The silencer on the barrel looks like its integrated and sits on the back in robot mode here: >>6331912

The stock looks like it sucks into the legs in robot mode to beef them up, while the space created when they are transformed into the stock makes the gun mode grip look well proportioned.

The trigger looks like it becomes the crotch and hides in the diaper.

Casey doesn't cost more or less than the other guys. He just works super fast and is constantly churning out things that will require minimal work on the engineering side. The other guys are 3D modelers first and foremost, so they work slower and don't always make things easy for molding or engineering.

MMC is going to start turning out less Cassy projects however. They're just done with his lackluster designs in general.

I could be wrong but I get the sense that this is from an up-and-coming designer, not a rarely used MMC veteran. This is purely speculation, but it looks like it's designed by the same person who fixed Tarn's fuckups before the molds were cast. Hopefully MMC is on the upswing because I was getting tired of looking at Sark's ugly shit.
>>
>>6332187

The person who fixed Tarn was just Griffith who's been around for a long time.

Tarn wasn't 'fixed.' Casey just made a bunch of renders out of a base figure scheme and was shopping it around. Everyone was expecting a Tarn from MMC and when someone leaked this everyone freaked that this was MMC's. Someone else was working on the Tarn we got in the background regardless.

The design ended up being used for Hotrod and Getaway with molding detail to make each character look the part. Well somewhat. Just look at the similarities in the arm joints. The chest track/wheels and the thighs are pretty much exactly the same. The scheme for the feet and backpack are very similar.
>>
Has a 3P company decided to take a crack at an AOE Optimus Prime?

That Lockdown looks very promising since it seems most of the car bits tuck in to make sense of his transformation.

Would something similar be possible with our Once and Future Prime?

The person who designed the Tarn (and the rest of the DJD) that MMC actually put out is this guy: http://byrin.deviantart.com/gallery/
Oddly enough he's also the one who did those early renders of Wing and Drift that were scrapped and I kept seeing people attribute those to Sark which is strange. Does Sark send this guy images and he works on making them 3D renders or is this that's guy's own style?

Huh. I love that you can see an actual seat in his cockpit there.
>>
>>6332569
Psst.

>>
>>6332563
Not really. Reformatted makes more of an attempt to redesign characters into a more modern IDW aesthetic. Sometimes it's accurate to their on-page depiction, sometimes it's totally different, but they at least try to remain within the boundaries of the IDW aesthetic.

Cross Dimension is something entirely different with how they're redesigning them. They just want to do entirely their own thing there.
>>
>>6332563

Not really. Reformatted is basically comic stuff or comic inspired stuff with a green leather spin. Sure they still might be unique but they have a target to stick to. Cross Dimension is MT doing their own thing and having fun making stylized figures and has been a bigger success than they thought.

What I've always wanted is an Optimus figure that revisited the design of the original toy with a bit more fidelity. I like the spindly chrome thighs and how it contrasts with the big shins and feet and I also love the original head sculpt.

Another go at that aesthetic with more articulation and hands that didn't detach would be cool as fuck to me. A lot of the MP figures are faithful enough to the original toys for this to be redundant, but I'd enjoy it for Optimus. Maybe I'm alone, but I love the look of the original toy.
>>

>>
>>6332579

I usually hate that MMC loves to recycle their molds because often lately it leads to them doing things like making 3 characters out of a mold that isn't made to look specifically like any of them and is just sort of made to be a generic buck that approximates a certain TYPE of character for them to build different parts onto when it's like...characters that I think they could do a really great job of making an accurate version of.

But in the case of Wing (who looks fucking incredible) Drift and Blurr I think they will actually pull off making 3 pretty accurate figures that share the basic engineering, so I'm excited, and like I feel confident that Blurr will happen even though he's not announced just cause of their tendencies that I normally would complain about lol

See, that's the problem.

I'm 24 and grew up with the show airing on Channel 44 here in California back when it was UPN instead of CW.

My problem is that with how it costs literally the same as a Masterpiece, it doesn't come with at least some swappable faces with other expressions. It also seems alright for the price until there is a lack of more detail.

I can live with Optimus Primes expressionless face, but not Primals.

>I can live with Optimus Primes expressionless face, but not Primals.

