
Don't know why the photo was posted sideways...
But it's the torso that won't fully connect to the waist.
It looks really cool, but I'm honestly never going to buy another kit that doesn't have polycaps.
Anyone ever done anything to improve articulation on the old G Gundam master grades? I'm thinking of trying something to increase the ROM for the legs and shoulders, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
If anyone else has done it, I'd be appreciative of some advice.
Have a cool kitbash in return.
>>6340476
Yes, it was. Is it standard practice for this seller to include bags of gravel with orders?
>>6342881
>>6342885
>ver ka sinanju
Oh dear, that's the one where people have snapped the waist because of that connection in the waist, its tight and all that upper body weight only makes him even more fragile.
And while the ova version "helps" a little by using a softer more flexible plastic it'll just sag over time anyway.
My advice since you have it is learn how to "pin" it back together, chances are its gonna snap at some point and glue alone won't save its broken ass.
Also pro tip-avoid painting over connection points, if its not affection the plastic themselves (polycaps etc) it tightens joints to worrying degrees, it may seem fine on hg kits but it can become a problem later down the line, so best mask stuff like waist pegs etc.
(As for why the photo came up sideways I assume you're on mobile, if you edit the image by even by one pixel I've been told it fixes that before uploading)
>>6342412
>As it stands, the God Gundam colors are just too candy colored or something
I felt the same way about Shining Gundam. I gave it a metallic paint job and it looks so much better than the standard colors.
>alright time to try topcoating
>weather report says it's going to be at least a solid week of rain
should i just end it all now
>>6342939
Looks sharp. What metallic paints did you use?
>>6342916
Odd I haven't run into anybody talking about that.
Yeah, I kinda regret not masking the connection point off before spraying.
I don't think I'm going to force it further down. It looks ok as it is.
I'm just kinda sad that it's a Ver. Ka but has problems like that. All the joints are so tight.
Does the regular MG Sinanju have polycaps?
I was recently in Tokyo for a month and bought a lot of kits. The Sinanju is the second most expensive I've bought next to the PG Unicorn, so I'm kinda sad it's like that. But it does look sick when it's put together.
I also bought the Ver. Ka Nu Gundam that I hope will be a smoother build.
>>6342943
Tamyia metallic red and blue, gold for the yellow pieces, and then a pearl clear coat on the white. I only used rattle cans and it was my first time painting. I think it came out pretty good for my first time.
>find out Tamiya top coat rattlecans are lacquer
>thought they were acrylic
>been spraying them without a respirator
I'm fucked, aren't I
>>6342954
The smell didn't give it away?
>>6342960
I usually only topcoat my kits, so I don't know how acrylic stuff smells
>>6342945
Theres an aftermarket part for the MG Sinanju thats' about 5 bucks shipped thats a metal peg that replaces the one that always fucking breaks.

>>6343012

>>6343012
Nothing is safe to inhale, don't you know that, son?
>>6342954
Protip.
If its a spraycan, its full of shit you don't want to inhale even if its acrylic.
Acrylic =/= water based. There are a bunch of water based acrylics you can buy for airbrushing and handbrushing, but if its in a can it isn't water based.
>>6343038
>plastic dust mixed with water is somehow safe to inhale
Gundamguy isn't updating anymore, and Gunjap updates at a trickle. I need a good new plamo news site, do you guys have any recommendations?
>>6343005
I actually really like how the reds came out. They look good. I was less happy with the blue though. I'm not sure if it was the paint of the fact I probably should've done a third coat.
>>6341235
>System Weapon line
that line is dead isn't it? The last one was probably around the same time as the last Assault Kingdom as well, guess they could no longer justify the costs of outsourcing to china anymore.
>>6342322
>>6342313
i thought in the lore all the gunpla was all plastic, and the magic of the crystal tech makes the plastic become 'real'. With the occassional metal parts being put in because better quality models result in better magic or some WIZARD DID IT reasoning. I don't recall anyone mentioning having built a majority of a gunpla out of metal parts in the series.
Of course the lore and logic in universe for that series is never really consistent since there really is little need for it. so who knows.
>>6342341
the Krylon definitely looks worst then the Liquetex in this case. A bit on the thick side.
>>6343054

>It has quite a lot of new stuff compared to the normal Heavyarms,
95% of the kit is the exact same thing.
I still don't understand why people get so up in arms about the EW kits. Literally the only difference between the ones we have and the P-Bandai ones are a paintjob and some different weapons. In what world would dumping all of those into general release be fiscally sound?
>>6343256
Altron was unique enough to be a normal release in my opinion.
How much are you willing to pay for a Bendi gunpla?
>>6343259
A doubled ended version of the existing trident weapon and a symmetric pair of new weapons. And I guess a new v-fin, if you count redesigning the existing one to be two colors.

