New 1:18 thread. A lot of talk going on about the new hacks, lets get this new thread going

>1:18 scale thread
>not G.I. Joe and 1:18 General as its always been.
Why OP? Why?
>>
I wish the anubis or rat people came with legs like this, any idea how I could custom something like that?
>>
>>6335989
G.I. Joe is no more, accept it
>>
>>6335989
I don't show favorites to my 1:18 lines! Nah I'm just sick right now and threw that picture together real quick to get the new thread going. But you get the picture anyway
>>
>>6335992
Looks like something it can be done with only a new feet but the figure stability will suffer

I want to have a female knight body in series 2, for a female rat knight scavenger/adventurer
>>
reminder this guys are also 1:18 scale

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thekingdomcomic/animal-warriors-of-the-kingdom-series-1/description

It will be great if the armor packs will fit on BFS blanks and the greek BFS armors on them

At least it seems the head hole will be the same so you can use a black one for the anubis

I don't know what you think but for me the fantasy line it's... "meh" the only thing original is the naga guy and the female ork, the only thing it can save this line for me is a male and female werewolf (barbarian, thieves or cursed knight order with human and beast heads), female knight armor, maybe a beast looking gargoyle or some half dragon people/dragonkin.

Fantasy have a lot of cool original possibilities and I find at least half of the fantasy figures really boring, series 3 look much better.

Also I think the convention and collector club exclusive idea is a huge crock of shit.

Yeah that's been sort of putting me off a lot of these smaller 1:18 toy lines and kickstarter stuff. 1:18 used to be more affordable, Joes were about 7 to 11 dollars 5-ish years ago. 20 to 30 dollars for one 4 inch figure is a tough pill to swallow.

>>6337685
M&C toys is a Hong Kong company right? Too bad they don't revamp their Power Team Elite figures to be more on par with Joe quality. Maybe they already know it's not worth the effort?
>>
>>6337764
I know what you mean. Been wanting to get into Hiya aliens, so I've been trolling eBay for a lot or two. People severely overestimate how much their shit is worth. The best deal I've seen so far is 2 marines and 4 aliens for 200 plus shipping - about 50 bucks more than what buying them separately would be
>>
>>6337657
I love predators though, I just don't like Hiya's pricepoint.

>>6337665
I know this is a silly way of looking at it, but in my mind a figure less than half the size of another figure with less paint apps and articulation should cost about half as much. These aren't exactly high end toys.

>>6337764
I've been eyeing up the colonial marine Xenos for years now, every time I go to pull the trigger my wallet tells me "no, that's too much for a 1:18 figure". They never seem to go on sale either, somebody must be buying these things.

They were on sale on Amazon for $16.99 a while back so I snagged several of them. They are the best Alien figures at this scale. I also snagged a revoltech Alien queen. Im sure its a knockoff because it was dirt cheap but it looks great in hand. I also have the Predators pre-ordered, as they are going to be more expensive later on.

I collect a lot of lines, and it's weird how scale doesn't always equate with price. Cu-Poches are cheaper than Nendoroids, for example, and for dolls, a Dearmine Pet is 20 cm and 220 bucks, but a Lover is 40 cm and only 300. But then a 1/6 Pure neemo is just about double what a 1/12 Picco neemo costs.

Well, they kind of did. From what I saw, the PLA figures they released were a marked improvement over the original ones. Unfortunately, they never got imported. I just knew they were gonna do an Anglo head-swap on them and add them to the sets bound for the US, but it didn't happen.

Those heads do look better than the older ones; though I like the cocky grin and expression on some of my older PTE figures. What kind of paint (make, type etc) did you use? was it the blue or green Flint btw? and is all with a tiny brush or is there some secret to achieve joe cammo? I mean I've seen other customs where they over do it trying to look realistic but realistic looks like shit at this scale.

Green

>and is all with a tiny brush or is there some secret to achieve joe cammo?
Yes, the figure was painted with different sizes of paint brushes. I try to paint my customs so they will fit in with the rest of figures in my collection. If i go too crazy with weathering or camo, etc.. they will stand out too much.