I'd agree, but Optimal Optimus was more stoic as the episodes had taken a more serious approach by then. If he wasn't looking stoic and somewhat somber, he was maybe yelling orders or gritting his teeth. So the lack of expressions doesn't bother me much. Besides, Beast Gorira's head is just SO damn good. IT has this perfect, heroic look that both feels properly "Optimus", while also unique so it doesn't feel like a Prime head, but Primal.
>>
>>6334928

The only head accessory I think was a must was a Megatron head from Beast Wars. For its price I expected some more shit, but given how well its painted I think the budget went there.
>>
>>6334083

For once I'm pissed that MMC doesn't want to take the easy way out, it would be such a straightforward remold and I vastly prefer Spotlight Blurr's bulkier design to this curvaceous twink.
>>
Any reviews up for the new PE Leonidas?
>>
>>6334932
>For its price I expected some more shit, but given how well its painted I think the budget went there.

That, and I think even given how pricy 3P figures can be,a lot of fans forget how expensive high end toys really are. I got BG the day after SoCDaizyujin/MMPR Megazord arrived, and that cost about $100 more, with much less articulation(albeit it had a combining gimmick), and a more limited range of play value. Its in the same price range as Macross figures and stil cheaper than Hot toys figures which I have also bought recently. All things considered, BG is a fantastic value.
>>
>>6336156
>a lot of fans forget how expensive high end toys really are

I think a problem with that is a lot of other high end toys are basically statues or made of shit materials that you CAN'T play with. A lot of the SOC stuff for example, is diecast. Which as we all know, is a terrible thing to make a toy with. You can't PLAY with it, because the diecast will destroy itself (and any plastic it's against). So it's pretty much a statue at that point, you pose it maybe once, and then stick it on a shelf.

The 3P stuff though, a lot of people expect to play with.
>>
>>6336199
True, though ultimately I still think Gorira is a fantastic value for what he is. His engineering is damn near on par with Sentinel, who charge way more for their products, and feel more fragile. Perfect Effect has a wavering reputation, for high quality engineering but poor QC, but this one definitely takes after the former. It makes me want to buy more of their figures ASAP.

Wish Takara would run an official Classics scale MP series parallel to the larger one.

Yeah I'd never buy a KO again without waiting for in-hand feedback, got burned by that downsized Optimal Optimus KO recently. I've heard MP-10v is pretty good though.

Inferno and Soundwave alone would be amazing.
>>
>>6338043

I own an MP10v, it had one issue. The inside of the diecast chest windows was a bit malformed, and it gouged into the chrome truck bumper as a result. I'm the only person who I've seen comment on this, so I assume I just had a bit of shit QC. Otherwise, he's been solid all around.

Personally I dislike that they added diecast parts, but given I didn't own MP10 and he was like, $55-ish bux, I figured I had little to lose comparatively VS buying a $150 figure.

Oh, and I sanded down the gouging piece once I realized-Albeit too late-it would gouge into the truck bumper. It's now fine.

lol no. UW is just CW with better paint and QC but it doesn't magically make that line good for anything besides something to fiddle with and then give to a kid. CW/UW was a fun line but it was no more satisfying than a bag of potato chips compared to a steak dinner.
>MP Soundwave
this is 100% correct
>MP Shockwave
it depends on if you want a good solid figure or G1 toon accuracy. For the former, 3rd party is probably gonna scratch that itch better. For the latter, MP Shockwave nails it but he's meh at best. He looks good but overall looks kind of bland because of the lack of paint and the fact that Takara actually went with fucking stickers for the insignias. He also just feels a bit hollow and not worth the asking price.
>MP Ironhide/Ratchet
couldn't say. Never owned one, 3rd party or MP
>MP Megatron
kinda the same as Shockwave from what I hear, though to a lesser degree. MP nails the toon look but I've been hear quite a few fragility horror stories and he just doesn't clean up super well. Alt mode is loaded with distracting panel lines and in bot mode, his back is an absolute mess compared to some 3rd party offerings. 3rd party also offers a much nicer paint job with full on silver instead of that dull metallic gray. 3rd party offerings also seem to have a much better toy feeling to them, whereas MP Megs looks far too fiddly for my liking and seems more like an improved repeat of the original MP where you transform it once just to do it and then you put him back in bot mode, never to want to transform it again. Not to mention, Weijing has this guy on the way who looks like he beats the MP hard. I'm really glad I waited because it gives me the toon aesthetic I want but with a super clean alt and bot mode (also hinting at a much more intuitive transformation), smaller price tag, and more well rounded proportions.