>>6343517
Your MG Sinanju has really noticeable nubs, but considering how annoying applying those stickers must have been I guess I can't blame you for getting sloppy elsewhere. But at least consider lining the insides of the yellow verniers.
Musha Gundam looks nice, I guess? I don't see any nubs offhand, though 'm not turning my monitor upside down to check more closely. You really should have it be kneeling in seiza or something though.
>>6343524
Yeah the stickers were a pain and I was a little excited to just build I do plan on cleaning them up when I get into my new place. I wanted them built before the move in a few days.
I pray I have figured this picture thing out
>>6343524
I plan on having some better posing when I have more space and I'm not living in a dorm room
>>6342881
I suggest you sand down a little bit the round peg that connects the torso to the waist, precisely to avoid it from snapping due to friction
>>6343529
Hey, could you happen to give me the dimensions of the "stage" and how tall the weapons on their stands are? I would greatly appreciate it, google has failed me.

>>6342877
Thanks. Painting is:
Mr surfaced 1000 for primer the rest is tamiya
Frame: dark grey with light grey highlights
White: preshade light grey then white
Yellow: light grey and yellow
Blue; dark grey and sky blue mix with about 4 other blues in the pot a year ago and I'll never remember that wonderful combination again cause I'm too stupid to write it down.
Yellow: light grey and yellow
The clear coat is alclad aqua gloss because I find it to be less crappy than future which never worked well with me or how I airbrush.
Panel lining is abtulung (sp?) starship filth which I'm in love with now.
>>6343161
Sorry. I either go nuts in cockpits or never really touch them as they won't be shown or are a showcase, this one isn't being shown so nothing special.
Newfag brought here by FA Girls.
Thinking of getting one or two kits like the Hi-Mock to start off, so I can have a bit of practice to not screw up Baselard whenever I get her. She looks fine out of the box going by pictures, but these plastic spoons in the guide sure look tempting. Do I dare try to top coat it? (I've worked with spray can painting a couple times before.)
My question is, when I inevitably mess up in some way (on building the kit in general, not just the top coat), how correctable do mistakes tend to be? Like for instance, do models come with any spare parts, or do you only get one chance?
>>6343578
For sure. I'm going out to a movie currently but I'll get back to you when I'm home. Looking to get the kit or just curious?
>>6343597
Cool, thanks. Looking to get it, just made a shelf out of an old metal drawer thing and I was looking for something a good size to put in it and the colors fit nicely. It looks like I'll roughly have the space needed based on the pictures I've found and the average height of an MG but it might be a tight fit height wise.
Is there any way to get the pre-shading effect if you're limited to tamiya spray cans? I like the look but could only find tutorials using either air brushes or hand painting.
>>6343591
Mistakes can be fixed, but kits generally don't come with any spare parts, and unless you're really trying, fucking up too bad shouldn't be a problem. For a $10 Hi-Mock, you can safely fuck up without too much of a loss.
And yeah, go ahead and try topcoating, just make sure you're not in a gas chamber and wear a respirator when you do it.
>>6343710
Buck up and get an airbrush. Really the only decent amswer.
>>6342229
that's a goop tip anon, i will try that, ty!
got some work done tonight, painted the arms and drills and i added some scratchbuild hooverpads
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7jGIc695Rc&feature=youtu.be it's alive! what do you think /plammo
>>6343710
Nope.
Postshade and blend with color pencils, and specifically the ones they tell you in the Mecha Musume generals.
>>6343716
Ah, good. Though I was more worried about fucking up Baselard with her many more nooks and crannies.
The sort of mistakes I'm thinking about would be, for instance, overdoing it on the topcoating. If I go overboard with it, would there be any fix to that?
I guess I'll practice beforehand on plasticware or something.
>>6343845
All you have to do is strip the paint and start over. A bottle of alcohol and patience is all you need for that, not a difficult fuck up at all if you even manage it.
>>6343710
use pastels to postshade
preshading looks like ass anyway
>>6342994
Yes but, you still have that white or dark spot where the runner was.
>>6343161
Comments been bugging me all day actually. Despite my previous comment I quickly painted the chair and gave it all a wash. Once that dries I'll see if I can't paint the monitors. It's not gonna have joy sticks or throttle controls or seatbelts, but it'll be something.
>>6343610
So this is awkward but I don't have a ruler or something at the house. I can tell you though the back drop with the base is a hair over two soda cans tall and the weapons maybe an inch and a half more. It's just about two soda cans laying down in width and about 1 2/3s cans deep. I'm sorry I'm a pile of shit but that's all I got.
>>6343891
not if you sand it properly
WTB: used/broken gunpla for customs and extra parts. Want to give your disabled Gundams a loving home? I'm willing to help you out! Tell me what you have, how damaged they are, and what you'd part with them for and we could work something out.
I'm especially looking for the following as of right now:
>HG SEED Strike Freedom: The old HG, not the new one, and I'm looking for specifically the entire arm sections, I'd even be happy with the 3rd party/bootleg kits if you have one
>The HGUC Gundam NT-1 Alex, specifically the legs
Feel free to contact me about anything you have though. Please if you're interested send me an email and reply here so I know when to check it.
>>6344066
no worries, soda can is just under 5 inches, it works
Sanding and prebuild done. Was wondering if anybody had good results with vallejo surface primer undercoat then tamiya top coat?