True as that is most of these characters do look quite similar to one another. I quite like the look of some of them so if the price is right and accessories look good I'll probably be in for a few of them (there's no picture of him but The Black Terror is probably at the top of that want list).

Its more of a combination of LEGO and Bandai.

The actual Knex kit is cheaply done. It wobbles, it uses stickers, and isn't very poseable.

That said, it's still worth it if you're going to customize it and add paint. Just leave the cockpit empty. Don't insert the seat, because 1:18 figures only fit in there without it.

Yes and no.

Hasbro has stated they plan on rebooting the movie series (partly because they have given up hope to get the Rock to come back for GI Joe 3) and a new toyline

BUT it's a monkey's paw type deal in a couple of major ways that have people wishing the line was dead instead:

1. Hasbro intends to SJW up the series to the extreme to appeal to Millennial scum and have singled out the recent decision in the comics to replace Salvo (a white muscular guy) with a fat (and I do mean fat fuck land whale) black lesbian as what they are aiming for in terms of direction

2. It will be part of a "Shared Universe" type deal with the Bay Transformers films, along with planned SJW friendly In Name Only MASK and ROM the Space Knight ands Micronauts.

Guess I should dig around to see what their rationale for the "new and improved" Salvo is. Have to wonder why they don't just make a new character; a hefty black woman COULD be an interesting addition to the Joe team IF it were written well. But there's no need to overwrite old characters is there?

It feels like strong male role models in American cartoons and toys are slowly being whittled away. I read some of the shared universe Transformers / Joe the first time they tried it; that got pretty wacky but maybe they can pull it off.
>>
>>6349059
>Guess I should dig around to see what their rationale for the "new and improved" Salvo is.
Their rationale for this shit is always the same. Sales go down, they realize the target audience is getting older, so they feel like they need to attract new readers, and they don't know how.

Their best guess right now is half-assed SJW bullshit but that never works(why would SJWs want to read a war comic?) because SJWs are not consumers they're complainers.
>>
>>6349067

GI JOE is no more, bury it, I don't want to see the brand go the way of The simpsons, I already lived through Star brigade no need to do it again.
>>
>>6349276
>GI JOE is no more, bury it
The reason it's failing is because they keep trying to recreate the success of the 80s.

When the franchise was relaunched in the 80s it was not even 20 years after the original GI Joe started, and they changed it top to bottom. Different scale different characters different focus.

Now it's 35 fucking years after THAT reboot and they're still trying to wring more $$$ out of the 80s IP.

Throw everything out, INCLUDING SNAKE EYES. Start over with a fresh perspective, new characters, new focus.

If you stick with nostalgia IP but NEW! AND DIFFERENT! all you do alienate the hardcore fans and the new fans will continue to fail to materialize.
>>
>>6349283
No the problem is SJW bullshit combined with some super-duper questionable bullshit.

1. They pulled the same bullshit they did with My Little Pony/TF in that they tried to limit the cast to 5-7 characters, none of them being characters fans LIKED. Duke and Heavy Duty being the two biggest duds character-wise, while characters like Lady Jaye, Roadblock, Shipwreck, Dial Tone, and Beachhead get the shaft).

2. Pussying out on Cobra. They are downright terrified of dealing with Cobra due to the implications of having a terrorist group as a major part of the franchise.

