Sounds like an injection molding defect, but it's hard to prove it to Kotobukiya at this point to get a replacement runner.

What you do normally is you weld a piece of styrene on the inside or the outside of the corner to thicken/reinforce it and sand it down to shape. Just make sure the tolerance/parts fitting is proper BEFORE and AFTER your repair.

Chalk pastels are my preference and I don't use anything fancy. Sure, good ones are pricey, but I'm pretty sure the set I picked up was no more than $5.

This is pretty much so whatever you want to shade with sticks better. Too shiny = not enough grip or grooves for the pastel to latch onto. They refer to the ability for things to stick as 'tooth'.

Cheap. Brand I use was mungyo. Get soft or chalk pastels. Oil is a nightmare. If it's soft enough, you can dab a paintbrush directly on it to pick up some color. You can also make blends by shaving the side of the pastel with a razor and getting a fine powder.

As long as you haven't sealed and it's a minor fuckup, grab an eraser. I use a kneaded eraser because I can get it into smaller places. It also helps soften up harsher areas.

When pleased, seal it with the matte coat. I personally use Mr. Super Clear Flat. Short spray bursts from 20" or so away outside and try to wear a mask.

I've tried this, but even with a matte coat, the pastel color just dryly flaked off the plastic, or went on unevenly. Or even stayed stuck to the paintbrush and never transferred. Any attempts to blend it would remove almost all of the chalk. I was using mungyo, and I tried it with both testors matte enamel and mod podge acrylic with the same results. Chart doesn't require proofs. When I was in Japan I tried to get a bunch of replacement sprues for Jinrai at Akiba's Kotobukiya main store. From what I learnt from the extremely awkward conversation with the clerk, how it works is:

>fill in personal particulars including a JP address (they only ship in japan)
>enclose the total amount of yen
>send it to the address provided and wait for the parts to be mailed to your japanese address

However, your only way is to find someone living in japan willing to collect and ship your sprues for you and send them your money

I'd say FAs are a bit easier initially because of the architect body and FAGs become easier after you build a few since so many steps and pieces are essentially identical.
That being said, both are very easy. A hair above legos if you don't plan to paint.

Weird. Maybe your matte coat was sprayed in high humidity? MSC is notorious for being extremely picky about its spraying conditions. I have to say, I've never used testors matte enamel. I used Dullcote in my early days of dollfaggotry and it worked okay. The pastels do go on light, so you may have to actually do more than one layer to build up the color.

I use a sort of stiff short-fibred flat brush and stroke the pastel into the crevices. If there's still pastel dust, that's okay. You can get one of those pointy qtips from the makeup section of a store and help blend that way (like the anon from the other thread was using with his pencil shading). If it gets splotchy, I would dab at it with the eraser to tone it down.

To make it pop a little better, I used a touch of white to highlight the higher parts. For that Materia, I ended up thinning some pearl paints and painting little hairs which ended up looking pretty neat, but my hands are starting to go the way of Michael J. Fox so I'm not sure I can do that again.