>>6343887
>preshading looks like ass anyway
t.poorfag who can't afford an airbrush
>>6343710
Nope sorry guy. That would be mental to try and can spray that on there. Better off using a handpainted undercoat or a wash
>>6344135
Truly it's a beautiful kit. I recommend it highly.
>>6343801
That's cute!
Agg is cute!
>>6343256
The thing is they appeard in the ew movie while the redesigns didnt.
So wouldnt it be a better idea to sell the movie gundams as normal releases?
Also bandai released alot of kits with little to no variations before. so i dont get why there doing it like this now.
>>6344198
What makes more sense: selling the upgrades first, or the regular versions?
And the reason they stopped selling countless minor variations of the same mold as separate kits is because a) they've come to realize that every general release kit is something they have to guarantee they'll print for years, so there's a huge emphasis on choosing wisely these days and b) 00 proved consumers wouldn't bite on The Exact Same Design But With One Different Runner.
The only series that seemed to have enough clout to get away with that shit was Unicorn, and seeing how Banshee Norn and Jesta Cannon were moved to P-Bandai I can only assume it didn't work out. I mean really, who is going to buy the regular MG ReZEL when there's the commander type or the Type C?
>>6344198
>Also bandai released alot of kits with little to no variations before. so i dont get why there doing it like this now.
Because P-Bandai makes them more money. They get to charge slightly higher (in Japan, anyways) prices, they don't have to put as much effort into the engineering as a general release would usually demand (Strike Rouge Ootori was explicitly supposed to be P-Bandai, and it was sticker hell) because they're selling directly to fans who will be okay with anything as long as it exists, and they don't need to worry about unsold stock.
It works out perfectly for everyone but people who missed the selling window. And, you know, people who don't live in Japan.
So I'm looking to buy the supplies needed. Upon mentioning to someone else I was getting sandpaper for gunpla, he said emery cloth might be preferable.
I'm assuming their grits don't correlate? Since I'm seeing 400 and 1000 for sandpaper, and 60, 120, 180 for emery cloth.
>>6344250
Just go to a local hobby store and get some sanding sticks
>>6344250
Emery cloth is used for final sanding/polishing of wood and metal. Your dad probably thinks that sandpaper for woodwork and metal is too coarse for plastics, and they are because they typically start at 60 grit. For plastics you can start at 400 grit sandpaper.
>>6344218
>>6344223
Fair enough.
Didnt put that into account.
I still think they should be normal releases, because they appeared in the ew movie while the normal heavyarms is just a redesign which should have been a p-bandai( but yeah it wasnt implemented back then)
i still agree that anything with minor diferences should be a p-bandai
Like novel ver of the delta plus or something.
>>6344279
Ideally, P-Bandai should only be used for tiny variants, yes. Things that have such a specific niche audience that they are in danger of only selling a small amount. Lately we've been seeing more and more popular and/or highly modified designs go to P-Bandai though, which makes me very unhappy.
>>6343256
It's a big deal to a lot of people. Like yeah, painting up a standard Heavyarms isn't that big of a deal, but scratchbuilding a new gatling chest, those huge twin miniguns, and the clown mask would be a huge pain in the ass. Their decision to make those kits P-Bandai honestly makes a lot of sense for Japan, since Wing only did okay over there. But they should have offered those to Bluefin for standard distro, since it was HUGELY popular over here. I feel like it was either a poor decision, or that fact wasn't adequately communicated to those in charge.
>>6343908
Damn nice Anon. Look forward to it finished.
Is it a MG or RG?
How does one get plaplate to bend like that?
Careful heating?
>>6344312
Should of been specific, I mean the curving on the legs.
>>6344312
>>6344316
You can also pass an open flame under the styrene strip back/forth for about 5 to 10 seconds, it's convenient for a single, inaccurate bend. Don't do it for too long or too near, the styrene will catch fire.
>>6344312
Impressive. Source?
So, let's say I want Victory Gundam Ver. Ka, and am not interested in ever transforming it. I just want it as a standalone robot. How outdated is it, and how much suffering am I in for?
>>6344301
It's most definitely the origin versiuon
RIP Hobbywave. They're having a going out of business sale if anyone's interested. There's not a lot left though.
>HLJ contest winners announced.
This guy got robbed. He easily deserved first place rather than second in the advanced category.
>>6344464
I mean just look at this shit.
Here's something I've been working on. I really like the kit, but I've hit a wall on what to do for the backpack and back skirt. I'm also playing with the idea of thinning the waist and adding a bit more height to the heels.
>>6344464
>>6344470
I agree. The diorama that won first is ok, but it's not even that great. The actual landscape is not done that well and the kits don't appear to be very heavily modified, if at all. Compared to the amount of scratchbuilding on that Gampf, there should have been no contest.
I'm also mad this didn't place higher. It took a moment for me to understand, but it's fucking Streex!!!! From Street Sharks!!!! Made of a Ma.K SAFS!
Anyone used mica red tamiya paint? I'm working on a God Gundam, and I wanted to repaint the red parts to be a little darker. I cant find a good picture of the mica on google.
>>6344483
im a newfag just saw this JAWESOME picture while scrolling toy/.
Where can i buy this? Or this is not for sale?
Please do you have more photos? I need at least just photos
>>6344169
I've got a few things to finish up first but that's definitely at the top of the purchase list