3. Not embracing the Call of Duty/Metal Gear Solid sci-fi black ops zeitgeist at the height of it's popularity. Case in point, part of what made Pursuit of Cobra work was how it aped aspects of Call of Duty and Predator in terms of character design/character choices.

anyone who blames the shift in nerd culture on imaginary SJWs is a fucking idiot. plain and simple.

large companies invest millions of dollars in market research, acquiring and keeping talent, and product development. that's before they even get to mass production and marketing of whatever product. and before all that is the fact that any given company has its balls in the teeth of stockholders who don't give a shit about anything accept higher stock prices and dividend payouts.

you think that whining teenage girls on Tumblr mean a puddle of piss to a billion dollar company like Hasbro? you really think that Hasbro will turn deaf ears to the howling of fans at its terrible movies, but will crumple when randos on Twitter criticize Arcee's boob size?

do you really think a company will risk billions in sales trying to deliver a product no one wants to an audience that will never buy it? SJWs are imaginary, and you are stupid, my friend.

then, its a company trying to innovate and making missteps. that's what happens when you do new things. you risk fucking it up. you know what else could happen? the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

There is no such thing as an SJW. the norms of modern society are evolving. shit that we used to laugh at because it was rude, is not funny anymore. its just rude. Companies that want to do business have to look at who they want to sell to, and figure out what they want. You can't make a billion dollars by doing the same work that earned you a few hundred thousand. You have to figure out what will please the widest audience possible, (not just your core audience) and you have to try something new.

>shit that we used to laugh at because it was rude, is not funny anymore.
Nah, fuck off.
Shit will always be funny, because it came out when people weren't overly sensitive Millennials who are offended by almost everything. So all the people who enjoyed it before Millenials came into adult society can still like it and tell them to fuck off, because to many of people it was the norm to laugh at it.
Anyone who does laugh is seen as racist/ignorant/bigotted/etc but people still laugh anyway.... but these people don't count, do they?

Your argument amounts to no True Scotsman, because to go against what Milenials believe amounts to being from /pol/, despite people just various things funny and not actually being racist/bigotted/etc.

There's lots and lots of cases where media personalities have to self censor or apologize, because of complaints.
Sure, there's the outward norms, but people in general do not match up with that and why various NOT normative behaviors/movies/celebrities/PRESIDENTS become popular, because the outward norm is very suppressive (thanks to SJW). See hippies in the 60s/70s for the opposite of today (and possibly Generation Z).

Also, i do agree that they should make their own character instead of taking an established one and changing them.
I also don't think Hasbro should really change things all that much either. Their missteps have more to do with delays (GI Joe 2) and putting all their properties on a channel few people/kids could access.

At this point, probably not. They're almost a decade old, so waiting for them to show up on eBay is probably the only way you're going to get them.

I would have sworn there was someone casting that style of helmet, but I've been out of the 1:18 and casting game for months, so I don't recall who has what anymore.

Well bois, I did it, I spent $2500 on a giant lot of Acid Rain that has basically every release and multiple army builders. I had one figure and vehicle a few years back, loved them, then sold them when cash was tight.

Cash is still tight, but fuck it, yolo

>>
>>6355958
One of almost every mass release except Victory set, some exclusives including the AMM trooper and Red face, multiples (5-10) of more recent army builders like the forseti, abadon trooper, and the army scout guy. Both strongholds, speeders, and multiple laurels with a focus on Marine laurels. All together it's something like 47 items, which considering the aftermarket prices and that shipping was included with what I paid I am a happy sob.
>>

That's excessive

I like it

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before but I'm looking to get into the acid rain series, does that line scale with the old "the corps" or the new series of corps vehicles ?
>>
>>6356680
Shouldn't be keeping this discussion going but if we keep just talking about Acid Rain somebody's going to get triggered anyway, so here goes:

The shift in nerd culture was because of the sudden massive popularity of comic book movies, video games and the internet starting around 1999. That brought in all the people who would eventually become SJWs into the space that we nerds had set aside for ourselves.

When all this shit was fringe nobody cared what went on in comics etc, but when it became big business that brought on a lot of newbies who started wanting to put their stamp on the shit we've been fans of for decades.