You're retarded. If the design gets in the way of function, the design needs to be changed.

Apollyon is shit, yes. But Despotron is infinitely superior to MP-36; no paint rubbing, looks clean from all angles, better construction, actual silver paint instead of grey...I could go on.

Which should I go for? I'm buying it part for me, part for my 4 year old son, who's into Optimus via Bay clips on youtube. It will probably be played with & transformed alot. I really can't decide. What would you go for or is there a 3rd option?

I wouldnt really recommend any of them for a 4yo son, consider one of the lower cost official toys made for preschoolers instead of an adult collectible.
>>

For a 4 year old, really neither, but if you had to I'd go with the Classics KO. a 4 year old would probably be more satisfied with a cybertron or Animated Optimus. Reallythere's no movie Optimus that's both decently movie accurate and simple and satisfyingly articulated.

Accurate to what, exactly? G1? IDW? They look like representations of the characters, sure, but so do a lot of 3rd party figures. Otherwise, they don't really look "accurate" to anything.

>the transformations aren't needlessly complex
A. You can't lump every single 3rd party company in together with transformation complexity. Some over complicate things and some are no more complicated than shit like Generations Springer.
B. They're also the same fucking transformation scheme copy-pasted across damn near every mold

>combiners are more stable than 3P

Feral Rex, Hades, and Poseidon beg to differ. Some are shit, yes, but again, lumping all of them in together is ignorant as fuck as each company does things differently. Plus, even in 3rd party threads, bad combiners do tend to get shit on for being shit.

I'm holding off on these guys until I at least see the whole team in plastic. I'm assuming they'll package a little preview book or something with Swindle/Brawl but we'll just have to wait and see. As someone who only owns the CW Combaticons I still think the UT ones look like a massive improvement.

On a side note; it's cool that they come with little diorama/stand pieces. That's a very nice touch.

I'll take the bait.

I'm the guy who was bitching off the bat in the last thread about Gravity Builder - he has issues, but for what he is, he's still pretty fuckin' amazing. The amount of unpegged arm-kibble in robot modes is the only real issue I have, combined mode is a solid 8/10 and vehicle modes are 10/10. Robot modes vary wildly, all of them have pretty great arms (worst is Bonecrusher with his shovel-attachments, but that's it), some have legs that won't bend very well without adjusting some flaps on them. Still better than anything else on the market by a fat margin, unless you want G1 iterations, in which case Toyworld is right scratching that itch.

Does that tiny detail matter when they already fucked up the rest of the design? wheels on shoulders instead of waist, 6 wheels instead of 4 and smokestacks in the front.

Also it may be useless if it doesn't combine with God bomber, we don't know if God bomber clips into the hollow bits of superginrai back, the PE Cab legs might block it.

I think it's more useless when you consider that you COULD buy Tak's PMP and this addon and Godbomber.

Or you could just wait and buy one of the 3P PMP's in the pipeline and instead of getting a $45 figure sold at a $90 price point with a $45 figure's engineering, you could get a, what, $150 figure made with $150's tier of engineering.

I want to love it, but I merely like it. It strikes me as being a little overly busy with the alt mode being a "well, that's good enough" affair.

For those that have the mold, are there any QC issues to be wary of? I'm considering grabbing it. If the build quality is excellent I'll grab one.
>>
>>6340573

He was made to order, so any site that has him in stock ordered more than they took in preorders. There probably won't be a second run.

>>6340728

I didn't run into any Q/C at all. Very well tolerances and great feeling joints. The only things that can catch during transformation are the feet when tabbing into the leg to make a cab and the wheel wells folding into the torso and back.

My biggest complaints are as follows. The elbows should have been double jointed and are slightly awkward where they bend because of it. The cab parts on the arm has their rail pin is too visible in robot mode, and the toes needed a lot more tilt upwards for better dynamic walking poses since the rest of the figure lends itself so well to it.

QC issues to be concerned about:

Leg-tab might show up with a stress mark on it.

The hip-pipes that hold the gas canisters can have undue stress applied to them when posing the legs certain ways, watch out for it unless you like stress marks in the middle of it.

That's it, really. Pretty minor stuff overall! That I've seen, anywho.