Scroll down.
And no, you can't buy it, it's a heavily customized model kit that just won in a contest.
>>6344649
Its a custom of an Ma.K kit someone made for a modeling contest at hlj.
>HLJ contest finally over
I guess I can post my submission on /toy/ now.
>>6344676
Here was mine.
>>6344676
That looks good anon.
>>6344718
This also looks good.
>>6344772
You look good anon
Gunpla/plamo general, a thread of good looking refined gentlemen.
>>6344718
love the shoulder guns but the soil looks weird, like it has a bunch of air bubbles or something
also heavy preshading on dark parts doesn't match subtle preshading on white
>>6344800
Yeah, I'm not too happy about either of those and was rushing to finish at the end, especially the base which I should probably have just left out entirely. I was also going to weather it a bit but ran out of time. The "Bubbles" are actually little pebbles and grit and are drybushed and look a bit better in person but the camera didn't pick up most of it. Really happy with how the mobile worker and head LED came out though.
Oh well, it was good experiance towards my gbwc project.
Mega Unicorn yet?
>>6344825
>little pebbles
it's not so much the pebbles, it's the tiny holes (or what looks like holes) that look unnatural
>>6344470
What did he use to fix the cables in position?
>>6344718
Nice work anon. What was the base kit of that? I love that style of mecha but know fuck all about Gundam aside from "I like building robots"
>>6344886
Looks like a 6th form Barbatos and a Graze custom parts.
I would like to buy a plamo of the Mutsu battleship. What brand makes the best version of the ship, Fujimi or Aoshima? Anyone got one of those and can post some photos of the completed kit? (A link to a review is fine too).
>>6344902
literally google
>>6344390
MG Victory is a really cool build. If you glue it together you don't have to worry too much about it falling apart, either. Just don't expect to be able to do any cool poses with it. And if you don't glue it ahahahaha holy shit.
Grab the Core Booster add-on so it can at least look impressive standing there.
>>6344886
Its mostly this with a few small parts from some other kits. The figures are actually a Felinini and a Meijin painted with green jackets.
>>6344874
Thanks, and yeah, like I said I'm not happy with the base. Like at all. Should have just had him stand on an action base 1 or something when I saw how it came out.
What are the decals you used from? The hg wing zero honoo doesn't come with any.
>>6344282
Why don't you just take all of that from the existing HG 1/100 kit?
Hell, I'm pretty sure somebody around here did just that to make their own MG Altron.
>>6344936
http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=153210&view=previous
Different ship.
>>6344411
Origin version?
Is that a RG?
>>6344483
I really do not like the diorama that won.
I mean, what's great about dioramas is that they let you tell a story, not only they may look cool but you can share info of what happened before and guide the viewer to wonder what is about to happen. You can create a whole exiting setup up around it.
See for example the white robot at fourth place, you can tell there is a war trenches and all, you can tell that guy has been trough some shit, you can see the troops running around implying it is far from over.
Now look at the Stug on the third place, it's dusty, slightly damaged and it seems to be on a dug in position, but other than it does not tell a story, no context. Is the war over or will they face battle? Why are they so relaxed? It's just a nice photo but nothing else.
>>6345202
And then there is the first place, which goes into the complete opposite by confusing you while trying to understand what the fuck are you watching and what's the idea behind it. In order to work it has to make sense, but instead of hints there is just random info all over the place. They have chains over them, the gundam is wearing a cape, they are covered in mud, but those facts do not explain anything, if you see the wheels of a vehicle covered in mud it means it has been rolling around, if it has scratches on the sharp edges it may mean it has been around vegetation, chipping on top parts may mean sitting under the rain for too long. But when there is for example mud all over the place, the point is moot. What happened before? No idea. What will happen? heck I don't know. The whole setup feels like a cool photo, with a bunch of random stuff to make it look as cool as possible but without any real meaning.
>>6344993
>Different ship.
no shit, it's a carrier
next time I'll post completely unrelated picture but the advice still stands
>>6345270
So what is your point, if you have any?