Doctor Who is a microcosm of this - I remember in the 80s that franchise was the nerdiest of all nerd franchises, then the reboot cast attractive-to-women actors as the Doctor and suddenly it became "cool" because teenage girls were into it and the new female fans wanted it to be more reflective of their interests etc. Now it's SJW-city because that's what their new fanbase demands,

To bring it back to GI Joe, GI Joe basically holds no appeal to SJW-types, or girls for the most part. It was designed specifically to appeal to Gen-X boys and that's pretty much all it's ever appealed to(some exceptions aside). The comics are flailing because their blew their wad early on so they're throwing out a lifeline to the SJW crowd because hey, why not.

tl;dr popularity brings SJWs, Hasbro's trying to do the exact opposite and will fail.

>Shit will always be funny, because it came out when people weren't overly sensitive Millennials who are offended by almost everything.
Probably about...a year ago I used to think this way too. After doing some thinking and self-examination, I sort of realized I thought that way because I didn't want to change the way I lived. It was way easier to just keep laughing at the same humor at the expense of others. It feels uncomfortable and troubling to question the way you've always done shit, and it can be even harder to admit you're wrong about something. To be honest, I think it's why a lot of people rail against "sjw" types and opinions. They're used to the things they enjoy even if they're "problematic," and they are uncomfortable with changing their opinions on them.

I came to the realization that racist humor made me vaguely uncomfortable for years, but I'd been sweeping it under the rug, telling myself it was funny because my peers (and society at large) were laughing. So I laughed along with them too. Thing is, when I look back at it, the jokes I used to laugh at just seem kind of shitty and closed-minded. It's not the kind of person I wanna be or the opinions I wanna endorse. I'm sure there ARE people out there who really DO endorse those opinions, and being where I'm posting that just might be you, but it's at least worth asking yourself the question first. Is it really who you wanna be, or are you just going with the flow cause it's easier to keep laughing?

By most, I mean nearly all.

Other than a pun/riddle like 'Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 8 9,' which isn't really even funny, I can't think of a joke that wouldn't offend someone, although in this day and age that might offend someone too.
>>
>>6361792
>It takes really little effort to make fun of people

Is that why almost every black comedian goes right to the "white people" race joke feeding trough?
>>
>>6363059
I think you're seeing this from a bit of a narrow viewpoint. You're supposing that all comedy must offend to be funny, and that all that's left otherwise is jokes out of grade school knock-knock books.

Thing is, good comedy doesn't have to shy away from "sensitive" topics like race. It should, however, strive to say something clever or well-thought out on the topic instead of grabbing for the low-hanging fruit. An example: I saw a Chinese comedian once who got a lot of audience laughs off some jokes about his actual experiences in America, like people continually asking where he was REALLY from. It's kind of a played out joke now, but it was pretty fresh at the time. It brought up an issue without shitting on someone, and his delivery and commentary on the topic were insightful, clever, and truly funny. It was a good example of a non-offensive "Asian joke." Big contrast to the time I saw someone get up on stage and proceed to heckle an Asian audience member for eating dog and driving poorly. Like I said, low hanging fruit. The audience there seemed to respond in kind too, with just some uncomfortable chuckles after that bit.

It's really hard to write solid material and actually make it funny. It's why so many people take that "offensive" low road, and subsequently, probably why you think that's what nearly all comedy is.

>>6363380
>from a bit of a narrow viewpoint.
Actually yeah, because my point was originally "at the expense of others," not necessarily offensive(except in this day and age), but at the expense of others none the less.

Right now a lot of comedy/horror is at the expense of Donald Trump. In your example, the comedian is making jokes at the expense of the prejudiced(not necessarily racist) people and their preconceived notions of him/her. Although, technically, jokes about oneself are still at the expense of another because we are not that person.
>>
>>6364053
>>6364386
Eh, Hiya's stuff is basically NECA tier.
They have great sculpts and paint, but their figures can be pretty brittle and become stuck.

Never broken NECA or Hiya's stuff and know how to avoid breaking their joints when unfreezing them, so I'm pleased with their figures.

I'm one of the armorfags so I felt like the armor was too WoWish and colorful, was hoping for something a little more historically inspired. This doesn't really fix that, but the color difference is what makes it better IMO.
Also for a while we didn't know the knight came with two moving visors. The first one was garbage.