What would be a good material to use for a thin wire that could spool? I'm thinking of having blades attached to a kind of wire or filament but it would be nice if I could pose with something semi-transparent, and thinner than the usual insulated copper wire they include for grappling hooks and the like.
>>6345208
I feel like it would have been better with just the zoids kit, for some reason the idea of a huge mechanical beast being tied down with chains and abandoned kind of sounds cool to me.
Though I guess the chains are just randomly tossed on...
>>6342881
>>6343558
>>6342916
Sinanju guy here
I think I'm going to sand the peg down a tiny bit and see if it will pop in
I finished building the backpack, shield and weapons but I'm having a massive amount of trouble putting the fucking backpack on now too.
The backpack just won't connect properly either... It's like it won't get all the way in so I can slide it down to the proper connection.
I checked everything multiple times to make sure everything is put together properly, but it just won't fucking let me connect the backpack properly to the torso.....
Anybody had trouble with that too????? And more importantly, anybody know of a solution to connect the backpack?
I'm actually kinda sad and pissed at the same time... I read so much good shit about the Sinanju, but it's pretty much been nothing but trouble for me :(
I just want to finish it so I can start on my PG Unicorn, which is probably going to feel easier to build because it'll just connect... even with all the LED's
Getting through the backlog
>>6344902
Very few folk here in gunpla would have that. your best bet is either do more googling or give scale model general a try, since this is a scale military model and we don't really touch those much.
>>6344866
You mean on the torso? I'm guessing it's an internal wire with the cables strapped or glued around it. Just like the arm. Look at that WIP photo and you can see some armature wire holding the elbow together, which is concealed with wires in the final.
>>6344975
If I'm already shelling out money on a MG Heavyarms, the paints I need, and the HG 1/100 (which also leaves me with a junk kit I don't want after I take the weapons), on top of which I need to modify all the 1/100's gear to get it to fit the MG properly, why don't I just save myself a lot of time and hassle and get the exclusive kit for like $25 more at that point?
>>6344546
I've used it before for painting my hashmal. it comes out looking metallic but a flat coat dulls it out some of the brightness.
don't have my hashmal on my but I used mica blue on pic related with a flat coat.
>>6345337
ah yes, the stupid backpack connector
I too had trouble attaching it, I can't give you other advice than exercise a lot of pressure to allow the connector to be inserted and then slide down as intended
obviously you won't remove it after that, like ever
>>6345443
are those the stickers on the symbols?
>>6345208
>random stuff to make it look as cool as possible but without any real meaning
You described my thoughts perfectly...it's like they ran down a checklist of shit they thought was "badass."
>Abandoned mecha...check!
>Overgrown weeds...check!
>Weathered...check!
>Random chains...check!
>GOTTA have a cloak/cape...check!
There is no coherence here and it's just crowded and confusing. They could have created a striking scene with just the Liger alone, perhaps chained to the ground instead of randomly draped with chains, and maybe some tiny people in the scene discovering it sealed away after hundreds of years. It's a trite and overdone concept, but at least it's got a distinct narrative and creates a "moment" for us. What they ended up doing in reality is extremely weak.
>>6345445
yes
>>6345450
I thought so, they seemed too flat to have been painted. But those glossy stickers look like they work well pretty with the metallic finish
>>6344970
>What are the decals you used from?
They're third party water decals for the MG Astray iirc; got it as a freebie from a local seller.
What about yours?
Did past-you do a good job on his first kit?
I didn't.
>>6344902
with military plamo, googling is a necessity, because sometimes youll get ancient reboxed kits, or just downright rubbish kits. Scalemates and various other modelling forums is where I get my info from
>>6345386
speak for yourself fuckface, this has been a plamo thread from the very beginning
>>6345208
I feel the same regarding that first place, the guy that did the Gampf deserved first place in my opinion
anyways, that fourth place that built a 1/72 VF-0S Reactive Armored valk prompted me to go and purchase one, I really dig the bulk
Broke my first V fin tonight reposing my Astray. That's what I get for touching an RG after getting it to stand in one place for more than ten seconds.

>Judges are snapfags that run a store that sells plamo.
>The entry with a bunch of pricier kits shoved together onto a base won over the kit with heavy scratchbuilding despite a clear difference in skill.
No surprise. And is that Liger even painted? It looks likey they just glopped rust onto the bare plastic.
Weather has either been too hot or just stormy to do anything. Snapped an Astaroth with some handpainting.
>>6344369
Sorry for the late reply. Was trying to trace back to it: http://kampfer-amazing.tumblr.com/post/157093194519
>>6345787
I just didn't do anywhere near enough sanding. There would still be nub marks if I did but if I wanted I could still go back and clean most of them up. That and forgetting to line before flat coating on two pieces left me with some really heavy panel lines, but again that's an easy fix. I think I'm going to leave it just as a reminder though.
>>6345787
I didn't sand enough and the panel lines are too messy.
And there I was worried MCM wouldn't have a good selection of gunpla.
The Bandai stall was fucking awful though.
>>6345787
Hell no, I didn't even have any proper nippers. The ones I had gotten were absolutely HUGE.
I didn't have sandpaper, and I used a scalpel instead of an xacto knife. I'm amazed I only made myself bleed once.
>>6345787

>>6346168
>>6346154
I built a rose gundam HG when I was about 10 or so. I don't have it anymore, but I know I didn't use nippers or sandpaper for anything. If I knew where it was, I'd guarantee it's a nubby mess.
So, is there a goddamn glosscote embargo or what? My local hobby store has been out for three weeks and apparently isn't planning on getting more, I dove a hour to the next town over to find their Hobby Lobby was also out, and 3oz rattlecans are fucking 40 bucks a pop on Amazon.

Hey guys, help a brother make a decision. I wanna get my first MG kit of the OG Gundam, but there's two different versions. Should I get this one...
>>6346469
...or this one? They're both the same price, the only difference I can tell is Gundam The Origin comes with some Effect parts and different accessories.
>>6346471
>>6346469
The 3.0's design is based off the 1:1 statue and the RG, so you get tons of colour separation and a really detailed design.
The Origin is based of the design from the Origin Manga, so you get different proportions compared to the usual RX-78-2, along with a bitchin' shoulder cannon, Alex-like arm vulcans and some effect parts.
The Origin lacks a Core Fighter too, which makes the waist more stable, but at the same time you're lacking a Core Fighter.
Those are the major differences. They're both fine models, so pick whichever one you like the most.
my haul today

No pics at the moment, but I've got a MC Model Penelope as my biggest kit (thought I was getting it for a steal using Taobao, until Bhiner sent me the shipping charges), with the rarest being a clear Origin Guntank and (unbuilt) G-Saviour.
Current grails are the Bandai 1/20 Gundam CharaColle set, and the resin Dreizehn kit made by a group called AMBIVALENT.
Holy shit doing all the panels on this kit took fucking forever, even using a wash.
>>6347028
The TIE Interceptor is similar. I spent probably twice as long panel lining it as I did anything.

It was nubby, unwelded, unlined and without topcoat but I was still proud of his taste. I guess I shouldn't have been as surprised as I was since he watches anime and painted a few miniatures.
So, the kit's great. Is the manga any good?
